Brynberian Pollinator Party - how it began

  • In 2019, the open space outside Brynberian's recently refurbished community centre was full of builders' rubble. What had once been a primary school with its own vegetable garden looked very sad!
Seeing an opportunity, some local people who were keen on nature restoration got together and decided to develop a community garden there. Encouraged by two of their members who were professional gardeners, they applied for a few grants and were lucky enough to get financial support.
Commercial growers specialising in pollinator-friendly, chemical-free flowers and shrubs also helped. It was a long process and people came and went, but this video focusses on the 2022 gardening team's wish to celebrate the help they'd received by throwing a party for the growers, the local community and the public at large.
But then we couldn't decide what to call it. Some of the more obvious names sounded long, pompous and boring. It was Jill Taylor who came up with a name we all liked. And so the Pollinator Party was born.
