Not halfway through, I, as a writer, am impressed: good dialogue, great plot, believable acting, fine diredction--the whole nine yards for a good story.

Barbara Stanwyck is magnificent-you feel sympathy and chills at her performance, and both are earned. Van Heflin is solid, as is Kirk Douglas. Lizabeth Scott gives a warmth to Toni that makes you agree with Heflin-she deserves one good break. Thanks for uploading this haunting, tragic noir.

I cannot believe that, Ms. Barbara Stanwyck never won a Oscar for her performance, That's a Shame. Kirk Douglas, Became a Star thereafter, I believe he lived to be 103 or 104 years old, God Blessed Him. Van Heflan, and Lizabeth Scott did extraordinary job. What a Class act Film, Rip to All🙏

Yes . I wouldn't say it's a shame but yes it was really sad. And curiously she finished working in Tv series. ( fortunately coz i knew her as Victoria Barkley on Big Calley 😊) At least they gave an honorific Oscar to her career. The same happened to Kirk. Many times nominated but only an honorific one. Same story with Peter O'Toole or Lauren Bacall... Others like Robert Mitchum not even an honorific one. World is unfair...

The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers was the film debut of the legendary Kirk Douglas, he was signed for this role by producer Hal Wallis after Lauren Bacall suggested him for it. Kirk and Bacall were friends since both were struggling actors on Broadway, and Lauren had since become a huge star and Humphrey Bogart's wife and used her clout to help Kirk Douglas get his breakout role. After this movie, he would play opposite Robert Mitchum in Out Of The Past, which would really solidify both him and Mitchum as bona fide Hollywood A-Listers.
As for Barbara Stanwyck, she does absolutely amazing as the femme fatale here, and proves she's perfect for these roles as she did in Double Indemnity, where she set the bar for all future femme fatales in cinema. Before the likes of Kathleen Turner in Body Heat, Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, or Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, there was Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity. Barbara really was one of the greatest actresses and women of her era, or any era for that matter. ❤
Lizabeth Scott is an underrated actress that needs to be remembered more nowadays. To get another sample of her talent, I recommend Desert Fury (1947), where she plays the lead in a grandiose performance alongside Burt Lancaster in an underrated film noir(shot in Technicolor, ironically). Lizabeth was an exceptional actress/woman.
Van Heflin, always the consummate professional, you already know the movie will be better with Van in it. Even in supporting roles like his role in Shane (1953), he brings so much extra to the film. If you haven't seen his tour de force performance in the original 3-10 To Yuma alongside Glenn Ford, I recommend it highly.
This was directed by Lewis Milestone, who made the original All Quiet On The Western Front, Of Mice And Men, Pork Chop Hill and many more. Also written by Robert Rossen, who would later direct one of my personal Top 10 movies of all time, The Hustler (1961).
The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers is a classic. Thanks again, Cult Cinema Classics!

A tail of the eternal triangle. What a cast! Babs Stanwyk, Van Heflin, Kirk Dooglas (and the loverly Liz Scott). Power, realestate, love (or the lack of it) is only the surface covering for some dark secret about to be exposed with consequences for all. Film noir even! As I said before: the eternal 🔺triangle never rings true. Santa Ana save us! Gotta watch this one!

Power, realestate, love (oops already covered that) ... very entertaining with fantastic character development. Had me rooting for all 4 main characters, but not all lived happily ever after. Once the big lie is exposed, you wonder how it will end. Watch this ⭐⭐⭐⭐gem and find out. Shock ending will knock your wig or toupee off! WOO!

Here he is very unrealistic portraying a soft subdued man. He only plays the part but his eyes show a total indifference to the turmoils of his character. He doesn't feel the way his character feels bc he cannot. He is a predatory tiger at heart.

I am sorry u had to go through that. Sometimes one sentence we hear or read can take away our peace of mind for a while. But to read a sick mind spreading out on pages long that stays in our minds longer. This is why we need to stay away from bad people, bad books, videos aso. One must make the best of our lives and investing time, feelings, friendship, or anything else below our dignity eats away our serenity. We were not made to digest deviousness. Now if one is a detective and must investigate crimes that is serving a nobler purpose. This is called sacrifice, not wasting away one's resources.

_Oi, Cida Maria!

The black and white version was better. This colorize version is hard to watch.
