I was playing the other day and came across a gank with all of them using this weapon. You get hit with one attack and it was like, "welcome to the blender".
I fought the same 3 dudes lmao. Im making a vid for it cuz the invasion was 25 mins haha
Once as a dark summon I managed to get my host, his sun bro and an invader to all cosplay as abyss watchers. We would wait for invaders and they would either cosplay as well and join us or be blended. We died a lot tho, friendly fire killed us off quickly

This weapon is deceptively good in duels for two reasons. 1: It has a huge variety of combos, and 2: because most people who use this weapon are noobs who mindlessly mash L1, you can really catch a lot of people off guard by mixing up your timing, it's like reverse parry bait.
Most people would never expect an Abyss Watcher cosplayer to actually be good at PVP.
Why not double down and pretend to be a noob for the first half of the fight

Oh my god. I just parried my first FGS WA during a 3v1 like 2 minutes ago and I felt so achieved
My fav parry was an accidental double parry in a 2v3 then me and the other invader riposted at about the same time off it. I didn't plan on it being a double but sometimes the stars aline xd

It's not a WA, it's the regular L2.
You can't really parry a parry.
This thing can parry with a greatshield, immediate S+ for making those things unstoppable to all but backstab fishing

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Farron Greatsword. The moveset is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the L1 button, most of the potential of this weapon will go over a typical player's head. There’s also the Abyss Watchers' nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their bossfight- their personal philosophy draws heavily from Artorias the Abyss Watcher, for instance. The Farron Greatsword users understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of this weapon, to realise that it's not just another boss weapon- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence, people who dislike the Farron Greatsword truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the lore behind the gesture "Legion Etiquette", which itself is a cryptic reference to something Miyazaki ripped off from Beserk. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Hidetaka Miyazaki's genius PvP mechanics unfold themselves on their screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes, by the way, I DO have an Artorias the Abyss Watcher tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only - and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I absolutely love this weapon. I’m only sad because of the reputation it gets as a gankers weapon. Also quick 2 tips: you can use the flip attack if you pivot towards their shield (your right) while you’re in the air. There is a sweet spot that bypasses parries when done correctly. This combos into another L1. And you can also roll catch any critical attack most of the time with the L1 as they get up( imagine pushing up off from your knees to imagine the timing )

I know it's a meme weapon, but it's one of my faves. It's really good for invasions and punishing noobs. Just not too great when you start running into people that know how to parry the L1.

Rax G it has amazing CC, doesn’t take FP, and depending on bosses, you can avoid attacks due to lowered hitbox such as Dragon Slayer knight
That's why you don't spam the weapon art with it, people feel overpowered with this weapon and still spam not realizing they can get parried and backstabbed
Same thing goes for Elfrides G Scythe, but thats a late game weapon...
Honestly this weapon is great in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, the fact that people really try to parry it can be played in your favor, this weapon is spin to win in PvE but takes some real strategy to master in PvP, long story short, spin to win on PvE and big brain plays on PvP
Such an artistically dynamic animation, it's beautiful to see and satisfying to use. I love how different it allows you to play as well as the new utility's it brings to your game experience! Definitely my favorite : )
I’ve always loved great sword and ultras. I remember getting that weapon for the first time and just falling in love. It’s very unique and I absolutely loved using it. Before it became a meme.

My favourite thing tpo do in dark souls is in duels casually start off with a different dex weapon then out of nowhere swap out too farron greatsword and just spin too win...it just works
Glad to see this weapon get some love - no-skill ganks use the wide sweeping arc and large amount of hitstun, but if you use the mix-ups it can be a fearsome weapon.

I dont spam L1 tho I love combining this weapon with heavys, light attacks, sometimes L1 to close gaps or if the oppurtinity hits and I also love how u can combine the L1 with heavys and R1. I just think its a versatile weapon tbh and ofc I rock full abyss watcher set x)
Wow I come to look this video up and see that I’m rocking the Lapp armor and FG as well
The ending of the L1 animation makes it super easy to backstab. Bait/space the L1 and just run up to them during the end of the animation and it's pretty much free. With a shield just wait until the L1 connects then R1.
Trust me Artorias Greatsword opens up for backstabs more in Dark Souls 3. The somersault can be backstabbed even when your all the way in the air and its a slow animation.
Very little between hyper armor frames though. So unless you time it perfectly (in which case the idiot using the FGS doesn't know how to use it) you will just attack while the second L1 enters the hyper armor frames. The FGS hyper armor is broken, and starts up before there are any actual hit frames. Its insane

It's tough to tell which weapon is good since Chase rarely ever loses with any weapon. Even killing people with the soldering iron. Killing people that have greatswords while he fights with the world's biggest iron.

Something I didn't realize until I saw it in a video ranking UGS in DS3 was that you could run a greatshield with Weapon Skill so you can do a block-to-parry without two-handing the Farron Greatsword.
Sounds good but does it uses the dagger to parry? Its frames are horrible

With some practice it becomes quite consistent, so yeah. It is already annoying as f*** to fight a tryhard that uses it, so a whole gank squad using it is like warg cancer... even more if they know the "infinite" estus glitch.

@@DarkReaper1053 using the weapon art swap glitch you can use(as long as you have FP i think) the parting flame estus replenishment ability without killing anything.
In my opinion i wouldnt care if ganks use the estus cancel. They already have teammates there to cover them when they heal anyways. This just benefits lone invaders.
If you didn’t know, it had a 3 set combo. And depending on which place you are in depending on how many times you swung in the moment, you’ll do one of the moves. So say you did 2 normal swings then skill, you’ll do the twirl slam. One hit will bring the 2nd sweep chain and so forth.

The most surreal thing about the farron greatsword is when you get parried out of your specials, particularly the third one with the flip. You’d expect to get tossed back a bit, but you just stop moving and stand there like “Eguegh?”
Fun fact: this meme of an weapon is almost unstoppable in Havel's armor and with the wolf's ring equiped, learned the hard way ._.
The ethereal oak shield I believe (millwood set). I may be wrong it's been a while. Is OP as hell in junction with this sword you get a med sized shield that's essentially a parrying dagger

Funnily enough the L1s on RKPUGS have a similar effect to Farrons where different stages of them can be combod out of the R1s
I don't do PvP, but this is one of my favorite weapons, yeah it's weapon art is crazy and probably a deserves its meme status. Mostly because when I got Dark Souls 3 I just came off of Bloodborne and the Abyss Watchers fight reminded me of Bloodborne so much with it crazy pacing, I fell in love with both the armor and weapon.
I had never even seen and didn't know that two R1's then an L1 led into that badass jump attack, awesome vid bro!
That's the 3rd L1 in the combo. All of its R1s and L1s keep the combo going. You can even R1, L1 for the second spin in the combo, then R1 or L1 flip

Glad you are keeping content going on this game. This game doesn’t get enough love but it’s my favorite in the series. One is great and two had a couple cool mechanics(buffing boss weapons) but three is one of my favorite games of all time
I loved the Weaponholding skill from DS2. The Skullfist and the Champion Aid for Barefist power.
Alexander I also like that you could parry with heavy weapons. Hard to pull off but so satisfying

Actually made a montage using this weapons parry dagger, its actually a good weapon to bait running attacks for easy parrys.

I main the FGs and if you didn’t know the L1 is multidirectional if you move the stick fast enough. It’s great for mix ups by baiting someone by running side to side or back and quickly L1 right at them. People never see it coming. Plus no one expects the parry
I think the farron greatsword's move sets are designed to hunt monsters rather than normal humans, the L1 moves look like they were designed to cut the legs of the monsters and the rolling L1 with the dagger hits was to clear out the attacking area for the greatsword cos maybe the monster they were facing had tendrils or maybe extra limbs so they can have better vivsion(not too sure about this but I think it make sense).
I also notice that the spinning vertical attack is great to hit the heads of tall enemies and is especially useful against bosses

Heck yes! I love this weapon! Always fun to use in PvE, and even though it’s a bit too slow and predictable for PvP I still think it’s viable with enough practice.
It slots in easily to any quality build or dex hybrid build. It does get an S in dex scaling when fully upgraded so there is really no reason not to try it at least once. The main utiliy of the weapon is being able to mix up L1,R1 or R1, L1 with consistent damage output an gauranteed two hit combo it can be good. Also no one expects you to use the second R2 attack so unlock your camera and surprise them with a fully charged R2 (that is if you don't get backstabbed first).
I love the Farron Greatsword, my favorite next to the Lothric Greatsword
Have you thought about making it a riposte weapon for weapon swaps? You could roll catch with L1 pretty effectively after successful riposte if opponent doesn't die.

I use the farron greatsword with the Exile chestpiece and some other less heavy armor, or i cosplay the Abyss watchers, love it :P
This is all I use in duels. Catches alot of people off guard

Once you defeat a boss in the ashes of ariandel dlc named the champion gravetender, or you complete the npc lapps questlinge, you get the champions bone that you burn at the firelink bonfire that gives you access to the undead arena.
the best thing about this sword is it can easily punish enemy failed attacks. The initial lunge with the left bumper helps reaching in from a safe position (hence the enemy's failed attack) and using the dagger to set up some punishment with a heavy hitting weapon. Go for 2 hits and then disengage, the third hit always misses, and don't be the first to strike if you can help it. Farron greatsword made me gold
*edit* the weapon is best paired with high poise/defense armor to make inevitable trade hits work in your favor, hit the gym and work on that VIT bro. havel's ring and ring of favor help a lot
*extra edit* the church guardian shiv is the weapon to surpass the metal gear when it comes to finishing off people with like 1 health. It's a quickly thrown, fast traveling, enemy seeking projectile that is only limited by FP capacity and does enough damage to last hit a guy who's on the last sliver of health and refuses to stop rolling around and you aint got time for that bullshit

If someone spams L1, wait until they do the jumping attack. 9/10 you will parry if you wait until you get hit the second time.
I use this for pvp sometimes, as someone who I'd say properly uses the weapon the jump attack is a death wish, not just that there is a 3 second gap between swings and backstabs are someone's end

I noticed you didn't mention the rolling l1 fast 2 hit counter..i was wondering why...i find it useful when the monsters are chasing you down but i don't play multi player so I'm not sure if it's good in that respect..what's your thoughts on it...plus i imagine you don't have a allot of players trying to roll catch you at least i haven't seen any in your videos

How do you estus cancel?
While you back is to the opponent and your pov is looking at your characters front, lock on to the enemy. This wil turn your character around..now, use estus during/to interupt that turn around animation and pull your character back to how he was facing before(back to enemy unlocked with pov looking at your characters front); is the jist of it. It takes advantage of the frame rates used when locking on when ur back is turned and defaults item usage to said frame rates when done right.. Look up estus canceling on yt. It'll be explained alot better =/
This can be done with just about any consumable as well.
Oh what makes this animation cancel really insane is like i said earlier it applies to just about any consumables, even divine blessing. So yea... that's pretty awesome

When you use L1 the dagger does hit for damage but it’s not much

Its a fun weapon in pve, in pvp its not the best unless you and your buddies are doing a blender cosplay
4:50 not to be smug, but to clarify, the weapon does not stun long enough on *running* l1's to combo
there were so many moments in this vid where you could've finished the fight with the 3rd L1. The entire Farron greatsword works in 3 hit combos. basically you can mixup L1s and R1s and you will get the according attack to the position of the chain. So basically you can go L1, R1, L1 and will get the same flip swing as in L1, L1, L1 or R1, R1, L1. Or you can get the first two L1s and finish it of with an R1 to throw your enemy off.
You forgot that it has a special rolling attack with L1 ! :) but otherwise good stuff as always

It seems if you position yourself behind your target then you can't parry the normal timing on the farron greatsword. I met a 2 man group and the host would always try to put his attack to land behind me. Also if you walk back while they are jumping you can get around that.
I also had no idea that two R1s connect into the all-out L1

The l1 unlocked will let you immediately backstep torwads the opponent and resets your combo so you can ninja dance to your enemies in style.
Just don't forget to DA, Lord don't forget. It's like getting slapped out of a breakdance.
Also, r1 into l1 is a combo loop, so long as you have stamina you can repeat it.

Does the Armor of Thorns add extra damage? I've been thinking that maybe weapons that use your body to stagger the enemy may be able to utilize AoT if not just for a little bit of damage. Like Artorias GS, Maybe Farron GS, Oni&Uba.
Yes it does, when you roll next to a player and your armor touches them, it causes slight damage. Very popular armor set.
Maybe a torch showcase would be funny :D
