    Customer service can always be improved but we are not as good as others at putting on a show. One thing you will get is a real and genuine response to any situation.

    • @LizNeptune
      @LizNeptune  4 роки тому +5

      I don't think that's a fair response. No need to put on a show but you should be friendly and approachable when you are serving people food and so that they will come back to your business. I don't want a stranger who is mad at me handling my food. No one wants to go eat at a restaurant where the staff acts as though you are a burden. We're giving you our money, have a baseline of kindness.

    Hi Liz. Thanks so much for doing this video. I can't wait to get there. What's up with those dogs?LOL How about the buses? Do they run pretty regularly? Is there an abundance of organics on the Island? I don't go out to eat much anymore, prefer to do my own cooking. Occasionally I will go out to eat. Thanks again Liz.

    • @LizNeptune
      @LizNeptune  7 років тому +3

      Lol it sounds vicious but they were playing... I would say the buses run "regularly" depending on where you are. I've heard many stories about waiting for a bus that never comes (like in the country or in the night like 9 or 10). Fortunately I'm on the south coast aka a very commercial part of the island so there is a lot of public transportation. You'll have a lot of opportunity to get food and veggies to cook for yourself! However whether it's organic or not, I'm not sure. It's not like in the states where things are labeled and certified. I see things marked as "imported" but not organic. Who knows where that sh*t comes from?! I'm also almost certain Barbados has worked out a deal with the devil um.. I mean Monsanto, the world's biggest GMO seed provider.

      I was able to find a job quickly because a friend hooked me up. There are a lot of foreigners working under the table in Barbados, I don't think it would be hard. Now whether the pay is a livable wage, that's a different story... Not sure about the rent, other places, but where I was staying was very reasonable for a 3 bedroom and large yard. But the further north you go and if you live in parishes like St. Philip, At. John, St. Andrew or St. Jospeh - in the country - you're lucky if you've only been waiting an hour for a bus.

Do you know of/ could recomend any home stay possibilities? Loved ur video. U hit it spit on . The customer service I think comes from the younger folks employed n don't like their jobs or feel they rnt getting paid enuff , always looking like " I shud b home " not looking for a living n these ppl bothering me. But bajans r generally very friendly ppl chk Q limes n see wen d guy ask wat visitors like mostly abt b'dos they reply the ppl first , even before the sun, sea n sand now. So it's the minority who behaved like that n mostly the younger folks. We need to work on them cuz we bajans can get that treatment to not only tourist.

      yes it is predominantly black/african. No there is not a lot of racism, at least not on the surface, or in your face. I did notice there is some segregation though when it comes to white bajans who have money vs everyone else. Most people don't seem to talk about race at all tho, in my experiences. Definitely not as much as in the states, not sure about SA.

    Hi Liz. I think you've done a great job! You've only just scratched the surface though.
    I hope you will have and take the opportunity to build on your very good initial work by doing an analysis of Barbadians' work ethic, for example. This is linked to the poor service ethic that you've experienced.
    A proper analysis could involve interviews with Barbadian trade unionists, employers, and, of course, some of the "offending" workers.
    It would also be worth your while to visit the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies and speak to some of the academics there about how the island's slavery past is interpreted, 'negotiated' and to some extent perpetuated by the trade unionists, politicians, religious clerics, business people and other entities...
    Sounds like a bit too much?

    Problem is that the island has changed Big Time,reason being thanks to my blacks brothers in America with their rap and hiphop music. which not only Barbados but has influenced nearly the whole world,with gangster music and black women like Beyonce shaking her ass off half naked(a lot to be said for our black women and a bad influence) the younger generation has NO chance,the amount of killing that's goes on out there and GUN crime is unbelievable the crime rate is well high,the tourist industry is the main industry so no one shows the crap that happens in the ghetto ( poor areas) however in saying this if you have loads of money you can live a good normal life in high society areas, as these places are highly protected ( police will be always on your side as long as you have loads of money) all in all its a shame that Barbados is now like mini New York,money rules over there so for a good life over there that's what you will need,there are some lovely people living there still but they are all old school, its one of the most Beautiful islands in the whole world where we live trust me on this, but its way to small to be so full of corruption and this is how it is. Most if the younger generation want to be so called gangster's, so you might want to stay off the block's if you get where I'm coming from and everything is extortionate so unfortunately this is how it is. Peace.

    Hey Liz..bang on description of my fav island ever. Yup service is usually great or terrible with little standards to balance it out, but saying that, I have never been to a Caribbean island that is as polite and proper as BDS. Maybe it's British occupancy (and it's influence still) brought an old world English attitude that actually blends well with the Island smoothness. The majority of populated areas are very safe to walk at night but like anywhere, best to walk smart (couples/groups) and think safe. There are so many new places since you posted this review like Nikki Beach Club in Speighstown which is a chic daytime lunch, chill mixed with beachfront. New restaurants are popping up every year with Salt Cafe on Rockley (Accra) beach being a personal fav as the chef and owner was a longtime big hotel chef and decided to move to her own small and intimate place creating amazing unique dishes. I am returning for my 6th or 7th visit in 2019 and am excited to see what changes have happened to the island since my last trip. Keep up the great reviews and keep digging deeper.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by their customer service and island time mentality. I went to a restaurant and sat there for 15 minutes, before my order was taken, than after waiting 30 minutes for my food, I lost my patience and left. In another bar, I waited 45 minutes for a hamburger. No one should EVER have to wait THAT long at a restaurant. Than in other places they were rushing us to finish our meal, to make room for other customers, and they seemed to get annoyed if you only ordered one thing. Locals not wanting to give you your change is also an issue. We practically had to BEG for it and in Oistins us and another couple waited 30 minutes for our change, and at Carlisle Beach, we were told we have to drink our beers on the beach, because the restaurant is only for people who order food, even though the place was completely empty. And at the same beach, I stood at a bar for 10 minutes wanting to order a drink, being completely ignored by the waitress, before I finally got fed up and left. To be honest, these experiences ruined the whole island for me, as this behavior came across as extremely rude to me. I also didn't like that people were asking for money for everything and were paranoid about having their picture or video taken, even if they were just in the background. I also agree about the island being ridiculously expensive. It's the most expensive place I've ever been. Maybe because of its status as a British commonwealth. I didn't have an experience like you had with the bank. One lady even reopened a store for us after it closed. I agree 100% with your LOVES, but the island also has it's downside. But I am glad people are starting to wake up and realize that customer service on the island is something that needs to be improved. I get the whole island time mentality, but I agree that if they want to build a strong tourist economy, they need to dump certain aspects of their lifestyle and adjust themselves to cater to the needs of tourists, or that part of the island's economy will collapse.

    • @LizNeptune
      @LizNeptune  7 років тому +2

      I'm sorry it was ruined for you, but it's understandable. There are some people that give good customer service, but maybe you didn't get a chance to explore all that much. Sometimes the customer service, or slow moving service gets excessive beyond what is acceptable... they know it though. And I think it will get better. Someone seeing your comment might help people be more patient and attentive next time they go to work.. thanks for watching!!

    • @briantravelman
      @briantravelman 7 років тому +3

      I had some good customer service, but it was rare. And that's the thing, it got to the point that it just became unacceptable. Hopefully it will, but the last time I posted negative comments about the islanders, I was immediately attacked by both locals and tourists who LOVE the island and accused me of making this stuff up. But other tourists I talked to on the island felt the same way I did. But judging by the comments here, I guess people are starting to realize these aren't isolated incidents.

      So sorry you had a bad experience on your vacation. We visit Barbados about once a year and have not had any negative experiences. Last year, I became impatient waiting to be seated in one of the hotel restaurants and decided to leave as I was quite hungry, the concierge asked us what happened as we were leaving, we explained about the long wait, and he immediately returned with us to the restaurant to speak with the manager. You know, There was a perfectly good example for the wait, except they did not inform us. The restaurant provides a personalized service to each customer and the food is freshly prepared. Sometimes there is a reason for the slow service. One, It's not McDonald's and two sometimes tourist need to check their attitude. I've seen tourist behave in ways in the Caribbean that they do not do in Europe. I have been appalled by some of the tourist attidudes especially when they treat service people as though they are less than.

We really must do a better job of actually serving customers in Barbados. Remind fast-food joints that it's actually fast food they're serving. No pep in their step whatsoever. I should not have to wait 45 minutes for a meal in a fast-food restaurant. I let them have an earful on social media when l returned home.

    I'm taking my whole family to Barbados (6 people) for the first time and my wife is going to flip out about the unfriendly service. One of our friend have warn us about it but hearing it from you sure make it true. But we been to many Caribbean islands, how bad can it be. 😬😬😬

      lmao! yes well... just tell her to remain calm and breathe lol It's true, but hey, Barbados has loads of redeeming qualities, the food you get being one of them lol. Take it easy and enjoy!

      I know how you feel. This was the first place I experienced such disrespectful customer service, and it ruined the whole island for me. I was NOT prepared for it at all, as I had read only positive things about the islanders. Also, be used to people asking for money for EVERYTHING, or yelling at you for taking "their picture" even if they are just in the background. And be prepared for people not wanting to give you your change. Hopefully the ENTIRE Caribbean isn't like that.

      I agree. The food was the BEST I've had ANYWHERE and is worth the 45 minute wait. LOL Be sure to check out the Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night. I DO hope you venture beyond the tourist areas of the south and check out the "Other Barbados".

      @@briantravelman I like who you title it as the "other Barbados", yes there ain't many club there but the local bars open at different times for events. Sometime the bar close early like 10/12pm.

      To be honest, you just need to understand Bajan people. The accent makes Bajan people sound unfriendly. And then there is sort of an impatience to Bajan people as well. But underneath, Bajan people are extremely sweet! Pay one little compliment to someone who may be having a bad day, or who is stressed out, and you'll see their mood change instantly! To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if workers are treated poorly by their bosses. Bajans love to nitpick at every little thing! So customer service workers, may be stressed out, but it may have nothing to do with you. Believe me. I am Bajan born and raised.
      If you go in there already thinking that everyone is going to be rude, and you behave accordingly, you will have a terrible time.
      Bajan people have amazing hearts, but the outward disposition belies that.

    Great video x
    The banks queues can be quite long...
    The longer the trip you get into the laid back style. However if you're there for 1 week then it will be difficult to adjust especially if your from a big city.
    I'm going in February 2020

    This video was too funny. Especially when the dogs started to fight. I haven't been in so many years but I miss it terribly. I could eat flying fish and drink sorrel every single day! I loved CropOver. I had the best time. I'm looking to go in April for the reggae festival with Buju.

    Girl the Bank is 8-3 Mondays to Thursdays and 8-5 on Fridays, don't know where you got 3.45 from. What strip do we need? You people always talk about us being laid backed and chilled as though we don't have to work our asses off. You come on holiday and think you know all about us. We also have to work pay mortgages, bills, car notes and all the rest. So for us life is more than St Lawrence Gap, dollar vans, Bliss party, Cropover and things like that. How you expect to get things cheaper than US when we have to import things? Customer Service needs to be improved but American lack basic good manners, it always has to be their way, don't talk about the children, some of the most rude and the parents don't seem to see anything wrong with it.
    We are only smaller but we have to go through the daily grind of life like people in bigger countries do.

      @LizNeptune  6 років тому +1

      lmaooo damn... calm down... Yes, the bank has listed hours but in my experience they stopped letting people in 15 minutes before they close which is nonsense... I stayed there for 5 months and had a job, would you consider that a "holiday" ?? I didn't say you NEED a strip, pretty sure i just said you didn't have one... so what? I still spent thousands of dollars to go.. I love barbados, don't get so damn triggered. It's a critique... I'm sure if you came to NYC you might have some critiques about the noise, dirtiness, etc.. no big deal.. Customer Service needs to be improved and that's said by MOST travelers to bim including canadians and europeans so don't try and weasel out of that. Barbados isn't perfect, no country is... And yes Barbados is expensive as hell and we both know that it needs to find a way to export more items and stop importing American garbage, utilize it's natural resources, land and ability to grow an assortment of fruits and vegetables. This is a hot issue in barbados right now.. prices are going up and the people are struggling.. don't get mad at me, im just a messenger to other "tourists on holiday" lol thanks for watching tho!!
