I should have been there by now! The plan was to sell up in the UK and move to Barbados around July this year (I got my citizenship last year). But, COVID hit literally the week my house went on the market!! 😢 But, it’s sold now and should be completed in a few months!! 👍🏽 So, I’m currently looking for a place to buy in St. James and hopefully I’ll be settled in by the end of the year!!

Hi Jamie, for those with the Caricom skills certificate and who may have found a job in Barbados. How does it work in terms of using the certificate and being able to begin work also. Also, any advise in leasing/buying an affordable vehicle, what companies are the best one to do this with?
Hey Melissa, when I moved, even tho I had a skills certificate from Belize I still had to apply for one through the Barbados Accreditation Council. It took about 8 weeks, costs $100 and you’ll need a police report. After you get the certificate, you take it to immigration and they put a stamp in your passport which allows you to be a resident. In terms of getting a car, I don’t know of any leasing company, I’d say check Facebook to buy a car and get financing. Signia and Capita are great financing options. I hope this helps!
@@jamierocke thank you for your response. So would I be able to work on my original skills certificate until I get the one from the Barbados Accreditation Council or do I have to wait the 8 weeks until I get the one from BAC to be able to work?
@@michellecox1838 I thought I’d stay for about 4 months and stayed way longer. I definitely recommend staying on the South coast. Rockley golf course is a fantastic option. Thank you for the information! My husband and I are going to Barbados via the welcome visa this month. Wondering if we want to stay for another year and apply for the welcome visa again, do we need to pay tax? As I know the welcome visa doesn't require tax liability.
You’re welcome! Great question. If you reapply for the welcome stamp and it’s approved you won’t have to pay taxes. If you stay here on a work visa, then I think that’s when the need to pay taxes kick in. Hope this helps!
Not sure where you heard that, but for sure you’d be welcomed. I think Bajans are just always curious about “foreigners” in general. I went for university when I was 19, and I was fine. Good luck 🙂
Hey Shania! There weren’t many… I’d say the cost of living is the biggest challenge; getting around can be challenging if you don’t have your own transportation; the cultural differences can require some acclimation and can be a challenging thing to get used to. Those were the main ones I’d say.
