    One of their most underrated songs from that era.

    Face in the sand imo is another one of those underrated songs, music and lyrics powerful. Also the first time Nicko used a double kicker.

    This is a class song and so underrated. The way it builds and when it kicks in it kicks hard. Bruce sings his balls of and the whole band kill it especially Nicko.

    Nicko is a machine. His calf has to be on fire waiting for that solo break. Adrian shows again again why his solo work is king. He I always improving, using different techniques. This is bout as well as Bruce could sing at this point in his career and he sounds good.

    I absolutely love this one. Again, it's one of the first songs I heard from Maiden so it does hold a special place in my heart. Another song you can tell was driven by Adrian Smith. His solo on this is spot on and the instrumentals are brilliant. I feel that this song is criminally underrated within the Maiden community and is overlooked a lot. The next song is (in my opinion) Maidens most underrated song out of them all. I'm interested to see what you think of it. The next album takes the dark tones to another level. It sounds similar to this album, sonically, but the actual music is very dark. Are you going straight to that album, or are you going to check out Death on the Road (Dance of Death tour live album)? Keep it up Hurm, loving the reactions as always!

      I agree that this one is underrated. Nothing special apart from Nicko's double pedals, but still better than most seem to think. Disagree on the next one, I think Age of innocence is one of the worst songs they have recorded 😏

      For me this one is a good song but it has no special thing about it, and given the fact that it comes directly after one of their best songs ever makes it easily shadowed.
      Age of Innocence is a GREAT song withan angry riff that gets ruined by a strange and unexpectedly happy chorus sound.

    Adrian Smith's songwriting contributions have always been vital to Iron Maiden's success... even w/ some fillers like 'Hooks in you'... 'Sun & steel'... I believe his idea for 'Face in the sand' was combined w/ Harris' idea, and then Bruce Dickinson wrote the lyrics. A lot of Maiden songs come about like that.

    Good song! Except for Bruce's strained vocals. Should have done a few more takes. Other than that, I started to appreciate this one and Age of Innocence lately. They tried something new, unusual for Maiden. Neither of them was played live. This one is the only Maiden song with a double-kick :)

  • @badmotorbreath5206
    @badmotorbreath5206 2 роки тому

    An ok song for me but doesn’t quite fulfil its potential. I believe the song is referring to the well known image of the ‘face in the sand’ on Mars. Some say it represents a symbol or even monument of an ancient civilisation on the planet, possibly our ancestors, long before humans started on Earth. The ancient Martians wiped themselves out probably through war or environmental degradation etc. The song is questioning whether history will repeat itself or will we heed the warnings and learnings from others in the past? Hence the reference to ‘Is the face in the sand, future memory of our tragedy?’ A stretch but sounds like Maiden material to me! 😊

    • @alexandre_am
      @alexandre_am 2 роки тому +1

      The expression "face in the sand" (more commonly head in the sand) is about not acknowledging or recognizing a problem or situation, not dealing with it...which is more coherent to the lyrics

    • @badmotorbreath5206
      @badmotorbreath5206 2 роки тому +1

      We’ll agree to disagree on that. I seem to remember the Mars explanation some time ago possibly from an interview with the band, just don’t recall exactly what or where from. I’ve never heard face in the sand being referred to in the same way as head in the sand. All good though, different song interpretations makes it interesting.
