THINGS TO KNOW:
* VISA? South Africans DO NOT need a Visa to travel to Zanzibar.
On arrival at the Zanzibar airport, Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, you will be asked for a YELLOW FEVER VACCINE CARD and to fill out their TEMPORARY VISA FORM
*YELLOW FEVER VACCINE, for Malaria, and Hepatitis B, from unhygienic foods, can be gotten at your local doctor and it’s best to do so 10 -7 days before your departure day.
* HOTELS in the Video
Bookings for KWANZA, a beach resort, in Zanzibar - Kizimkazi Mkunguni / Mahonda, and NUNGWI DREAMS, a beach hotel, in Zanzibar Mkunguni. (North of the island in Nungwi) were made via www.booking.com. During the reservation, October 2023, there were discounts on offer. SEE BELOW.

*MONEY & Exchange Rate - Zanzibar uses Tanzanian Shilling. Withdraw CASH for excursions, souvenirs, local food, and local transport. ATMs are scarce, about 1- 2 in every major tourist neighborhood.
Otherwise, card machines are in most established stores, restaurants, and hotels.
* Getting around - GPS with Google Maps will not let you down.
Buying a SIM card with a Gigabyte package for the time of your stay goes a long way.
example 1.5G for 1 week.
* The best Tourist ACTIVITIES are found in the North and West of the island. The East and South of the Island have a more relaxed vibe with resorts and beach clubs.
* DRIVING in Zanzibar - Drivers are on the Right side.
Standards ROAD RULES that apply to your country will most likely apply in Zanzibar.
Examples: Always have your original Drivers License & your new License Permit, always drive at the speed limit (look out for scarce road signs), keep your seat belts on, and use your hazards and indicators. TRAFFIC COPS ARE EVERYWHERE. And just like my country, South Africa, there will be cops who want a bribe in cash for silly mistakes.
ACTIVITIES IN VLOG:
* Visiting EDEN ROCK (the hidden beach) - Ask the locals when for the best time to visit. The tide can get so high that it reaches the entry stairs & would not be safe at all to enter.
*The same can apply to THE ROCK restaurant in Pingwe Beach.
* Visiting STONE TOWN - We drove to the Darajani Souk, which has all-day guarded parking at a small fee. For less stress, I would advise a cab to drive to the Souk and to return, there are cabs available at every main point (easy to find). The reason is, that driving in Stone Town is chaotic - with road construction, taxi buses, scooters, roundabouts, and very few traffic lights. From the Souk, we walked through town to get to the beachfront. It’s straightforward with Google Maps with many places to visit for shopping, sightseeing, and eating. The atmosphere is similar to a CBD, so I'd say it’s most suitable for the explorers.
*Visit Zanzibar Coffee House in StoneTown, for amazing Kenyan coffee and cakes. - Lunch and Sundowner Drinks with a beach view at Tembo House Hotel, or for an upscale feel, Park Hyatt Hotel is very classy.
*BARAKA AQUARIUM BUNGALOWS, in Nungwi Zanzibar. A thrilling sightseeing and interactive activity. It's better to carry cash as card machines can go offline. Do bring a towel, lotion, and a change of undergarments for the quick rinse shower after the activity.
*JET SKI'S, these can be found on most beaches in Nungwi. Walk up and ask for the rates and indemnity forms. Better to pay in cash.
*ZANZIBAR HORSE CLUB. Booking for activities was done by walking in on-site and asking for a time slot. Belongings can be held in an office locker room or in guarded parking at the nearby Nungwi Beach central point.
*HOW TO AVOID FOOD POISONING
- Get a Yellow Fever & Hepatitis B shot 10 days before the trip.
- Don't drink or brush your teeth with tap water.
- Use bottled water for food and consumption.
- Always eat freshly cooked/off-the-stove warm food.
- Avoid ripe/ wilted/ soft fruit. Rather eat crunchy/cold/fresh fruit.
- Have Stomach Cramp pain killer pills, in case.
