I'm sorry but this is a flawed way of thinking. It wasn't because Soojin's career was rising, it was because of a wave of victims rising up and accusing school aggressors (everyone knows how big of a problem bullying is in South Korea), and to assume that the actress accused her because Soojin is famous, is the same twisted logic that people who blame victims of sexual abuse use to explain their way of thinking.
dude San E is straught up the most problematic person ever, idk how many times do people gotta cancel him in order for him to completely disappear off of the internet jeez.....
Cuz cancellation is a lie, freaking david dobrik, durte dom, shane, james, chris brown came back from everything and the first ones live on the internet so most supporters knew what they did and accepted them back, for normal artists it's harder cuz the general public isn't on the internet like that to know the bad things they did.
There's so many comments that say "I hate when idols have to apologize for the things they didn't do"....how about the ones that should apologize for what they did wrong?
It would appear the level of ignorance seems to be with regard to their understanding of a culture foreign to them. However, I would also argue that there is a level of ignorance (or intentional blindness) on the critic's part. I rarely see people viewing the situation through the lens of the person who's made the mistake. What was the context and factors at play when they made the mistake? Was the thing they did out of the norm of the society they were in? If not, then should the conversation then be saying that said society's views are bad? However, people don't want to come out and say it like that, out of concern of coming across as being ignorant or racist themselves. Rather, it's far easier and safer to target and pile on an individual celebrity who isn't actually doing anything out-of-the-norms within their community.
I don't understand it either! Don't they watch news and all the celebrity from US getting called for 0.o. Like some Koreans even study abroad at least some of the should know it is wrong other than the artist. Hmmm, Maybe they like it because they get exposure even if it was for negative reason. The fact that they don't apologize to foreigners, but do apologize if they offended Koreans for small thing rise questions too.
@@MA-pb5bc I feel people's ire are misaimed and they are being wilfully blind. Or worse, they are actively being malicious - looking for an excuse to bash idols - and/or are cowards when it comes to actually expressing their values. Notice how these complaints are generally from Westerners; with these not being treated as an issue back in Korea? Or the neighbouring countries where K-pop has a bigger audience/is more mainstream compared to the West? That's because these things are not seen as being "bad" or "unacceptable". As such, the people critics should really be angry at is Korean society as a whole (as well as possibly Asia as a whole), but those critics choose not to; instead going after the easier and safer targets of idols. Personally, at least insofar as CA is concerned, I can see both sides of the coin. Hence, I'm not as annoyed when a Korean idol emulates other cultures (because the society they live in don't see it as a de facto bad thing), compared to if a Western celebrity did. Similarly, I'd be less annoyed or angry if a Western celebrity neglected their parents (or otherwise showed a lack of filial piety), compared to if an Asian celebrity did. As such, it comes down to what's within the norms of the society the person who did it lives in and whether I can understand those values. And where don't, to call out the society as well +/- the individual in question.

Honestly I’m all for people learning from their mistakes even when they should have known better. At the end of the day we are all human, it’s more annoying when a mistake can cause so much damage to a community.
As an African American woman I honestly find it hard to support most K-Pop idols because of stuff like this… Edit: let me add while everyone keeps commenting on this original post - my comment does not only pertain to racism but also cultural appropriation. Too many of these idols have gotten away with doing or saying something offensive. Now, if more of these idols actually took the time to educate themselves like their companies put out statements about we would see a lot less cultural appropriation and a lot less of situations of people just being ignorant to the struggles of others especially those of different ethnic backgrounds. Even though some may not understand the implications of using certain language it is their job as a human being to understand the language they CHOOSE to use and the weight it carries. Far too many people are ready to cancel their favorite idol because they started dating rather than the fact that they use derogatory language or expressed extremely polarizing views which is the issue here. The only reason I stated that I was African-American was to express the point of it is hard for me to see someone appropriating my or any culture and then not understand or even take the time to try to understand it. I understand these idols do not get a say in much until they make it big and even then they are still bound by agreements and contracts; that however does not give one the right to feign ignorance when it best suits them. And speaking honestly if for every time one of these companies stated they would take the time to educate themselves on why something was offensive to a certain culture or ethnicity half of these new occurrences of using racial slurs or making inappropriate remarks would not have happened because the company itself would be educated thus their idols would also be educated. A lot of these studies people are referencing mean nothing because a study grounded in bias does not determine what a person experiences in the real world especially in the US.
I still love and support many artists, but being new to this, it’s like stepping on landmines finding out one did blackface or said/mouthed the n-word. My approach to it is just to judge it on a case by case basis. If they have a history behind doing racially/culturally insensitive things, than it’s time to jump ship. If this the first/second time and it’s something like wearing a doormat or mouthing the n-word, I’m more inclined to be forgiving.
Yup and with that being said; you can appreciate a culture without partaking in it (for ex if a specific set of people tell you not to do something and you do it because you “appreciate” it, you’re not appreciating you’re taking and using it for your own aesthetic pleasure). But you can partake in cultures that invite you into their space, the line between appreciation and appropriation is not thin. As long as you listen to the people, they will tell you what is ok and what is not ok. And no one has the right to undermine them. *No one*
@@superiorpanda6449 but still those "specific set of people" is subjective. Some people within a minority might say "it's okay" while others might say"don't" .
@@follyjolly7833 That is true, that’s why it’s best to listen to the collective voice of the people rather then the minority. There’s probably a reason as to why the smaller number is the minority.
This isn't really related to "The worst Kpop apologies" but i think a big problem within the kpop industry is how they use Islam as an aesthetic. This issue isn't an isolated incident, it keeps on happening. Just recently MNET used a "remixed" version of the Adhan. Now for those of you who don't know what the Adhan is, It's the call for prayer for Muslims all around the world. The words used in this call for prayer hold major significance in the Islamic faith. And now to see a big company like MNET to use such a track for one of their shows is really upsetting and disturbing. Its not like they have a small number of staff to check if the track is appropriate for their show. Even NCT U had a case where they used the Islamic shrine as a backdrop for their performance. Not only is the Islamic shrine a mosque but also the burial of Imam Husayn (the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Islamic leader). This is not all, even a line from an Islamic prayer text was seen on the stage’s backdrop.....A while back, CL was also seen incorporating verses from the Quran into a song on her Hello Bitches Tour. I'm sure there are many other incidents that i have not mentioned and yet the ones i have are already so shocking and disturbing. What does one gain from inserting verses from the Quran into songs? If you want an Arabian aesthetic in your songs, just use words from the Arabic language..you don't need to use religious text. I hope more people are aware of these situations as it can prompt for change.
That problem is a little different than most of these cases, but still inappropriate, because even western artist do the same. In those cases, it’s because they’ve generally have no one to voice an informed opinion on Islam, they just see it all as the same. That’s especially true in S. Korea with their tiny Islamic population, who most likely do not have a big presence in the K-Entertainment industry. It really wouldn’t hurt them to hire people and have things checked by outside sources, but that is an extra step and those controversies don’t usually hurt their core demographic. Same thing happens with Desi and Indigenous American cultures. On the other hand, as a lot of the industry takes from Black culture and many producers and talents they work for are Black, they really don’t need to work hard to find someone to check then on that. But again, other cultures and religions are very much underrepresented in the K-entertainment industry and it looks like that won’t change much any time soon.
As a brown person I can completely understand what u r saying they also use the Indian culture as aesthetic and do stereotypical barathanatym moves into some songs that has a "Indian" sound and that dumb Cury song don't get me started on it..
nobody talks about Islam being used as an aesthetic and me being a Muslim..pisses me off. CL used to be my fav artist..but now I've lost all respect for her. she apologized sure..but that didn't even sound like an apology. I hope ppl talk about the kpop industry using a religion as an aesthetic. we Muslims want the kpop industry to stop using our religion as an aesthetic.
I'm glad you brought this up. We often talk about cultural appropriation, which is really disrespectful, but when societies across the world are increasingly secular, no one talks about religious appropriation and sacrilege. I'm a Christian with nothing but love for my Muslim brethren, and I hate when people misrespresent and misinterpret religious practices. To some extent I now know why cultural appropriation is very hurtful to minorities especially to black fans. We adore their culture yet still discriminate on who they are as a people which I now understand why it's very hurtful and I fully respect why anyone would take offense in this way. It's not just hair, style, clothes and music. We still deny them of the right to be respected even though we gain from their culture without bearing the pain that comes along with it. I only hope that more fans would truly take the time to have healthy discussions regarding cultural appropriation and respecting what is hurtful to others and the pain they had to go through because of it. Again, please read the comments on this post. Sharing thoughts and opinions and openly learning from each other is what we should promote instead of blindly defending idols because we don't know how it feels. I part you with peace and love and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day 💜
The main issue here is with idols or celebrities taking from black culture and not paying it any respect or paying homage. They put on cornrows and durags without shouting out the culture it comes from, instead treating it like a costume. On the other hand, if you are wearing another cultures clothing with a friend's blessing and using it to share the culture with others, it's coming from a good mindset and will be very welcome :)
it would be nice if we could just share things from other cultures without it being a big deal. however, black people especially get offended at cultural appropriation bc a lot of the world doesn’t like black people but always wanna use our stuff. and other people get to use our stuff and be seen as cool while black people are seen as “ghetto”. for example, kpop has a lot of hip hop and r&b influences and that comes from black people. but black people cant even go to korea without facing discrimination. fatou from the group black swan has to deal with racism cus she’s black in a kpop group as if a lot of kpop isn’t influenced by black people. and i don’t keep up with male idols but i remember one really famous one had dread locs in his hair at one time…. a lot of black people are denied jobs and/or treated poorly by others for having dread locs in their hair. it’s a costume and a “concept” for others, for black people it’s real life and causes them a lot of strife and hardship in life
Yeah. You're describing 'cultural appreciation' though, which is exactly what you said; positive sharing of one's culture and cultural beliefs, values, and attitudes, to people of a different culture wanting to learn more about it. 'Cultural appropriation' is when people appropriate one's culture, often done to minority, oppressed groups. This further exacerbates the problem of these communities having no voice or audience to hear their struggles, and in turn often popularises and increases the implications people of that culture experience, if they were to portray themselves in a way that outwardly presents their culture, ancestry, or ethnic links. Example being cultural dress and hairstyles. School-aged and working people are sent home, not given a job, or fired due to their appearance, in terms of clothing worn and, again, their hairstyles. A black person can wear a hairstyle synonymous to their ancestral lands and be told they are "unkept, dirty, and too mature", causing further fallout and a repeated cycle of particularly prejudicial beliefs against people in authority. On the opposing side, a non-black person can wear a hairstyle again synonymous with black culture and people, and receive compliments for their "new look," being called "gangsta, fresh, and hot". Can you see the double standards here? And that's not even the worst implications that happen. It's like black girls being told off for "dressing inappropriately" when they're wearing the same clothes as others. Just because certain genetics influenced by your race cause some people to start puberty earlier than others, these people are bullied and abused, called "sl*ts" and other horrible terms, all implying a sexual nature and tone to future activities. This results in a higher percentage of racially charged assaults and non-consensual sexual intercourse, and even presents psychological reactions to young, black girls being seen as "more mature and able to lie", than their counterparts of other races. Anyway, that may have gone into too much detail and may have even scared you off, but it's the truth, and the world is ugly. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions or want clarification on a specific thing you don't understand completely.
So I'm just going to briefly tell you why cultural appropriation is horrible. So let's take BlackPink Lisa's recent cultural appropriation scandal thingy as a small example. So basically Lisa had something really similar to box braids in her Money music video. Now, if you didn't know, box braids originate from African- American/Black culture. Box braids have a deep history and are quite an integral part of Black culture. Lisa wore these braids without knowing about their history and without crediting the people and the culture where they originated from. So that's her appropriating a culture and not appreciating it. Like she basically only used a culture for "aesthetic purposes". Moreover, black people are always criticised/oppressed for wearing braids but when a non-black person does it, its suddenly pretty or aesthetic. This is basically why black Blinks were very angry about this. I really could go on and on about cultural appropriation in the k-pop industry but that would honestly take me too long. I'm glad that Blinks educated Lisa about this tho. Also the way Lisa actually took time to listen to the Blinks and ACTUALLY apologized was really good to see. I hope to see her change in the future. (also as much as I wanted to go into detail about this certain Lisa case, I only briefly explained it, so I suggest you watch some videos on cultural appropriation in the k-pop industry. I think it will really change your perspective of k-pop idols and k-pop in general )
I just dont get it why it is claimed ‘racism’ if white people wear braids or dreads or types of clothes that were originally worn by ‘african-south american’ people “only”

For Heeseung's case, the audio had overlapping voices so it was not 100% confirmed that he said it, but everybody just jumped on that hate wagon and said that he did, even his own fandom abandoned him. What happened on weverse was mostly the fans and antis fault as they were taking it too far. Many antis's made severe posts to make this issue blow up. Many cover the news of Heeseung saying the n word while the audio doesn't 100% confirms it. But the truth about a fan lying about trying to commit suicide because of the bullying caused by this controversy is not widely covered. Fans or anti can make or lie about so much stuff and the artist is always losing or blamed for it. Like most controversy comes from the fans or anti intentionally wanting to ruin idols' life and they are mostly winning so far sadly. Always check facts before canceling someone. We see so many reversal cases where the controversies happen to be false or made up by anti but sadly they hardly get any coverage.

It seems really egotistical to me to assume that everyone should stay up to date on American news or history when they don't live and have never lived there.
Here in america we don't see what's going on in korea unless its in the news like few months ago i was looking up jessica jung former snsd artist to see whats been going on but there has been no news about her only like a few things. In Korea maybe they have some restrictions on what is publicized on the news and not around the world if so not that much of it
Totally agree !!! A lot of Americans expect the world to know everything about the US, but they wouldn't even be able to name half the countries on a map , let alone know about their culture ☠️☠️☠️☠️
I really like how this video holds the companies and artists accountable!! Like, no mercy, no watering things down when doing so I'm glad to see this in a kpop video, especially one from a bigger acc :)
For people saying things like: "There are so many idols who had to apologise even though it was not their fault" I know that. I know. There are many idols who apologized for something which wasn't their fault but there are also many k-pop idols who have to apologise but still haven't. Like all the artists mentioned in the video were supposed to APOLOGISE and they did (idk if that was sincere or not).
@@zaaainaaabb exactly. they’re babying idols and making them seem innocent by focusing on the ones that didn’t do anything wrong. just stfu if you’re not willing to accept the fact that your idols might have stuff to apologize for.
Personally there's been a lot of discussions of wether heeseung actually said the word or not, from my personal take i think it was an unfortunate case of noises overlapping as well with jungwon singing the next part of the song and jake talking since from what i could hear at least, heeseung cut himself off midway and jungwon's verse was heard right after (that might be just me tho, and im in no position to judge so feel free to let me know your thoughts) but i am dissapointed with the lack of response towards the racism black engenes had to go through, i feel like if hybe could release a statement about protecting their artists, surely they could've released a statement about protecting the community of fans within the fandom. p.s i'm not black so again i'm in no position to actually forgive anything, this is just my personal account that i've taken from the situation
black or not, we can all agree that engenes behaviour was disgusting and the lack of response made things 100% worse. and you're right. they can release a statement about protecting artists but not addressing attacks towards a whole demographic of people?? your fans you claim to value and love???? Insanity.
In Asia almost every country don't know about Culture appropriation cuz here we are never taught about it that some perticular hairstyles or word could harm someone soo much . I have seen in my country people singing N word without any hesitation , I have seen them using box braids some times for looking cool and no one complain about this just cuz most of them aren't aware of this situation . So , I can understand where it goes wrong when sometimes idols do mistake regarding these things . I think every company should educate them about CA .
Instead of demanding apologies from all these idols just wait for them to apologise and see if they actually do. Shows what kinda people they are and if they actually feel bad instead of feeling forced to say what the fans want to hear.
I actually remember the ENHYPEN one. Being a engene myself they switched up SO FAST! They started saying us was jay and others saying it and that it was an accident (then though Heeseung knows English rather well) then after that the racism came. Omg it was terrible I’ve actually never seen fans that bad in a long while. I’m actually kinda scared to engene seeing how fast half of them switched it. I wish I could blame it on there young age or something but there’s no reason to do what they did (I’m in no way saying all engene are the same ❤️ when I say the ones I’m scared of that’s relating to the engene who started being really aggressive with other fans)
As a black and purely african person - which means I know a lot more about Black people culture- I'm SICK totally SICK of this stupid controversy about cultural appropriation. To adopt elements of another culture in yours proves you recognize its genius or its incredible creativity ( and maybe as much it is the own of this culture). So, what makes it something racist ? For decades, centuries, milleniums, cultures have been shared between different Peoples, friendly towards each other or not. So nowadays, that we leave in a ''peaceful world'', what's the thing with using elements from other cultures ? Honestly, as an african, I know we only use braids to embellish our hair because there is no other way to deal with its curly texture. It does not have a particular meaning. So why would not Jay Park and his mateS braid their hair ? It is NOT exactly the own of African American culture : they borrow it to the african culture so they should not complain about it if we don't do so.... And are even less entitled to as long as they are the one that sets it meaningless because making it a part of the Hip Hop culture which means something anybody in the world can use.
I don't understand how getting dreadlocks is a sign of disrespect towards other people's culture. I'm not hating I'm just a little confused. Personally, I think that having another cultures hairstyle shows that you like their style and respect that. It's just a hairstyle. You don't see Western countries looking at other countries doing high-ponytails and saying that "it's disrespectful towards their culture" It's the same with clothing items like the durag mentioned in the video. BTW this is my own personal opinion. If it's offended anyone I apologize in advance.
Ok so I'm not silencing any black people nor defending mamamoo. If you are black you have every right to speak up and express your feelings. So I live in Asia and in the country that I live people don't even know what is black people and how they look let alone their culture and sensitivitive things. Only 1%or 2% of the people knows about cultures outside our country let alone America. I'm assuming Korea will be similar because my country is pretty close to korea. Listen in my country people paint their skin white,Black, pink green etc etc in fancy dress compilations. But do they mean any harm by doing it to black people? No they don't even know what is black face.i myself didn't know what is a Black face and why it is offensive to were black hairstyles and what is the n word up until 2021. Listen the whole world doesn't revolve around US. Nor we are backdated if we don't know about us culture. A lot of Americans don't know about cultures outside their continent and they never get called backdated for that.People from the friking other continuances will not gonna know what is US's culture and what Americans find offensive. Yes we have internet. But that doesn't mean every single one of us will gonna research about us culture if we don't need to. Do American's research about south asian cultures if they don't need to?NO. 95% of the people aren't even fluent in English then how you expect them to know about black culture? I agree that kpop has become more international and they should be more careful now and mamamoo should be held accountable for their mistakes but in 2017 most of the people don't even know what is kpop. So it is normal to make mistakes. And they have apologized for that. If you don't want to forgive them then you don't have to. But you cannot drag them for that anymore.
I just laugh when I see a non Asian person with tattoos of Asian characters or images. Would that be considered cultural appropriation? I don’t expect them to apologize for it.
But these are not just light things, these are issues that are deeply rooted in people's culture and issues that have history it really isn't the same as getting a tattoo with Asian characters unless those characters were used to belittle the said group of Asians for decades
That’s YOU though you basically weapon-zing CA You not blk so you wouldn’t react the same as us blk kpop Stan’s these idols say the N-word and mock our culture and when we get called out for it y’all quick to say we hating or start being racist to us but if someone was racist to an idol y’all would go crazy and tell the person to kill they selves but it’s okay for these idols to mock our culture and say a word we reclaimed?
everybody expects kpop idols to know what racist is to be honestly the teacher don't teach this in school, I didn't do what racist was until I got into social media I barely know about racist even though I'm 14. people just make mistakes without knowing what it means.
Mamamoo made mistakes & actually said sorry, they have always showed love for everybody regardless who they are or look like, they had no ill intentions, or to make fun, nothing like that. Lots of groups also make fun of other member's skin colour, they never made fun of Hwasa's tanner skin. I don't understand you put them in a video called 'worst apologies' when there are groups constantly doing CA and don't say anything, or if they do just do it shortly. All the members support Black Lives Matters, Solar even talked about the movement on her youtube channel. They come up for minorities, while living in a country like South-Korea. I don't know why people paint in such negative light while not even knowing them and only talk from seeing what they did, not even bothering to search for their apologies.
The thing is, as a moomoo, it's just frustrating and upsetting that Hwasa just can't seem to stop to appropriate black culture. While the other members after the incident learned their lesson and educated themselves (like you said for example Solar talking about blm, or Wheein and Moonbyul supporting blm ), hwasa just keeps getting in trouble because of her ignorance. Like i love mamamoo but I can't defend her for her actions. It just doesn't feel right to support this kind of behaviour.
Honestly, it's 21st century things such as black face and using the N word shouldn't even happen whether these idols apologize or not. Again, just coz someone posted about blm or those black squares to protest against black people's brutality doesn't mean they can't be racist or ignorant. Even pedophiles donate to children's charities and abusers donate to domestic violence charities. Y'all should stop using charities and donations to justify how "amazing" your faves are🙄. I love Hwasa but honestly I would say all idols who've been caught in racist and cultural appropriation scandals equally had the worst apologies and let me not even start with BTS😂😂😂. In short, the kpop industry is just racist and also filled with unconscious bias🤷🏽♀️
If I'm not wrong, after Amber made that comment in JK News, one of the members from Just Kidding News, Joe, educated her and Amber accepted it and moved on.
She didn't say anything racist anyway and had no idea the man was black until the people showing her the video told her. She asked if he'd already been warned about eating on the platform and if there were signs, that's the only reason she said he deserved to be arrested. Twitter took one clip, labeled it "Amber says this man deserves to be arrested because he's black" then spread it. No one would listen to anything else and the JKNews channel took the vid down when they should have left it up so people could get the actual source material What she said was ignorant but not racist and she didn't have all the info.
@@GopherCakeStuff right. She grew up in the US but doesn't know what a black person looks like. And then in her apology she said that she forgot racism existed in the US... only a delulu stan or a racist fan would believe that
@@Bom13 she didn't say she forgot racism existed, and she was watching the vid at an angle. So while what she said was ignorant and didn't take his race into consideration, it wasn't racist. Her apology wasn't great but I haven't read one that is. At least she made the effort to apologize twice and to people reaching out to her on Twitter as well as to take steps to educate herself afterward and during black lives matter. She didn't just throw out an apology and hope for the best. She took steps which is a lot more than others did.
@@Bom13 funny how I'm suddenly being labeled as racist (I'm black btw if you can't tell by my photo) just because I choose to gather information to form my own opinion and consider things rather than jump to one conclusion and stick to it. I watched the entire video the incident was based on, I read her initial apology and everything that followed.
Okay that Enhypen Case it's still not sure if anyone of the members said or mouthed the word and I saw the whole video but I can't seem to find any traces of them singing that word in it idk how netizens heard it maybe the word was in the song but we aren't completely sure if anyone said it so first of all (to netizens) get clear about every single thing and then accuse others🙂
Yeah it was a decently formatted apology but was it genuine? (Rhetorical question, don't answer that) in that video she had no problems stating how "disrespectful" he was allegedly being and how the officer deserves respect SOLELY bc he was a police officer but in her apology she said it angers her how he was singled out due to being Black. If it angered her from the start, why would she go out of her way to say he should've complied? Her apology seemed very performative but that's just how I feel
@@lovechoerrymotion5086 she was definitely being genuine about her apology. She didn't realise his race until someone else mentioned it in the video. Since her apology, she has also donated several times towards BLM and mentioned several times throughout the past couple of years how much she has fcked up and how much she regrets it. Of course no one has to accept her apology, but she has definitely been putting in so much energy into educating herself rather than just putting it aside and hoping one day it will be forgotten like many others seem to attempt to do.
I'm sorry but the hwasa incident with the durag shouldn't have been such a big issue, I've seen Eminem and other white people wearing that but yet I never saw them get shit for that. Things like that shouldn't be taken so seriously, like calm tf down, getting mad for no reason🤦♀️
Yeah. The phrase cultural appropriation gets thrown around way too much. It seems like any use of anything that isn’t originally from the culture you are born into is automatically appropriation.
@@sian4950 because cultural tradition isn't for entertainment moreover it is cultural appropriation. I'm not offended either but people should just respect those who takes these tradition seriously
I totally get what you mean. The difference is appropriating another persons culture versus appreciating it. Appropriation is using someone else’s culture as a costume or aesthetic and not understanding the history or meaning behind it. Cultural Appreciation is the opposite, understanding why a piece of clothing or hairstyle is important to a culture and respecting it. Black hairstyles is a complicated one because they were mocked so heavily by white people for so long. So wearing dreads or braids is just seen as disrespectful because of how they were treated for them same hairstyles in the past.
@Moonbyul's straight hair made me ✨gay ✨ yes when people were cancelling G-idle for wearing mehndì meanwhile me as a south asian was actually happy about it that someone liked my culture
@@laravio Who decides when it is appropriation and when appreciation though? Sámi people(minority in nothern Europe) are really divided on this. Some of them say that non-sámi people should never wear anything from their culture even in private. Some of them say it is okay to wear them in private and some are okay as long as you don't modify and/or sell them forward. At the same time people making and selling the clothes and accessories are mad at the others because now they can't sell their products because people are scared of being considered racists. None of those groups care if people know the history or meaning behind the clothes. There is no winning. Whatever you do someone will get angry.
Amber did nothing wrong. Why do people automatically assume the police was harassing the man because he is black? I think Amber commented with the POV of “respect the police. If a policeman tells you it’s illegal to eat in the station, stop eating and toss the food in the garbage can (or put it in your backpack). The man was being confrontational so that’s why he was cuffed.
@@summerm4911 He should have put the sandwich away when the officer originally asked (doubt would have handcuffed him right-away without giving him a chance to stop eating). Ignorance of the law is no excuse. All he had to do was stop eating and keep his mouth shut.
i'm asking this genuinely and don't intend to be disrespectful. why do people (mostly people with a western(ized) mindset from what i've seen) get so offended when somebody dresses as another ethnic group? where i come from the traditions of all ethnic groups in my country can be worn by other people and no one would complain. we would even appreciate it. i've seen people of different ethnicities around the world wonder the same thing too and question why the members of their communities that live in the west don't accept it, while they themselves don't seem to mind or have no reason to. it was until i became a k-pop fan that i adapted this mentality too. i tried to wrap my head around it, couldn't find an explanation and decided 'oh well, maybe it's just bad for some reason i can't comprehend and i should just go with that." but honestly years later i still don't see why it's a bad thing. and i don't think i should. you have the right to be offended still, though. but i don't think that, by definition, is considered cultural appropriation.
Some examples I can think of that’s bad is when Idol A wears something exclusively religious as an aesthetic. Another is when Idol B wears something from a culture but then proceeds to shit on that culture and that people in it. But most situations that I’ve seen don’t really have that, so yeah imo it’s just really blown out of proportion
Not here dragging other groups but why whenLisa, blackpink, Exo and even Bts are not mentioned. Bts and Lisa knows eng and still did it. I know you are an army but that doesn't gives you the opportunity to drag other groups as the worst kpop apology, while selectively omitting others.. Mention all of them if you have to make a video. Regarding the n word, some of the groups here have no English speaker, they aren't aware of the American culture, still they apologized for it not knowing what they did wrong and educated themselves about it(like Mamamoo). I can go on and on about what's wrong with the video, but let's just stop here.
Ok but the video is worst apologies and bts has never apologised then how can she add bts in this video. And a lot of idols have said the n word and have done a bunch of racist things if she includes everybody then this video would be more than 5 hours. She kind of picked random ones. Just bc another idol has done the same thing that doesn’t changes what the idols mentioned in this video have done right. Hwasa did apologise for the n word maybe she didn’t know but don’t defend her she did the blackface twice . mamamoo did the black face then apologised for it and then hwasa did the same again. Bts said the n word in the past and have never really done anything racist and even donated to BLM too their current actions show that they have educated themselves while those actions aren’t applicable for hwasa or anybody in this video. Like they say actions speak louder than words. And yes I am an army but I will support other idols in this video if they do something to redeem for their past mistakes
So you would rather them get away with their "ignorance" and racism than hold them accountable because you don't want them to get hate, am I correct? Because that what it seems like you're saying.
@@notgoodatonlinenames9943 didnt she say they apologized?? holding somehow accountable for a thing that they already educated themselves about isnt right though?

I think Korean artist need to educate themselves of culture appropriation in all forms in culture. It seems like anytime Koreans artist do something that is supposed to be fun or paying homage to the black culture or any other culture it just gets a backlash without any form of knowledge of why it’s a backlash. For example hairstyles, fashion ,cultural heritage and blackface. I’m pretty sure if a non-Korean was to take their culture or traditions and make fun of them I’m pretty sure there will be a backlash
Bruno Mars isn't black though. They did Asian/Puerto Rico face. I dont believe in gate keeping locs and drags. Durags are a protective for your hair it's like getting mad at other cultures for wearing bonnets. And you can say it's because they are wearing it as a style. But I've worn my bonnet for a style. Although Monique dragged people like me lmao. .....is it wrong that I don't think any of this was that bad? Expect for the Bruno Mars one. Not need to darken your skin (even if he is asian) just throw on a curly wig. Would they have darkened it if it was any other souther Asian? It's rude especially since we all know how low they think of dark skin and I say that towards all of Asia. The have bleach creams in everything lotion, deodorant (when then sell it), soaps, face wash....
i really dont understand why amber is here, she genuinely apologised for her mistake, she didnt even know the guy in the video was black, even i didn't know until someone told me. ya'll kpop stans will just use anything against an idol, ive seen this so much "she apologised because she got caught" "her apology was in-genuine" like have you stopped to think that maybe she didnt apologised because she got backlash but because it was only when people actually pointed out her mistake, did she realise she even made one. that sorn chick from clc should've been here, she did blackface and when fans called her out she just said "some of ya'll need to chill" same with jackson wang. now im kinda thankful yaning and ruiqi didnt debut in kep1er, saved them all the abuse ya'll put idols through for no reason. this comment section is proof of how annoying and ignorant fans are, like here's a serious video about ca and bad apologies but half the comments are people shoving their faves in for no reason like "omgg lucas apologised for no reason, soojin apologised for no reason" like that not the point of this video. again these privileged stans ignore the actual issues and use this as an opportunity to victimise their faves even though it has nothing to do with the actual video.
im a mamamoo stan, posters on my wall, albums on my shelf and all but i will NEVER not call them out when i have to. i hate that sometimes stan twitter tries to bury the problem instead of addressing it. none of the members know english. it is possible it is just ignorance. i dont know how much cultural relativity plays into it but what i do know is if you care about your idols like you say you do, you want them to grow and learn from their mistakes. i will be loud every time. what they did was disgusting. i hope they really did take the time to learn more about black history. i do think hwasa's durag was on her stylist. groups never pick their own outfits on competition shows and it is incredible that no one called that out during dress rehearses. that should have been fixed by network representatives on the spot. it was a whole lot of ignorant people in one place. but i will not shy away from the fact these things happened. if someone asks me about it i wont be hush hush. i wont only discuss it in the dms. it happened. it was fucked up but i do believe that people can change, grow and improve. if it happens again, then i will have a serious problem. i know and understand that in a very homogeneous society where everyone is the same ethnicity and you dont know another language and don't really have access or understanding of what other cultures entail might be a hurdle but surely someone from their company that did spend time abroad or is fluent and can do proper research can give them a thorough explanation so that they aren't kept in the dark. the anti blackness in the industry is crossing the lines so often im pretty sure it should be part of their training process to learn about other cultures, not just have random language classes but actually learn about life and struggles that minorities face
Amber Liu was completely right. This first guy should have not argued with the police officers. Instead - he should have stopped eating this sandwich and then written a complaint stating that they had made him stop eating it illegally. It would have had much bigger impact provided he had been right about non exsisting signs. Besides - provide me please with a legitimate proof that the first situation had racial undercurrent. Did any of these police officers say anything about this guy's skin colour or made any remark about his race?
Personally, I don't think we should be immediately cancelling Kpop idols for repeating lyrics in american songs that are racist/homophobic. Why would they be as sensitive to it as we are? It's not a word in their locale. I'm gay, and while I know the gay community hasn't gone through half of the trauma the BIPOC community has, if I heard a foreign artist say the F slur, especially in the context of a song, I would much rather politely explain why that could trigger people. But as someone fluent in multiple languages, I am definitely guilty of not knowing that something I was saying was offensive in another language, and it's kinda eurocentric of us to expect everyone to conform with american language especially since we seem to have no problem allowing it to be said in songs widely consumed by cis, straight, white people. Again, I'm not a member of the BIPOC community so take my words with a grain of salt, but I think--while its totally valid to be offended by the word itself, we should be a little bit more forgiving for people whos first language isn't english.
San E to me comes across as an edgelord. Like I have no doubt his misogynistic views are his own but the way he handles all his controversies by doubling down on it, to me screams he loves to piss people off. the level of ignorance in the k-pop world is just uncomfortable
@@evilwelshman hello, im asian living in asia. thank you for understanding us. i know it sounds fucked up, but tbh i still dont get the concept of CA and all that. but things like talking to someone older in an informal language is sth that bothers me. norms are different here, what is seen as right or wrong is different. i hope that western kpop fans can understand that doesnt mean it's wrong in their culture, doesnt mean it's also wrong here. what's needed is a level of tolerance to learn how to be more considerate towards other cultures, but again thats hard to do. if we only educate the idols, that wont do a thing bc theres still a whole community of koreans.

As an African American woman I honestly find it hard to support most K-Pop idols because of stuff like this…
Edit: let me add while everyone keeps commenting on this original post - my comment does not only pertain to racism but also cultural appropriation.

People should learn the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation🙃
*No one*

DAY6 is my all time favorite band, but I still can't appreciate that "Oh my Jesus" is a part of the lyrics to one of their songs. But it's so normalized in society that we can't really speak up about our misgivings as religious people.

Out of all Kpop idols, Amber is one I believe wouldn’t say something like that if she were fully aware. She has always been incredibly genuine and kind to her fans, and people in general. Leaving the US at a young age and spending most of her time overseas and as busy as a Kpop idol is, I totally get why she wasn’t completely knowledgeable about the situation.
I think what she meant was that he should’ve been arrested for disobeying the police officers and trying not to go. Yes, it’s ridiculous that he was getting arrested but he still can’t disobey the cops. They are still cops I think that’s what she meant.
The JK group did her dirty. Whomever edited the video knew what they were doing when they added that clip on the video.
I'm a black woman and she didn't lie. He did deserve it. Don't need to post a sign for you to know the law. Ignorance is not a defense. Cops did nothing wrong and he just wanted a blm moment, to try to get money
I mean I don't know a thing about police in the USA and I still think Amber just said her opinion as a Korean and being respectful towards the police in Asia is normal and understandable. I myself find the situation in the video with that police officer shocking cause the man was just eating sandwich ffs - for me it doesn't matter what colour is his skin, he just was innocent. So in Amber's place I would just have said that's not fair and is a certanly the policemen's misconduct. But again I don't know anything about the poliece in the US etc and don't know would this policemen target the man if he had a different skin colour. If he's really a racist it's a serious precedent and I hope such things don't stay unreported and unpunished.

EDIT: I truly want to say thank you for all the wonderful insightful comments below regarding CA.

Totally agreed. Haters and antis just jumped on the bandwagon to blame Heeseung without truly investigated the alleged n word video, seems like they had been waiting for the opportunity to drug Heeseung even Enhypen as a whole for millions year.

I wish I could blame it on there young age or something but there’s no reason to do what they did (I’m in no way saying all engene are the same ❤️ when I say the ones I’m scared of that’s relating to the engene who started being really aggressive with other fans)
They make idols apologize for things that don't matter but they don't care when their idols say the n word or appropriate other cultures
I've been waiting for a video like this
As a black and purely african person - which means I know a lot more about Black people culture- I'm SICK totally SICK of this stupid controversy about cultural appropriation.
You must definitely be a child not knowing how black people struggled with having braids saw as unprofessional, use for sl@ve to escape and etc...
There is not one idol I think is fully aware of everything and isn’t racist. Sorry but they all know and are still racist

Right? Everything in America are CA OR OFFENSIVE 😭😭😩😩
But these are not just light things, these are issues that are deeply rooted in people's culture and issues that have history it really isn't the same as getting a tattoo with Asian characters unless those characters were used to belittle the said group of Asians for decades

They don't like mamamoo and that's a chance to make people hate them more
They didn't
So wearing dreads or braids is just seen as disrespectful because of how they were treated for them same hairstyles in the past.

why do people (mostly people with a western(ized) mindset from what i've seen) get so offended when somebody dresses as another ethnic group? where i come from the traditions of all ethnic groups in my country can be worn by other people and no one would complain. we would even appreciate it. i've seen people of different ethnicities around the world wonder the same thing too and question why the members of their communities that live in the west don't accept it, while they themselves don't seem to mind or have no reason to. it was until i became a k-pop fan that i adapted this mentality too. i tried to wrap my head around it, couldn't find an explanation and decided 'oh well, maybe it's just bad for some reason i can't comprehend and i should just go with that." but honestly years later i still don't see why it's a bad thing. and i don't think i should. you have the right to be offended still, though. but i don't think that, by definition, is considered cultural appropriation.

i really dont understand why amber is here, she genuinely apologised for her mistake, she didnt even know the guy in the video was black, even i didn't know until someone told me. ya'll kpop stans will just use anything against an idol, ive seen this so much "she apologised because she got caught" "her apology was in-genuine" like have you stopped to think that maybe she didnt apologised because she got backlash but because it was only when people actually pointed out her mistake, did she realise she even made one. that sorn chick from clc should've been here, she did blackface and when fans called her out she just said "some of ya'll need to chill" same with jackson wang. now im kinda thankful yaning and ruiqi didnt debut in kep1er, saved them all the abuse ya'll put idols through for no reason. this comment section is proof of how annoying and ignorant fans are, like here's a serious video about ca and bad apologies but half the comments are people shoving their faves in for no reason like "omgg lucas apologised for no reason, soojin apologised for no reason" like that not the point of this video. again these privileged stans ignore the actual issues and use this as an opportunity to victimise their faves even though it has nothing to do with the actual video.
im a mamamoo stan, posters on my wall, albums on my shelf and all but i will NEVER not call them out when i have to. i hate that sometimes stan twitter tries to bury the problem instead of addressing it. none of the members know english. it is possible it is just ignorance. i dont know how much cultural relativity plays into it but what i do know is if you care about your idols like you say you do, you want them to grow and learn from their mistakes. i will be loud every time. what they did was disgusting. i hope they really did take the time to learn more about black history. i do think hwasa's durag was on her stylist. groups never pick their own outfits on competition shows and it is incredible that no one called that out during dress rehearses. that should have been fixed by network representatives on the spot. it was a whole lot of ignorant people in one place. but i will not shy away from the fact these things happened. if someone asks me about it i wont be hush hush. i wont only discuss it in the dms. it happened. it was fucked up but i do believe that people can change, grow and improve. if it happens again, then i will have a serious problem. i know and understand that in a very homogeneous society where everyone is the same ethnicity and you dont know another language and don't really have access or understanding of what other cultures entail might be a hurdle but surely someone from their company that did spend time abroad or is fluent and can do proper research can give them a thorough explanation so that they aren't kept in the dark. the anti blackness in the industry is crossing the lines so often im pretty sure it should be part of their training process to learn about other cultures, not just have random language classes but actually learn about life and struggles that minorities face

Again, I'm not a member of the BIPOC community so take my words with a grain of salt, but I think--while its totally valid to be offended by the word itself, we should be a little bit more forgiving for people whos first language isn't english.
heeseung didnt really say the n word the other member jungwon was singing personally (idk what artist) that made it sound like heeseung say the n word
San E to me comes across as an edgelord. Like I have no doubt his misogynistic views are his own but the way he handles all his controversies by doubling down on it, to me screams he loves to piss people off. Like his incident with Irene, he was literally trying to rile up her fans. How he would stir the pot on unpretty rapstars. Dude lives to antagonize and knows full well what he's saying and doing. It's a good thing his career is dead.
I don't know why are ppl still bringing that heeseung one up when it couldn't even be clearly heard what he was singing
I think sanE apology was the worst, yet again sometimes kpop idols apologize for stupid things, so i guess sometimes idols act up like that cuz of the backlash they get for literally doing nothing
Mamamoo were totally ignorant.. They were Rockies at that time, so they did what ever their company said...
And when it comes to queen Hwasa well she hasn't done anything as suck that you would call her out for just wearing a prop, that too.. Must be their stylist...
@Moonbyul's straight hair made me ✨gay ✨ omg what... I only stan Mamamoo...
And I get it they did wrong.. But they literally didn't knew as a person.. They apologized in a rightful way too.. But still, after so many years..
Hwasa said the n word
@@hayoung1667 she did but she wasnt aware of what it was. she sang it with lyrics (that originally didnt even have the n word, but Melon put it in there anyway). i think she also apologized for that too
@@newroses how do you know she wasn't aware??
@@hayoung1667 well in Mamamoo Hwasa and weeim are the worst in English.. She was given a sheet from which she had to read and wasn't aware of what she was saying....
They should have crossed the word out, before giving it to her .. And Korea is the least educated on black culture, we all know that.. From many incidents..
The heesung situation was the worst for me. I’ve never seen such an anti black and racist fandom ever. WEVERSE was a terrible app to be on back around that time. It was so traumatizing when I saw multiple nonblack engenes sending me death threats and threatening to r@pe and lynch me just because I wanted bighit to address the situation.
This makes me mad because they didn’t do anything wrong and I don’t care what anyone says, people can have whatever opinions they want.
To people like you Idols are above it all and can never do anything wrong
@@lolaBee9 well to people like you, a certain hairstyle is apparently racist.
@@gavvypatty yep
companies stopping/not letting their idols to apologize is just no
