  • Bigfoot IRL. Gigantopithecus was the largest ape to ever exist, that we know of, and led many people in the 1940s to believe giant humans used to exist. The discovery of Gigantopithecus captured the world’s attention and led to a frenzy of excavations to find more of its remains. Today, I will tell you the story of Gigantopithecus and share everything we know about this perplexing ape. I hope you enjoy!
A GIGANTIC thanks to Gian for the phenomenal editing!

The way I worded the weight estimates was a bit confusing so lemme clarify: conservative and maximum estimates combined, they were somewhere between 400-1,000 lbs. NUTS!!

Its so encouraging to hear that collosal is actually working on saving endangered species and the "resurrection" is mostly for mass appeal and marketting. Its gives me hope

I can understand that bringing back things like the mammoth is "sexy", but I wonder why we haven't heard of things like bringing back the northern white rhino, given that we have fresh genetic material and a closely related subspecies to work with. Or is that going on behind the scenes?

  • @JackoNorm

As a scientist myself, it hit way too close to home when you basically said 'we have to trick the general public into funding conservation because they wouldn't really care otherwise'.

  • @ThePrehistoricScholars

It is so interesting that we actually had real-life giants in our past!

  • @bailey6304

Genuinely one of my favourite extinct animals. It's a shame they're not around anymore.

I remember reading a comment saying that her voice sounds like they are getting punched with knowledge. I very much agree to this

The worst part about you is that you don't have more content. I've seen everything you've ever done and honestly I could listen to you talk about anything for hours your passion in what you do is crazy! I hope you make more stuff soon and the NFL intro you did is still stuck in my head that was comedy gold

I'd love to hear more about the whole Colossal thing. Even if we decide that we shouldn't bring back extinct species willy-nilly, I'm sure there is some serious human damage that we can fix by reintroducing certain recently extinct species into now-empty niches.

  • @alexkindl861

Would be interesting if Colossal "resurrected" different lineages of Cheetahs, as breeding pairs for the modern day genetically bottlenecked ones.

It's so funny that porcupines of all things ATE tons of fossil evidence

  • @billyr2904

Gigantopithecus was not only the largest ape ever discovered, but the largest primate ever to be discovered!

2 things learned in this video: 1. My girl at her young age is on the advisory board for a company trying to bring back extinct animals and save the endangered ones! Congrats, Lindsay! Glad you're talents are being recognized!!

  • @haralambimarkov6862

"You wouldn't download a dragon bone" sent me! Hahaha, I live for your videos honestly.

  • @ploopyfudgewink9207

I can’t believe I’ve lived my life up to this point never seeing a porcupine eat a bone. Truly, I am complete now.

  • @Malvikins

I love how you always reference the areas that we aren't certain and explain why we aren't certain yet. It makes reading new scientific findings more interesting because I can put them into context. Thank you!

  • @soulfoodsmama2980

I remember my 8th grade teacher teaching us about gigantopithecus and being wholly convinced that its why we have stories of the Yeti.

  • @cloudbusting.heights

It kills me that people were grinding up and ingesting fossils for so long 😭Amazing video, as always.
