I think I enjoy your reactions because they are so visceral and you have a good way of expressing what we’re all feeling

So Y2K didn't really have much to do with binary. The issue was the way dates were stored as six digits instead of 8. 01/01/01 - January 1, 1900, but once they got close to the turn of 2000, they realized that this might cause some serious issues. However, mostly the problem was patched before New Years', and while there were small outages and minor disruptions, it was far from the catastrophe people feared. And they really did fear it. As someone who does clearly remember it, and even the moment the clock struck midnight that year, it was very tense. Not only were we concerned about Y2k, but just the new millennium in general. There were a lot of cults and weird shit happening, and even famous celebrities were talking about 2000 like it would be the end of the world. Busta Rhymes literally went on TRL and said 'this is the last year, we getting it all set cause when 2000, it's all over' (paraphrasing). It was kinda wild to think about now, because it was the most anticlimactic thing ever. My father had made us all turn off our electronics until the switchover was made, but I remember booting up my old monstrous tower and CRT, dialing up the Internet and being surprised all was well.

Also, as a claustrophobic, I'm with you on the tight spaces. That shit is no good, do not want, hell no. Elevators are fine, anything smaller and you can count me out.
