Spring Trip 2020 - Longing for Simpler Times

  • Even though the weather these days seems like it's still Winter, it's time for the 2020 Spring Trip to It's Go Time Camp. Due to the current global situation I've decided just to head up with Shawn/‪@sintax77‬
    Have a new GoPro 8, 99 percent of the video was shot with this new camera, enjoy the 4K!
    We headed up on the 1st of May to Camp in Tioga County PA, we didn't have a major list of things to due, but still kept busy. More of a vacation destination this time.
    Finding the elusive Tom Turkey was a morning activity that proved unsuccessful, but still rewarding. Knowing we had some fine dinners waiting for us at the end of the day was enough to get us up in the early morning hours.
    Speaking of great food and some interesting recipes; Cheeseburgers, Old Bay wings, Tomahawk ribeye, 333 Chili, and lastly a stop at Tony's Pizza in Wellsboro all tasted fantastic. Better than I would have imagined. We hit it out of the park this time around.
    We did get a little work completed while we were there. The screws on the metal roof needed a tightening up after years of expansion and contraction. And another chimney sweep just to make sure that the wood stove would be breathing properly without any issues of a flame up.
    Also have a hint in the video about an upcoming trip if this world madness calms down. Take a guess in the comments.
    And yes, due to the virus outbreak we did not go with the full Camp, The Chairman, CampCook and Medical Man. Hopefully we will all be able to get together in the near future.
    Sit back and enjoy some Camp time with a beverage and a snack of your own, hope you enjoy!

Would have liked to have seen the others guys and perhaps a cook off between Cook and the Chairman but given the circumstances best to play it safe.Sure is nice country up in the PA mountains. You guys ate like kings the whole time and didn't burn anything. lol Your Stihl just needs a little tune up and it will be fine. Simple yet magical video. Thanks to your son and you for sharing.
    For chili recipes, I have a simple ratio.
    2 cans of beans, 2 cans of diced maters, (14 oz each) to 1 lb of choice of meat. The cans of beans/maters can be chili ready, with onions, with peppers, what ever is on sale. Add in a HUGE onion, 2 green peppers, dry spices to personal taste as well as hot sauce like Tobasco, etc. Hot peppers to taste as well. I used to do the insane heat, but due to age, had to tone it done a bit.
    Again, many thanks for the videos.

Have a lot more flexibility with it, you just lose the extended zoom feature. The Virginia Woods was what you'd expect from McClelland, really too bad then closed down operations. The time lapse feature is so easy to use, expect to see more of them upcoming. Thanks again and keep that family safe during these troubling times.

    Another great video! Thanks for sharing. You're right about the turkeys here in PA this year. So far they have been pretty quiet off the roost. Luckily I was able to get one tag filled on the 3rd day of the season. Around 9:45am I was walking slowly through some hardwoods and I can see out ahead I had a big tom with two hens 197 yards out in a field. If I called every few minutes, he would respond. It took about 45 minutes but I was able to make then hens curious enough to head my way. He came in behind them, full strut the whole way right to my decoy at 12 yards. He ended up weighing 29 pounds and had about a 9 inch beard. I'm headed to camp next week to try and fill my 2nd tag on a Allegheny National Forest bird.

    As looking back at this video again and to your issue with the metal roof overhang, perhaps you can just extend the fascia below with a 2x (4,6,8) then just add the gutter on top of that. Might be easier than cutting the metal from the roof,

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the info, got a lot of ideas on how to fix it. I also got a lot of comments that say if the gutter sticks out too far when the snow/ice starts to slide down it will damage/pull the gutter off. When I was up there for Deer Season, the cabin across the street had that exact issue. So besides the snow guards I think I will leave it be. Thanks again!

    Tom, currently at our cabin “The Hideaway”. Saw the video post and said well, wait for the evening to enjoy it. As always it is pleasure to have you bring us along on these trips to your cabin. I’ve got the metal roof we put on about 10 years ago and it’s been phenomenal with snow and the hard winters Maine throws at it. So far no luck with Turkeys but I almost had a good opportunity on Saturday. Back at it tomorrow, last day before leaving on Tuesday. Great food as always, just love these videos. Sean did a great job with the drone videos too. Something else I’d like to learn. My wife’s gonna try the 333 venison....sounds delicious and we love our chili! Gonna try the bourbon you enjoyed. This trips been a combo of Gentlemen’s Jack or Jamieson....I like them both. Have you tried “All Day IPA” ? Got a 12 pack for this trip and it’s actually pretty good. I think I’ll save the peanut butter ale for ice cream! Talk to you soon! Great job on another great video! Oh, I’m guessing and elk trip is in order....question is....is it Muzzleloader or rifle?

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  4 роки тому

      Thanks Tim, good luck on the turkey today, maybe you've already bagged one by now. You will be surprised that the taste of the 333, it's all it's own, very good, I'm sure you two will enjoy it. Plus there's plenty left to put in the freezer.
      I've had the All Day IPA, it is on par with Dogfish 60 I think, both have a great taste. I normally get them in the "Stovepipe" 19oz cans. A few of them and I'm set.
