Probably because Idina has a lower voice. Apparently she’s alto but just forces her voice to do things like this. If Jackie is a Soprano, that’s probably why.
It's a matter of technique. Jackie has great technique; Idina's is terrible. She carries her chest voice way too high and always has a ton of tension. It makes her voice sound heavier, because it is...she holds onto too much weight when she shouldn't. It's precisely why she's done so much damage to her voice over the years, and often sounds absolutely terrible live.
@@carr0760 agreed. I sing, and this is the struggle for me at the moment - honestly - how does one know when they carry their chest voice too high? I'm told that I'm doing it, too, and it's a tough habit to break.
@@karentrachtenberg3922 quite simply, you can feel it. Local technique is all about feel because it's all internal. As a voice teacher, I can't show my students what to do like I can with piano or another instrument. I can only tell them and help them learn what everything feels like so that They can recognise it themselves.
one of the very few times i have gotten emotional during a show. i saw jackie in this show in toronto. i went to the stage door after the show and anthony rapp and jackie burns were the only people who came out. i met anthony several years earlier when i saw rent in toronto but the stage door was a mob that day and he wasnt taking pics with people. i was going to ask for a pic when i met him at the if/then stage door but he seemed to be in a hurry he did sign 2 things for me though. jackie on the otherhand was so nice my friend and i were the only people at the stage door so jackie actually stopped and chatted for about 10 mins and i got a pic with her.i also saw her in wicked in toronto a few years previous but didnt get to meet her then because it was pouring rain that day and i didnt want to wait at the stage door.
@@VanessaDMusic no, it didn't, and no, she isn't. If her technique wasn't bad, she wouldn't have had an obvious decline in her vocal quality over the course of her career. She also wouldn't regularly give terrible live performances. The level of tension she sings with is atrocious.
I personally think this song fits idina better with her vocal and acting style. Jackie is amazing don’t get me wrong, but her voice just sounded out of place to me imo
Jackie OWNED this performance on the tour.
This song is so under rated . It would fit right in with the plot of next to normal though
I love idina but this version is refreshing and voice sounds so light

Okay that's the best version of this song I've seen
Come on and SLAY
The performance was amazing but I have one question: why is her outfit a different color than idinas in this scene?
She can sing circles around Idina
to that person who disliked this, who hurt you?
I prefer this version than Idinas 🤭
She just screwed up the lyrics! But other than that she was amazing!
Idina is so much more raw and emotional! But the singing here is amazing!
She is better than Idina, she isnt shouting like idina
Mmmmmmm no, honestly i prefer the Idina's version, this is not a bad version, she sings very well but Idina has a different voice that's why I like it
You prefer yelling with terrible technique? How sad for you...
@@carr0760 😂😂😂🤷🏽♀️
@@carr0760 idina’s technique drastically improved in her if/then run and it shows💀💀she’s the better singer

Same...I mean come on, when Idina portrayed a role through her acting skills, no one can beat her emotions she's putting this..
