Thanks for all your videos. You have taught me a lot. I really appreciate the way you go from showing one specific thing and then show how to use it in a broader context. So here, the broader context is making the custom menu. That has really increased my understanding of how to use all of what Reaper is capable of.
Great info Kenny. Thanks! Unfortunately, now that I saw this, I have to go through every song I have previously recorded and mixed and fix things. Hope it rains this weekend!
Interesting. Ive never done it this way, but I always use the create 4 points action. I've got to study what youre doing. Is the advantage that you are using the slider instead of the mouse directly on the envelope?
Please tell me, is the time selection only for visualization, and the start and stop of automation is done with the "play" key? And how to make the cursor always be at the beginning of the selection like you have?
Good question, I have the same problem that after the time selection it keeps on writing, also the cursor does not start at the beginning of the selection...
I found it: ua-cam.com/video/eDPVzM4X-EA/v-deo.html for the cursor to start at the beginning of the selection And in preferences in the tab Audio Playback you can select the second tick "Stop playback at end of loop if repeat is disabled
@@harrycompier6496 I have added a button to the toolbar. She starts the action: "Toggle stop playback at end of loop if repeat is disabled." This action stops playback at the end of the selection. Turns the checkbox on and off in the menu.
In my former DAW, the automation line was over the media, but editing the automation affected the waveform graphics as well (higher volume automation made the waveform grow and visa versa). Is there such a mode in Reaper?
Yes, you can use item automation or use track automation (pre-fx), they both change the waveform graphic. If you don't see the waveform changing that means it's not enabled in the preferences (i think it's on by default)
Am I missing something with the time selection? When I do this it writes from cursor start to end and ignores the time selection. Thanks for these great tutorials
One thing I don't get though : what is the need of using time selection? Automations recording don't seem to conform to Recording modes preferences (like auto punch in/out). (That would be great!)
@@Tokolele that was initially my bewilderment as well it's needed to make the playback stop at the end of the time selection but only because it's linked to loop points (Repeat is Off in the transport), if it's not, loop points will have to be used instead of the time selection
Do folks prefer this method to control volume as opposed to splitting and changing the item volume (e.g. clip gain)? The former retains the recorded volume, and the latter changes the post plugin/fader volume. If the performance is highly dynamic, it could impact compression depending on how much signal is hitting the compressor. Probably no wrong way.
Yo yo. I am interested in quick and easy automation for 3d panning. I used pro tools write and glide through key frames and that was awesome, is there aything like this in reaper?
I don't mean to complain about the presentation, but the process just looks off-putting. I'm just getting into automation and I have the impression that Reaper is not exactly trying to make this easy or intuitive for me. I know there are other ways than this, but I have yet to find a workflow that does not make me never want to do this again. Maybe I just need practice, but still, a little less mandatory menu diving and fewer confusing options would be nice for automation in Reaper.

Kenny you are on a roll with these Automation videos. Thanks as always for all the helpful videos.
Thank you for these videos. I learn something new with every video.
This is so great for workflow. Thanks as always kenny!
Thank you for another brilliant tutorial, Kenny! This is so good to know.

Don't say that. I have a softball tournament this weekend. LOL
Hi, how can I have the mixer tab beside the track? And at 2:12, what key did you press for the automation tab to show up? Thanks!
He just would have a key command to bring up that toolbar ( which he would have made)

Correct.
That's a big time-saver, thank you Kenny!
Hey Kenny! In this case, isn't more usefull select pre effect (or fader?) volume to see the wave changing and get more visual information?
BTW, great video as usual! Thanks for your content
But then you can't write with the fader.
@@REAPERMania well, I guess I did not know that haha That's why you are the expert, thanks for the answer
@@KarfelO1 Thanks for the question. To be fair, I did have to double check.

Same with me. i don't know how it's only playing the selection?

thankyou very much, reaper must paid you for this all :D

I thought this was punch in automation. Any one know if it's posible to do that?
