This was the second of the "neo-core" sets, and they were dialing the board complexity of Limited _way_ back after the ridiculousness of Lorwyn block. It would take them a while longer to realize that reducing board complexity can be done without filling sets with bland cards.
Are you actually telling me there is a middleground between „every card is on on board trick holy shit watch out“ and „vanilla wrestling match“? Inconceivable!!
Nether Horror was featured in the MTG episode of Commodore Hustle. James casts Chandra’s Outrage on Graham’s Nether Horror. Kathleen interrupts to tell them that the line to the convention event is moving but Matt hushes her so that they can keep playing.
I always heard it as "nether Whore", but looking back now I realise that they probably wouldn't allow that on a magic card, and if they did LRR probably wouldn't put it in an episode.
This was the first Magic set I bought boosters for. Lovely and nostalgic, though also makes me suddenly realise I've been playing Magic for over ten years now...
Well that's great, I am playing since 2005 and I am glad to see I still have friends playing with me, people tends to lose all hobbies with time, you should be glad you still enjoy things
As a person who first opened 7th edition, I feel you. I remember playing back in middle school! But still feels awesome to think something kept my interest this long.
Ah, M11's Lava Axe. Takes me back to the halcyon days of first learning to play Magic in middle school. I didn't understand why more people didn't think my deck that was just Flame Servant, Lava Axe, Lightning Bolt, and Fireball was the coolest thing ever because on paper in my head it was perfect
FWIW sometimes I watch stuff as sheer addiction/coping mechanism, in an escapism manner vaguely similar to alcohol or worse drugs. And the concept of "you don't have to" is only half the story. A harsh truth is that sometimes the world isn't providing other support for your issues, even despite self-effort to crawl out. So, that's why I watch a lot of internet content.
I love these videos. Graham is such a friendly, funny and calming presence and I'm always willing to take 10 minutes just to listen to him crack a pack and talk about the cards within.
These videos are so engaging and I love the nice break from the daily grind to watch someone rad open a pack of Magic cards and chat about 'em! Slightly unrelated, but those live LRR MTG streams from Magic Fests in 2019 were rad, and I really hope we get back to seeing those when it's safe to do so.
Oh god, thank you for releasing me from this eternal torment of forcing myself to watch crack-a-pack, i absolutely despise it. (jk love you graham please keep making these.)
Graham dude. We love this video format. You are so excellent at an entertainer. Might be also cool to have guests one at a time to discuss, but then again simply watching you open packs and discuss is awesome. Keep it up! Would love to see a cube of all these crack a pack cards
The crack a pack is always great even when the cards are lackluster, and I've learned about some useful and cool cards from way, way before my MTG time. Thanks for doing them! I think you may be slightly hoist on your own petard with this particular video, though, because before I started watching all your GVlogs and learning about vlogging and editing, I would not have even noticed the little mic issue. :D
Yay Relentless Rats! I had a Relentless Rats deck back in the day. Sure, I could only play it against any given opponent once, but that one time was HILARIOUS.
I was hoping for a Lightning Bolt in one of the common slots. Instead all we got were crappy creatures and other assorted mediocrity. Underwhelming pack, still a wonderful experience watching you open packs twice a week.
This era of magic was my childhood and the majority of my time physically playing it. It may be why I associate core sets as literally the worst option you can buy. An attitude that persists to this day as I have never purchased a core set pack on Arena.
I remember M10 being a huge deal because for the first time since Alpha, a Core Set would contain new cards and not just reprints! Of course, this is from a year later, but still!
My first event was the M11 pre release, which was after the Rise of Eldrazi event a few months before. At my lgs during the RoE, a bunch of players had cheated and took a bunch of powerful cards like Lighthouse Chronologist and slipped them into their pools and would have like 3 or 4 of them. So the lgs made us open our packs and write down the rares and mythics, put them and the paper in a paper bag and pass them back to the clerks who then redistributed those bags. WHICH SUCKED BECAUSE MY ORIGINAL PACKS HAD PRIMEVAL TITAN AND GARRUK. Ugh I was so mad. My buddy however got a pool of TWO baneslayers and a decent amount of white to bzck up using them
At this point primetime was close to a $60 card and Garruk wss fairly expensive as well and I was very sad because at that point I was already very into green even though I had begun playing only a short time before (during Zendikar/Worldwake)
@@ymmijx6061 I don't really agree. Use it on your final turn to shut down interlopers. Use it as a response on an enemies turn and they are forced to use the mana on instants now, or be silenced on their own turn. Sure, you need to get prio before you can cast it, but it's not like people play around you having a silence on hand.
@@Vallinen92 no, like, it's been in standard at least twice. we KNOW how it plays(we being people who played back then). it's only every seen some success as combo protection and in a somewhat jank eternal deck that plays it on isochron scepter to soft lock your opponent.
As core sets of the time go, M11 is actually pretty stacked with power. In addition to the titan cycle, you have some really strong cards like Lightning Bolt and Preordain. Having played formats like Choose Your Own Standard a number of times, where you get to pick a certain number of expansions, M11 is a common choice for your core set. Sadly, this pack was pretty bland.
Don't you want Silence so you can just cast it in response to casting other more important stuff just so it can't be countered? I thought that was the intention for that spell.

Gwendlyn Di Corci.

"Somebody edited this." - Graham admitting defeat in predicting the editor.
I don’t know why getting called Relentlessly Rats hurt a bit more than any of the other greetings.
I took it as a compliment
Because if there could be any number of you in a deck then you are not special.
I love this content. It's the right balance of Graham ramble and magic cards. Always makes me laugh. Keep 'em coming!
I don't believe Graham is a necromancer, but I could totally buy Kathleen as one and Graham having to defend his wife's life choices

This is a great series. A thousand times better than the over-hand camera pack opening videos.
I AM a relentless rat. Thanks graham for my new daily affirmation
The Zombie-Necro bit had me laughing hard and 5:00 almost had me hit the floor :D
Old core sets got me into magic. New core sets keep me coming back
Has anyone noticed the audio being a bit choppy,/not as clear as they used to be?

Had a great time. Thanks Graham.

As we all know, one of the most terrifying properties of zombies is their cavalier attitude toward getting mud on their shoes.

This is nostalgia for me… idk why, I mean I started playing in Core Set 2012/2013ish so maybe that’s why
I'm a little disappointed the music didn't cut out when Graham said "SILENCE!"

can you imagine if they had said “and Relentless Rats” on the beginner tips? so many new players would try to build relentless ears decks
i have a lot of fun watching this!
I've noticed that this and the previous video had some audio peaking issues, is this going to get remedied in coming episodes?
So much fun watching these!
I was hoping for a Lightning Bolt in one of the common slots. Instead all we got were crappy creatures and other assorted mediocrity. Underwhelming pack, still a wonderful experience watching you open packs twice a week.
Innistrad midnight hunt seems geared towards constricted, core set 2011 seems geared towards limited
Or even cards like Squadron Hawk, Mana Leak, Preordain, Viscera Seer, Pyretic Ritual or Cultivate. For a core set, it had some pretty dope commons.
hi emily
I definitely have fun watching this.
So nostalgic, that was my first set.
Look at all that amazing hair!! And you're always fun to listen too, as well.
Prodigal Pyromancer is going straight In to my Vrondiss deck

Silence not worthwhile? As an instant, it seems pretty powerful.
