Taylor Clark My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Your uncle was a part of my childhood! May he rest in love and wonderful dance. Blessings.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Taylor. Watching your uncle on TGS never failed to put a smile on my face. He was the life of the party and had some serious dance moves. Sending warm thoughts and good vibes to you and yours.
Gene Gene was a big time hit in our family. The gong-show was on every week and we enjoyed it. But when Gene Gene came on we all went nutz and started dancing, singing and having a good time. Thanks Gene for great memories you'll be missed by all of us.
This is my favorite segment of any show in the history of television. It's completely out of the blue, it makes no sense, but it's marvelous. Who thought of that? "How about in the middle of the whole show, we have some guy come out and dance for like two minutes to fill up time." So great. I want to hug this man.
You legit wrote every word I was thinking while I watched this clip!!! The 70's were a wild decade, I am so glad I got to be a part of it and now looking back, everything is even cooler than I remembered it to be!! Gene Gene the Dancing Machine made the room erupt in joy every time he came on, what a legend ❣
Another part of my youth has passed. Loved The Gong Show. Barris and of course "Icon Gene Gene The Dancing Machine". Everyone who was old enough always waited for "the music" which meant we'd see the best part of the show. Gene Gene may you R.I.P. Big Guy.
I was maybe 7 years old or so when Gene Gene was on. Nothing made me spontaneously flail about the living room more than him...and that song. RIP Gene.
I always used to get up and dance with Gene Gene back as a kid; I still have the moves he taught me! Rest in peace Gene; you brought much enjoyment and smiles to many people.
This brings back a flood of happy memories of watching The Gong Show with my family. Gene was one of our favorites. Rest in peace, and thanks for the entertainment.
This vid always brightens my day. Loved Gene, Gene and Chuck too. Sorry he is gone but he will live forever in this video. Loved the Gong Show too. It was stupid.....but I loved it.
the gong show was my favorite when i was 5!! the music used to send me into a frenzy... running around the house, throwing the cushions off the couch. i would spaz out. my parents got sick of it so they lied to me and told me the gong show was taken off the air! when i was 15 i found out they lied. bastards!!
I show my kids the highlight of Gene Gene the dancing machine and they love it, now if only the 2017 Gong Show would have another Gene Gene the dancing machine in his honor would be great.
I have thought of this sketch my whole life. Every few years I would after the internet and then YT came on line, I would watch these every now and then. This was a great sketch and will never be forgotten as long as I live. When we have family get togethers and we start clowning around with dance moves, I would yell out "Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine!" I just saw that he passed in 2006 and here it is 2021. I hope he knew what an impact he had on TV history. Classic.
The best part of the show....pure unadulterated JOY....manic bliss....I loved Gene Gene the dancing Machine. When I was a kid I totally grooved on Gene. This was great television back then.
Gene was a stage hand that would dance around whenever the show was running short. He was the reason I watched the show! Just he case he came out to dance
Gene, we're happy to hear that your stolen wheelchair was replaced. Thanks for the great memories of the Gong show and your contribution. We wish you the best of health in the future! From an Altadena neighbor.
I’ve been visiting NY in spring 1978 from Greece. My cousin was watching this show and he knew Gene Gene ! I was so much impressed that I remember him all these years! So I decided to search him on You Tube and there it is!! In fact I typed Jin Jin the dancing machine 😂
He was so cool. Made a name for himself having fun.

Gene Gene The Dancing machine, rest in peace, truly blessed to work in those days, TV was so much fun, thanks for the memories as a kid watching and wanting to be there with you, rest my friend...
I remember my retired WW II vet father getting a kick out of Gene the dancing machine, and the bordering on X rated (now PG 13 by today’s standards) Jaye P Morgan. That was family entertainment back in the day. A crazy hyper talent show that brought us singer Cheryl Lynn, later famous for “Got to Be Real”, and the Unknown Comic. But we all watched for Gene. Great times; good times. Thank you Gene and family!
I'm here because I named my cat Gene after my late uncle but my grandma always calls my cat gene gene the dancing machine and I've always wondered why and one day show told me to look it up. I got to say I'm not disappointed I even started humming the beat to call him and he will actually come. Just thought I'd share
This show always made me smile and I can never hear the name Gene without thinking of him. Every time I hear the name, it just makes me smile so much. What a wonderful legacy!
If it wasn't for this show right here none of these shows today wouldn't have existed. So thank you Gong Show for putting these shows today on the air.
Oh man I love Gene & his sick dance moves. I do have to note that Jaye P Morgan was easy on the eyes. Wow! That lecherous old man won’t leave her alone lol
The segue way from “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” to “One O’Clock Jump” was a word of genius. These were both Count Basie numbers but the Count never mashed them together.
He was a joy to watch. The fun he brought made us get happy feet. Wonderful memories for us all, so came by to see him again. My dad loved this guy. Great footwork! He's still dancing in our hearts and mind.
AH!!!! The fond memories of Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine. I swear, SOMEONE needs to show all the Gong Show episodes again, in their entirety. I remain amazed at the stuff that got on the air in the 70s that would NEVER get on now..... (sigh).
Growing up in roseland Illinois from 1972 to 1979 I remember sitting in the den with both my parents watching the gong show, the 3 stooges, and Sanford and son those were truly great times and memories I remember it like it were yesterday we lived on Princeton Street
Gene! Gene! The Dancing Machine! Sometimes, when I am in pain and feel depressed, I just key his nickname into YoutTube, just so I can feel better.RIP, dear man.
I'm so sorry to hear that he is gone. I didn't know until I saw that Chuck Barris passed away yesterday, Mar. 21, 2017, and searched them up. Rest In Peace. Gene Gene is dancing in Heaven and Chuck is hosting a new show Gong Show.
I was visiting the NBC studios about 6 years after the Gong Show went off the air. As we were touring, I walked by this guy in the hallway and said "I know that guy from somewhere." After we left, I figured out it was Gene Gene the dancing machine!
It was hilarious and a remake would do the world a lot of good, LOL. You know how the funniest and best part of those "you've got talent" kinda show are the tryouts? It's like that 90% of the time on the Gong Show.
Growing up watching Gene Gene the dancing machine holds wonderful memories. He reminded me so much of my dad and it was wonderful! RIP, your work is done.

One of the greatest shows of all time.

Never missed that show during my troubled teenage years. Only thing that kept me from losing it ... ;)
Hope you're doing good.

I often/always wondered
what would've happened if someone hit the GONG whilst he was on ? 🤔
I’ve been visiting NY in spring 1978 from Greece. My cousin was watching this show and he knew Gene Gene ! I was so much impressed that I remember him all these years! So I decided to search him on You Tube and there it is!! In fact I typed Jin Jin the dancing machine 😂

I will never understand that when the best part of the dance would come out they would always cut away from Gene to Chuck and the Judges.
This show always made me smile and I can never hear the name Gene without thinking of him. Every time I hear the name, it just makes me smile so much. What a wonderful legacy!
Joey Diaz brought me here lol .. and he didn’t disappoint

Enjoying this from my childhood here in 2024. I know he is somewhere dancing. Need more fun times like this that put a smile on your face.
The song is called One O'Clock Jump
Jumping at the woodside
Tom Strauss It's Count Basie's 'Jumpin' at the Woodside'.
Now THIS is the highest and best use of the internet. Gene Gene will forever live I my heart. ❤
This is worth more of my time than the debates. Not even joking a little.
Gene Gene rocks, man! My brother, sister and I used to turn up the volume and dance along. So much fun!!
Yo, someone needs to do 10hrs of this !
If it wasn't for this show right here none of these shows today wouldn't have existed. So thank you Gong Show for putting these shows today on the air.
This show blew the lid off that crapola known as American Idol.
Oh man I love Gene & his sick dance moves. I do have to note that Jaye P Morgan was easy on the eyes. Wow! That lecherous old man won’t leave her alone lol
Gene's now teaching the angels his dance moves. Curious if he was introduced to them with _"It's Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine"_! ツ
ONLY if he was a Christian before he passed away. Otherwise, he will never dance again.
Steven Scott 😄😄😄
The segue way from “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” to “One O’Clock Jump” was a word of genius. These were both Count Basie numbers but the Count never mashed them together.

It may be cliche, but they definitely don't make shows like this any more!
+vccstudents ~> Gong Show is from a long gone era of fun to watch daytime TV before the era of Springeresque sleaze and Oprahesque male-bashing. ☺
Yes they do,its back on!
I watched this as a kid with my parents all the time... We need a new Gong Show!
RIP Gene Gene :(
God I loved that show! I would come home from school and it would be on at 4 o clock every day. It was GREAT!
Corey Holcomb just mentioned this on his live tonight
In all my life. With all my knowledge. I still can not think of anything cooler than this.... To me it was the best moment on TV.
RIP dancing machine
