If it wasn't for the ruthless vision of the original Uber founder and his persistent attitude to just keep pushing forward, Uber would not be the company it is today. So credit to him......the current CEO is great but he's not the founder period.
Travis became that way because of the first 2 companies he ever founded the first one was sued by the music business for billions which made them go bankrupt and the second was an attempt to make those who wronged him the first time become his customers it worked but it took an awful long time for it to do but in the end he became a millionaire, the way I view his time at Uber is that he realized early on that what he had was a once in a generation company, fixing a problem that we all dealt with on a daily basis, and he had stumbled upon the perfect solution, but what he faced was the same billion dollar industry, this time the taxi industry, that was against any type of innovation and was in the business of milking their customers as much as possible. You might say he went overboard and I wouldn't excuse him from the culture Uber had back then and misogynistic workplace they had developed, because let's be honest that was the final nail in the coffin for him, at the same time he had taken a little known startup that most people thought would fail into a 69 billion dollar juggernaut that was integral to everyone's lives and became a verb and potentially was going to become known in the same breath as the FAANGs
Yeah, they needed someone to make an example of. Not saying what he did is okay but they went full-on nukes to him and have let other people walk away.
If I'm not mistaken, he actually gave the medication to people who couldn't afford it (or at least gave them a substantial discount mirroring that which you would usually get).
