Thank you so much for the tip! Our trailer went from smelling horrible to smelling fresh with one treatment of your "cocktail"! We had to make one change to the recipe, replacing the ammonia with glass cleaner, as pure ammonia is no longer sold in Canada. We also learned that the grey tank was to blame for the stench - Never thought this could happen. Thank you again! 😀
The kitty litter is a great idea. Not only will it smell nice (as long as it isn't visited by any cats...) but it is also absorbs moisture from the air which will prevent mold and mildew. Great tip! And much cheaper than the Damp-Rid bags....
Hi! Merry Christmas!! I subscribed to your channel after seeing on Duet Justus' vlog. My husband and I dream of having our own rig and being weekend warrior's one day too! We are aiming to get one within 2 years. Till then we are learning from you guys who are sharing your experiences with all of us. God bless you and thank you for helping us learn and enjoy the journey with you!!
Linda, thank you so much for subscribing and keep that dream alive! It took me a long time before I pulled the trigger, but I'm glad I did! You and your husband have a happy and safe New Year's!
Tim, thanks for subscribing it really does mean a lot! The "Cocktail" ingredients are a little odd but it works... or at least it has for me. I've got some more big stuff coming in 2017 I hope you enjoy the content and have a happy and safe holiday season! :)
I'm converting a Shuttle bus into an RV, and I just bought a Thetford Casette toilet. Your tip will save me $ and I'm going to try it TODAY. Thanks for sharing, Jedeye ! Happy travels.
@@RVJedeye I appreciate your kind words and support ! I've been using your "Jedeye method" in my Thetford ( fluids only), for over a week now and my Casette smells clean / frrressshhh. You're a genius Jed !! Your easy method will save me about $100.00 per year. 👍😀 See you in your next video. Happy and safe travels to you and yours. ✌️
Howdy, David!! Your suggestions for keeping an RV fresh-smelling are spot on... For NON-full-timers, that is! ;) If the mixture is going to be dumped every week, there's probably no harm/no foul. The problem for me, specifically with your "cocktail," is that the ammonia & pine cleaner would probably kill all the bacteria in the bottom of your tank... Even the "friendly" bacteria that's necessary to break down the ...uh... organic solids which pass through there. There are many, MANY tank treatments available that are much less toxic - for both you and the environment - much more effective in maintaining the balance necessary to keep things flowing and just as fresh-smelling as your mixture. Also: The ammonia/pine combo could adversely affect any sensors in the tanks. FYI. Watch your tail swing, keep th' greasy side down and keep it 'tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen th' ditches, Y'All!! ;)
John thanks for the heads up! You are right, mine is based on using it pretty regularly. I will look into long term options as well, especially if I ever get in a place where I have to store it for awhile! Thanks so much for the info.
So the materials are, 1. 8oz of baking soda in its own container 2. 8 oz of ammonia in its own container (or glass cleaner as I saw in Carlos' Honest Opinions comment) then add to the baking soda. 3. 8oz of fabric softener in own container, then add to the baking soda and ammonia. 4. 8 oz of a pine sol like product (pine glo) in its own container and then mix with other products. 5. After everything is mixed in well, add water. Use warm water first then cold, stir very well. 6. P O U R it in ! I'll shall try this ! Thank you ! 😁
I only use my travel trailer several times a year. It and my boat are stored in a storage yard. I bought my TT new in 2013 and have never had an odor issue while in storage. While in use is another story! LOL! My sinks and shower have "P" traps in them so that pretty much takes care of any odor problems inside of the trailer. My black tank has never caused any odors while in storage. I do check on my TT and boat every so often, especially for any water leaks on the TT roof. Before putting my TT is storage, I make sure I flush out the fresh, grey (gray?) and black tanks completely.
@@RVJedeye The pouches can be reactivated every month or so by putting them in the sun for a couple hours. They're good for a couple years and then can be added to garden or potting soil to enrich it.
Thanks for posting. Kitty litter works great but charcoal will also work. For really strong odors, coffee works good. I just leave some cheap brand coffee in an open container.
Just an FYI - kitty litter helps pull moisture so it helps with the 'dank' 'musty' smells. I actually keep a small box in my bathrooms at home for that reason. You know how steamy things can get, it really helps.
Roger thanks for subscribing it does really mean a lot! I'm not quite full time yet, but it's going in that direction. Love the lifestyle and one day I can see how cool it will be to do it all of the time.:)

Being a bartender, your "Cocktail" recipe was great! Many of the Thetford products just don't seem to work for long periods of time...this seems like a winner 👍👍! The kitty litter idea makes a lot of sense too (btw, love the Mos Eisley tshirt)! 🖖🏻
Great tips Traveling to all the National parks last year, I️ wish I️ had this for the smell in those really hot weather states. Adding even just a little of this each time would be awesome from campground to campground

@@RVJedeye do u have any tips or products I can use for my toilet almost filling up . I can’t go to the dump station till tomorrow evening and yeah I tried hot water, but it just went down a little bit and I don’t want to keep adding water cus it will just fill to the top lol
Good tips! One that has worked for me, before leaving a camp ground, and after emptying the black tank, is to use laundry detergent with some water, sometimes ice blocks. Then after the drive to the next camp ground, I flush the black tank once again and it keeps the tank cleaner than just continually using it. The road movement turns it into a washing machine...lol. I'm going to try RV Jedeye's concoction for short term storage next time.
I have been using the Geo Method for years. 1 cup water softener (calgon) 1 cup cheap laundry soap then add 1 gallon of water. I mix up the powder ingredients in a bucket and one batch lasts about a year. It works great and I have spare laundry soap in a pinch. Mixing ammonia and pinesol is an asthma attack waiting to happen.
The kitty litter is new to me as a air freshner, but it does make sense to pull moisture and possible mold smells out of a unit. I am not a fan of pine sole..but appreciate the recommendation to store the RV clean.

Calgon (water softener) and laundry detergent (about 1/4 c of each) in both gray and black tank. Fill tanks half way and drive around for a few miles so it can swish around. Then go to a dump station when it is not busy and really flush it good. Sounds like you have a Mt St Helen that is stuck in there. They say TP can harden like cement. Always use RV toilet paper...nothing else.

Thanks for the video buddy nice job, quick question how do I get rid of Oder if I have no vents on top of trailer? I’ve tryed everything, laundery detergent baking soda vinegar,I even let the tank fill up as much as it could and even bought that wand you attach to hose HELP ME !!!!!!!!! Lol
Mark Casillas We have a 30 foot Bullet trailer. We shock the tank with 1/2 cup bleach and put that in a 5 gallon bucket then add warm water. Pour the whole thing into the toilet and into the black tank for 30 minutes. Knocks the bacteria down greatly. We then fill the tank with the toilet and flush it after it’s full. When we re-prep the tank we use liquid tank treatment, cup of softener, cup of laundry liquid soup in 5 gallon bucket and fill with warm water. I’d also fill and flush your tank several times. Make sure you don’t have a lot of sludge and debris in the tank. I’ve heard of someone also adding lots of ice on trips. Ice starts to melt and while driving it sloshes around and works on the debris in the tank. When you arrive, fill the tank and flush a couple times or until it appears relatively clean. Happy travels!
Have you tried happy camper toilet chemical. We use it and never have any odor. The key is to never poo in you camper and never put any paper products in the black tank. Utilize the bath houses at the camp grounds. When boondocking use a simple bucket composting toilet.
@@hardtruth2039 Why get an RV? Using your 'own' toilet' is probably the biggest reason people get RV's and not tents. Proper sanitation and dumping, deodorizing are key. Then you have BM's a plenty without worry.
With all my years of camping I have never had a "smell" issue so I really cannot relate on any level! The only thing I ever did once we were "winterized" was to take a fresh box of fabric softener sheets in our favorite scent and toss sheets all over the place from front to back, side to side! I was once told that rodents didn't like the smell and will tell you with the exception of one year where we locked a chippy in, we never had a problem! Come spring I gathered them up in a plastic bag, hung it next to the dryer at home and used them up! No mixing, no hunting down assorted products, done! I guess it's whatever you are accustomed to doing!
Hi thanks cant buy your stuff in New Zealand live in rv permanently what can i buy here the pine something Im not sure and i think the pipe smells; just me and the soda? fabric softener i can get here can you shed any light on thanks
@@janebray9392 Most Freezers only go to -5 F or -18c but the weather in Southern Ontario can easily reach -40 so the freezer is not a good indicator, a hydrometer may work but I would not use this in place of anti-freeze. I use RV antifreeze and I have no odor issues in the RV after months of sitting, You could pour some of the mix into the black tank as it does not matter if 32oz of what-ever freezes in the bottom of the tank but in the drains and bowl I would use antifreeze only...
Think there would be any harm in mixing all the stuff together, just keep it in a sealed jar and then just have to add water and do the rest of the steps when ready to use?
Thanks for getting back to me. So you think it is best not to mix the 4 items in advance? I would rather just have one jar to deal with instead of taking all the other bottles with me LOL. Just want to make sure it would be "safe"

Someone said you remind them of AL Roker ! But I think if you do,it's the young version ! Not the fat old AL !! Your voice sounds professional and very Yale university ! I'm proud of you!!
Thanks... no disrespect to Al but I like me as me🤓
Nice Brother Man . . . YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Just trying 👌🏿
Great advice
Well it’s worked for me so far 👍🏿
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
This has been one of the best tips I've learned since I started RVing👍
Careful mixing chemical cleaners, sometimes you could get a reaction with extreme heat and/or noxious gases.
Really good point… thanks. I do watch out when I mix this together 😊
I agree.!! My former pastor mixed several cleaners together resulting in damage to his lungs and having to be on oxygen. He died a year later.
Great ideas, thank you so much 😊
Ron your welcome. Love share what I can😊
Worked Great. Thanks...
Sweet! 😁
Good tip although I don't thing the ammonia is good for the rubber seal... might want to check that one..
Thanks. I’ve heard that and at the same time have yet to have an issue.
Nice tips rt
Thanks! It works well for me😁
Cool thank you for your help
You are more than welcome 🤗
Could you do this before draining? Just to keep smells at bay? Could I do this weekly?
J not sure? When I arrive at a place I always use some form of treatment in the toilet. Usually Camco here is a link: www.camperid.com/search/Toilet+treatment/code-f6b43c74417466e9c2f03827b6cd6973/queryId-1320ba84b0543fd21a275c9ad3a777fb/?redirect=1
Happy travels!
johnboylong40 awsome thank you, since I’ve last messaged you out of the blue I mixed some dawnsoap and laundry detergent and so far so good thank you
Have you tried happy camper toilet chemical.
Sounds like a winner, thanks.
Glad I could help😊
Anne sounds nice! Glad it worked out 😃
What's a chippy
Lauren
Sorry Lauren! I was referring to a chipmunk!
Very COOL!! Thanks
Really works😊
Hi thanks cant buy your stuff in New Zealand live in rv permanently what can i buy here the pine something Im not sure and i think the pipe smells; just me and the soda? fabric softener i can get here can you shed any light on thanks
Well I'm not familiar with your products and stores, but I did a quick search and found "Dettol Floor Cleaner" that might work for the "Pine Sol"🤓
Try Dettol
Ya know, they sell this blue stuff specifically for this. And it workes real good. And a whole lot less trouble.
I will use some stuff when I’m at a site when I arrive but when I store it in between trips I really trust this. Thanks for the input though 😊
Great Tips.....
Thanks Mike! They worked well for me so far :)
Question... what does the ammonia do? I can understand the baking soda and pine sol but ammonia seems a bit pungent.
Not entirely sure. But it’s worked👍🏿
Sterilization
Ammonia works in the washing machine too. ( Just don't mix with chlorine bleach !! )
Ammonia also cuts through oily/fatty residue
sleepy314
It’s not a surfactant. It won’t emulsify oil and grease. Try it: add oil to ammonia and shake. None will dissolve.
Because I live in Canada I'd be interested to know if this mix freezes as we get very cold temps here.
Rhett that’s a good question I don’t know😮
Put it in the freezer🤔
I bought Happy Camper...its awesome
My freezer doesn't get to -40.
Hey David do you still use this method?? I don’t do much because I’m full time at LTVA Arizona...
Yep... still and it’s still working 😁
Think there would be any harm in mixing all the stuff together, just keep it in a sealed jar and then just have to add water and do the rest of the steps when ready to use?
Cindy you’re right... I don’t mix everything until I’m done cleaning up after a trip. Then right after I dump my tanks, then I pour in the cocktail 😊
Thanks for getting back to me. So you think it is best not to mix the 4 items in advance? I would rather just have one jar to deal with instead of taking all the other bottles with me LOL. Just want to make sure it would be "safe"
Great tips.....I subscribed. Hey I think you forgot one......always hang your butt out the window if you have to fart. You'll save 50% on kitty litter while it's parked. ................................well it will won't it? J/K.......you have to use those when they come to you. Looking forward to your videos.
I get it. :)
Fabric softener will gum your system up
Thanks for the input 👍🏿
Thanks for the info
👍🏿
Thank you for the tips!!
No problem!🤓
Will this hurt any of the rubber gaskets ??
I’ve not had any issues with any of my RVs🤓
Do you do this after you've winterized your RV? We've already winterized and was wondering if it's too late or it's OK. Thanks 😊
I always do it after I RV on a trip during warm weather as I store it in between camping. When I winterize I take it all out😊
@@RVJedeye So then not during the winter....okay thank you. I went out to buy it all today.... I'll wait till we camp again. 😆😁
Yes I would. For me, in between trips it has really worked well😁
Thanks JEDEYE for the timely tip
Always!😁 Thanks for watching
Don't forget the shower drain too:)
You are correct! I guess I didn’t say it in the video but I hit them all up! Thanks😁
Good advice
Thanks
