- A short video of how I caught the fish of a lifetime. Unfortunately I was fishing on my own and didn't have anyone to film me, but at least I had the GoPro running. Check it out!

Unbelievable!!! So much respect for how the angler so dearly wants to protect the fish. Even more respect for pointing out not to pick the fish up by its gills. One can see how easily this harms the fish. We need to preserve those specimans, particularly ones with those genes as you rightly pointed out. Pure breeding stock and a fish of a lifetime, well done champ🥂
Thanks a lot Nikita, we really appreciate the kind words. We can not emphasise the importance of releasing these big fish enough. It plays a massive role for fishing in the future!
Well done. Really liked the fact that so much effort was put into the release. Keep it up!
No release, no glory!
The fact that he says that it's his 1st steenbras and he releases such a monster *** RESPECT ***
Thanks! it means a lot to me
That is honestly one of the most epic releases I have ever seen! Much respect to the angler!
Thanks Phil!
Not that it counts for anything, but HERE is what I thought of this video :
1) *THAT* is by *FAR* the largest White Steenbras I have ever seen!
2) You are a very educated person and as an *ANGLER* I have the utmost respect for you on your *RESPONSIBLE* "CATCH-and-RELEASE"!
3) You epitomize what an eco-angler should be!
4) I wish you every success and *STYWE LYNE* in the future!
Wow thanks Homy!! It's such a pleasure receiving messages like this! Thank you for your kind words!
Stunning fish.... Well done on the effort to release that beautiful fish
Got goosebumps when the fish eventually kicked and swam away. Congrats! You sooo deserved that fish.
I still get goosebumps every time I watch the video. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Fantastic job on revival of that breeding stock. WELL DONE! Amazing job. Love it. Keep it up Gents! RESPECT!!!
Wow, that's so impressive. Huge respect to the angler. Text book catch and release. Wish we had more examples of anglers respecting the larger broodstock fish like this.
Thank you James! If everyone could do the same whenever they come across such a pristine fish, our stock will start to look better again. But for now we will try and educate as many people as possible.
Magnificent fish! They are so endangered and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your perseverance in reviving and releasing it.
Well done on the release of that fish! mad respect for you!
Thanks for releasing that beast although it was your first. Wish all anglers wouls have that mentality. Much respect!
well done on that beautiful catch and for the effort in helping the fish till the end to get back into the deep. Well done
A lot of people would have used an excuse that the fish isn’t going to make it and then they wouldn’t have released him. Well done on reviving the fish👍🏼👏🏼 stoked!
You’ve gained a new subscriber. I have so much respect for you💪🏼 Most guys would have given up on reviving the fish. You went the extra mile 👏🏼👏🏼 well done bro 🎣🎣🎣
Excellent example of an angler who understands and respects the need for preserving the breeding stock. Unselfish and responsible to the highest degree. Congrats and very well done. I hope your example teaches and motivates others to do the same. This video needs to be shared on all the social media platforms.
Thanks Roland! We really appreciate it! This fish means so much to me and not for a single second could I think of killing such an old creature! We would love if you can share this video and maybe consider subscribing to our channel! thanks for the kind words
people like you give me hope for humanity. thank you for this.
It just shows you what can be possible if more of us went the extra mile and really cared about our oceans and wildlife. I hope this will educate some people and that the next lucky angler will do the same.
Our government probably doesn't even know what conservation means, We don't have wildlife officers patrolling our beaches and our bag limits was probably last updated in 2009, They would rather enrich themselves and keep all the money they can instead of creating job opportunities in wildlife conservation, It's up to us to save our ocean, Musselcracker, Garrick and White Steenbras are red listed. Musselcracker can live up to 45 years and then they get killed in 10min, Much respect to you sir for protecting these endangered species.
You are spot on there! we are the only ones that can actually make a difference. If we all can just do their bit it would be a much better place.
Always always releases the monsters
They gonna provide future fish for us to catch plus you just gave someone the opportunity of a life time to catch that beast again (even though it isn’t likely at all but still)
Awesome release, just such a pity that "helper" had to be involved.
He was very arrogant and the sad thing is that he killed a 17kg one straight after I caught mine.

Fantastic job there. Well done!
Respect on the patience and care in the release!!!!

Tjom jy is 'n YSTER!
Baie dankie Gerhard! ek waardeer dit!
Good job 👌amazing catch and hats out to you for giving that beauty a chance to live to fight another day👏
Huge repsect for the releae well done!
Well freaking done, real big heart. Very sportsman like 💯💯💯
Amazing effort to release that fish, massive respect to the angler. That's a fish of many lifetimes, congratulations and well done. Great example for all anglers!
Thanks Eugene! It would just be disrespectful to kill such an old animal after all the pleasure it gave me!
Absolutely unbelievable video. First the amazing catch, then the dogged determination to revive that beautiful fish. I know catch/release is a growing trend, perhaps due the depletion of our once plentiful stocks, but we still need more anglers to adopt this attitude. What you did there was nothing short of heroic..
Thanks a million for your kind words Brad! We have a massive passion for our beautiful indigenous fish and will do anything to assure they are still around in the next 50 years!
@@Outdoorsmen My best was a 10kg specimen, caught forever ago, but I now feel guilty for not releasing it. If it ever happens again, I'll do the right thing...
Well done on the release, so much effort and respect given to the fish love to see it
Legend! I feel like I owe you a beer now out of respect for how you treated the fish and released it. A role model for the future generation of anglers
Thank you! I really appreciate it. It's time we wake up and take action to save our ocean. I would love to see the next generation also experience such an amazing fish.
Epic catch and amazing video. So glad to see you catch the fish of a lifetime but also release it safely! I also have a UA-cam fishing channel where I practice catch and release fishing in freshwater and saltwater as well...
Very nice video guys! I immediately subscribed to the channel. Some nice videos here for those who shared the fishing passion (fever). I like that you show the bait and setup you use. Would be great to share also rod, reel and line type as well as trace setup. Not so many videos out there.
Well done guys you are absolute gems !!
Huge effort to release the fish after the village idiot almost spoiled it by carrying it in the gills. On the audio the same guy declared the fish dead because of “fighting the strong current”. I hate it when bystanders forcibly get involved in a moment you are in control of. Patience was the winner. Gills moving and kicked away.Well done. You deserve many more💪🏻
Thank you Jacques! We appreciate it. That fish means so much to me and to know that it could still be out there swimming and breeding gives me all the satisfaction in the world!
Well worth the wait to see the release.
awesome video! that is such a monster of a fish! great effort on the release too!
Thanks a ton!
Great catch and release! 👍
Well done bud mad respect for you bro
Respect on the release, just goes to show...if you take the time to revive they almost always swim off
Great effort boet. God Bless.
Such respect for this release bru
Thanks Rob
Welgedaan! Baie respek vir jou jongman!
Baie dankie Jaco!
If only everyone took the time to revive big fish like this chap did. Mr Hook and Cook with the camera obviously no clue about handling the fish and revival thereof. Respect to angler for the release,a tip…in future warn the person landing your fish you intend to release it. So to keep their damn hands out of the gills. Bled quite a bit,but swam off decently.
Thanks for your comment. I was fishing alone when I hooked the fish and I passed my GoPro to bystanders. Throughout the fight I told him to scoop the fish with both hands and not grab it by the tail or gills. I guess his ego took over. I did my best and really hope this fish managed to recover. Still keep thinking of that fish to this day and I'm wondering if he is still patrolling our pristine coastline.
Give that man a bells
Well done buddy🙏
Respek my maat. Respek!
Unbelievable Hansen!
Dankie Janneman!
Liked an subscribed jus for that extra effort to release that beauty of a fish
Thanks for the sub!
Magical fish bro. Superb release! What area?
thanks! Garden Route bro
Legend.
Great vis
Respect much respect well done.
Goeie werk
1st video with no dislike 👍
incredible catch, well done for the release ,but that fish was bleeding quite profusely ,not sure if it wouldve survived
I guess it still had a better chance of survival than on the braai?
@@Outdoorsmen definitely, just an observation, you handled the fish with extreme care and in the best way, nothing you could do about the bleeding
@@gerardpeter8761 thanks I really tried. The fish was bleeding because of arrogant bystanders sticking their fingers in the gills after I asked him plenty of times that I'm planning to release it. The worst part of all is that they also got a 17kg fish straight after my one and they didn't think twice to kill it.
@@Outdoorsmen yes that's what I thought,,you didn't hook it in the gills, flippn fools really, you clearly and repeatedly told them not gill it and you wanted to release,, they don't even realize how old that piggy was they kept..
Nonetheless, your catch was amazing and well deserved, and thanks for sharing the vid, my biggest is 7kg hoping to go chase some ghosts next week in the EC.
Cheers mate, and keep the vids coming
@@gerardpeter8761 thanks a lot. I really appreciate it! every bit to help save our oceans and beautiful creatures in it! Good luck and go get those ghosts!
