I'm still buying sealed cases for the popular releases. But, I think the main thing I've realized is I don't even have to bother with pre-ordering anymore. Just wait until the actual release comes out and I can still pick up the cases I want at the pre-order price, if not cheaper, even for the most popular releases.
Yeah buying after release during the dip is a good way to maximize profit. Not something people had a chance of doing in the past when sets sold out in the first weekend.
One thing interesting to me is that the cases in general fared much better. I wonder how many buyers are concerned about dead boxes vs. how many people just heard Alpha Investments say "buy cases" and that's what they did. I hate to say it, but the guy creates markets. Nobody would give a crap about or even know about Sorcery if he hadn't come out behind it. One of the cautions that I would give people who want to wait until case prices drop before buying every set is that sellers will stop buying them if it means selling at a loss. Meaning fewer cases are preordered and produced. So either A. Those cases will go way up in price/value immediately, or B. The market will contract.
100% on the after release cases. rght now that seems like a strategy but eventually it should not work as seller cut back on orders. when it comes to boxes vs cases, it really is how much spending power people have and the willingness to gamble.
Market is probably saturated. A lot of TCG’s ramped up their releases in response to the pandemic boom. I could probably make the case for a long term hold, but as someone who has been holding onto RWBY, I can tell you it may take quite a while for the market to absorb all the product. If the IP expires before the excess product gets absorbed, it could be a bad position to be in. And fun video btw, enjoyed that.
the english exclusives have been the most oversaturated. they pull in such a vast amount of new people that the supply is pretty amazing. avatar seems to be the biggest. rwby did well but as u have saw just not enough since this was during the boom period.
I'm still fairly new, only being into Weiss since 2020, but even then it was pretty clear it wasn't a good idea to invest in anything modern considering everyone had the same idea as far as that's concerned. However I am happy at how cheap (for the most part) singles are!
sorry for the late reply. rares and below i know some people just put up bulk lots on the fb weiss schwarz groups or on ebay. i would just make sure the rare isnt worth a ton. some uncommons from other sets can be worth a bit. with srs, i have seen people do a bulk on those as well. however i see them more commonly sold singly.
Since more people coming in. More supply especially if it’s a popular item like HOL. An item that’s not saturated was QQM does two RR are holding 10. (Failed sadly wanted it to drop to 3 before I pull the trigger but missed it)
I’m quite new to this and was wondering is you think it’s okay to buy into the EN cards if I’m not particularly looking for investment? I love the idea of Weiss Schwarz with cards of series that I love and maybe so the game behind it. Though was wondering if buying JP is still worth more than EN? Or would it be okay to keep going with EN just to have some quirky cards?
depends on what kind of cards you are buying. the general thing we see is the higher rarity cards are more expensive than the jp ones. there are always exceptions but u can always check jp prices and availability compared to english. some people like getting jp since it is cheaper in price. the best part of collections is there are no wrong answers. if u like the jp cards for a collection, go for it. they may sell lower in price and resale may be harder but if u never plan to sell it doesn't matter then. the base rarity cards may be more expensive or less depending on set. if u play want to play and the store only allows eng then it would be better to get eng. if u have more details or questions to add on feel free.
Yep, I've finally realized this. No more pre-ordering from me even for the most popular sets that I try and focus on. Chainsaw Man will be the next set I buy a case of after release.
so youre saying i got a shot a band uniform kaguya in 2030 for the same cheap prices. that was my attempt at a joke but yes some of these will be like that a good while. bushi really put out some not good sets this year.
So is the takeaway here that investing in English WS isn’t as good an idea as investing in JP WS? Do the Japanese cards and boxes hold values better over time?
yes. when considering set to set vs blindly buying a set, anyone can be successful at weiss investing. they would still need a proper investment thesis and exit strategy.
i like the thought but that wouldnt work. that was a different period of time: before covid and after. the print sizes were different and interest in anime grew.
the only set I have cases coming in are for hololive, but thats just bc I want to rip it. As far as investing I would buy cases after prerelease since there is plenty of product to go around
At this point, I've almost completely switched over to Japanese. They get more sets, the yen's so cheap right now, and all my favorite English sets have gotten the stamp treatment. Now all that's left is for me to learn Japanese so that I can actually read the cards 😂
Way too many Sets not even talking about their tightly controled print run. Bushiroad made the same mistake Bandai did with Digimon and over pumped the market with too Many sets. but yeah that opportunity is real
It's an odd one (I did watch the whole video lol) I still think investing is weiss schwarz is tricky and fairly ineffective when compared to other tcgs. With that said why do I continue to do so? Well because I love the shows and I love the cards. I've always had a similar mindset to you in the sense that super worst case situation, if it's worthless in 10 years then I get to open a sealed case of something that quite likely could be pretty rare and enjoy it all over again. I don't invest in Weiss sealed in the traditional way of investing. I don't really see the money as XXX value, I see as spent. I have this sealed item, maybe it will be worth more down the line, maybe it won't. Maybe one day I'll decide to open maybe I will never open it. While the item is still sealed the options are always there. Maybe the cards and playsets go up for that set down the line. Anything could happen!

Like I said about Bunny on monday night I think there is a chance to make money when people come in and want to buy the sets that are long dried up. SAO, Hololive and other popular franchises probably have the best chance at it. Revue Starlight has no chance of that lol!!!
Exactly why I don't like how they do their rates to pull . It's almost set where they want you to buy a case. Fucked up. Not everyone has a 1000 bucks laying around to spend on a case. Make it truly random so you can buy boxs knowing you have a fair chance
i like the thought but it depends on the reason for the price drop. some sets dont get opened and once the cards are gone someone will have to open boxes and gacha it. unless youre saying you like the low box prices since u will be opening it.
@@BigBAnimeTCG I'll be opening the boxing so low prices are good in my favor. hololive might be interesting because of the difference between japanese oshis and western ones....Maybe i get some interesting ones cheaper than with the japanese version.

Good, treating card games purely as a stock market for children is a stupid thing to do. I enjoy flexing out my decks and playing with pretty cards, but the culture thats spawned from Alpha Investments and Whatnot types needs to be burned to the ground
