- The difficulty in attracting talent is today a reality almost across all sectors, but there are activities that, because they are perceived as old or unworthy, are going through a dramatic moment and need to be valued and promoted for their evolution and innovation. This is the case of auto mechanics, which due to the technological development of cars was also forced to enter a process of evolution and transformation. Today it is positioned as Mechatronics, uniting traditional mechanics with electronics, and is a sector where several professional are needed in Portugal with very interesting and financially well paid career opportunities. In this episode of the Mudar para Melhor series, Fátima Lopes, will wear the suit of mechanics to learn how these teams are formed and what the working conditions and professional progression in the workshops are like today. It was in the Lisbon area that Fátima Lopes hit the road to experience the daily life of the trainees at CEPRA, the vocational training center for auto repair, where she learns the art of recovering and painting an automobile in an era where the profession of auto bodyworker is far from what it was in the past, currently known as: Repair and Painting Technician. It's an area that the 17 years old Ana Duarte is passionate about and without social prejudice in relation to the profession, she is happy to venture among car plates and paints. Also Norberto Água-Mel, who lost a job in a factory, finds in this profession a new opportunity for a professional career with enthusiasm in his eyes! Elsa Cabral, born in Cape Verde, where she learned from her parents to be a locksmith since she was 15 years old, is another example of how the profession of repairing and painting bodywork is an excellent bet also for women, who have a natural talent for jobs that require greater manual sensitivity. It is with Elsa, in the Carclasse workshops, that Fátima Lopes tries to understand how these professionals are being valued. And for those who still doubt that auto mechanics is nowadays a successful career of excellence, it's worth meeting the mechatronic UA-camr Bruno Souza, who doesn't hide his pride in what he does, to the point that he has created a UA-cam channel. According to data from the Portuguese Institute for Employment and Vocational Training - IEFP - in 2021, job offers in this area of mechanics and auto repair and painting were over 1600 vacancies for a workforce of around 800 professionals. As Ricardo Simões, after-sales service director of one of the largest companies in the sector, says, it has been difficult to recruit, especially when it comes to technicians for the collision workshop, that is, in professions related to painting and bodywork repair.
