Man I can't explain how much I love your videos. Like every time. I envy going out on trips as much as you do, but its a good envy because I get to sit here and feel like I'm part of the trip from home. I can't wait to get a car. Also I admire the consciousness and care you take when you're out there. If everyone loved nature as much as you do and took the little steps to minimize their impact the world will be a better place. With these videos you have a great potential to do good and inspire others. Beautiful fish and great video as always!
🍺 Congratulations on catching your salmon. The way you rigged your rod it was only a matter of time till you caught one. The view from the spot you picked for shore lunch was perfect. Thanks for taking us for the paddle along the shores of Lake Superior. We really appreciate all the work you do for your vlogs. 🚣
We are from NW Ohio and stumbled on Pukaskwa 18-19 yrs. ago and fell in love with it. Our family has been back numerous times. IT IS ONE BEAUTIFUL PARK! Hiking is amazing. Your video makes me want to go back again.
At the 10 minute mark on the bridge was so awesome. The view from the bridge and the noise of the water was spectacular and peaceful. Maybe a little nerve racking too haha
Can I say it another way? We humans are made to live in contact with nature. And while it has been difficult for us indeed, isolating ourselves from nature isolates us from an important part of ourselves. So while you may call it spiritual, I'll call it "a whole, full life".
Bro, so happy you got your first salmon. Just watching you enjoy the moment made the entire video for me. I wish you many more in your future. Play on brother!
Look at the clarity of the water when he started cooking the salmon! Best part of the trip... rocks edge, coast of lake, wind blowing, salmon crackling in hot 🔥 oil!!! 😋😋😋
@@rbj2292 thank you :) just posted one in FB and Instagram coincidentally and I'm hoping to make a video update if I can do a little car camping soon ish
So glad you got a salmon, not even a decision about keeping it or not!, I’m drooling & jealous! Thank you for a moment of beauty and serenity in your gorgeous country, ❤️ you & loons!
So awesome. I totally know the feeling of getting skunked or missing a bunch of fish and then being gifted a wonderful chromer by nature. Glory to your house!
I love this video. You spoiled us today with a view. Felt like I was there with you too. Great quality and super sound. And all the wild life was priceless. The water was so clear and chalky. Great scenery all day and night. Plus a Salmon. Just hit the spot.
Thanks for bringing back so many wonderful memories . Awesome you caught the salmon that you were looking for. Counting down the days until I will be there!!! Can't wait!!!!
Really enjoyed this video. What a beautiful area! Fun overnight trip for sure. And that salmon! How exciting! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thank you for actually explaining the wood stove vs gas canisters/ natural gas/ propane to people! I feel like a lot of people just regurgitate what they hear our government saying about “climate change” but no one actually thinks through this logically and emotionless to fully understand the truths and nuances. It’s reshreshing to hear from a prominent UA-camr that can actually think through a problem and look at it from more than one avenue.
It's also not true that burning wood emits CO2. The wood is made from CO2 pulled out of the atmosphere by the tree as it grew. Burning it returns the CO2 to the atmosphere, so there's no net increase in emissions. Burning gas that was underground for millions of years adds new CO2 to the atmosphere.
Hello Jon and Erin. I'll be taking a week-long kayak trip on the coast of Lake Superior along Pukaskwa in a couple of weeks. I'm wondering what gear I should take for fishing. So far I have barbless hooks but I'm wondering what lures I should get and recommendations for prepping my line. Cheers and happy travels. 🍻
Wood emits the same amount of Co2 if burned or left to decompose in the woods, it only takes longer during the decomposition process. The carbon footprint is the same in the end. Factor in the production process, packaging production process and shipping process for butane and I think the footprint is much less for wood.
Great sunset, night sky, sunrise sequence and on the big lake add the salmon catch and, cook its all really fantastic. White River gorge really cool too. Hespeller made my favorite old hockey gloves. Probably way more money in brewing I'd bet 😅. Love the pace of this quick overnighter.
I worked for the construction company that built the bridge over the Big Pic River in 1980. The entrance to Pukaskwa Park. I was 20 years old and have some great memories of this beautiful area. I lived in the Everest Hotel which I now understand has burned down.
Wow, it's deja vu! In 2008, I hiked from Hattie Bay to the mouth of the Willow River and back. The bridge then was a different story. There was a piece of 2 x 6 every foot or so, with NOTHING in between except a fine mesh net below if someone dropped their camera. Totally cool. I walked back a forth a couple of times. There were two stays, one from each side that kept the bridge from swaying to flipping with a top-heavy hiker. There were none of the guardrails at the beginning either. Anyhow, it was very cool to start in this VERY Boreal forest and then by the time you got to the water there were aspens etc. Climate courtesy of the Lake. Thanks for your work. Henri (Hiking with Henri)
A few years ago we did the exact same trip as the ending to a 10 day Pukaskwa kayak trip. Went to the same little campsite, but it was too small for our group, hiked to the suspension bridge, and most of all relished the beauty of Lake Superior.
Another great video. I was on the coastal trail back in either '91 or '92 and I've got to tell you that place is bear central! I saw more bears than humans that week. You've got bears roaming the street in Marathon which is cool, but when I lived in Kelowna, you've got cougars at times on the street, and no not the 40+ year old type either and that's very uncool. Looking forward to your next wilderness adventure. 👍
Absolutely beautiful sunset, scenery and photography. I love the little squirrel, so cute. I’m glad you caught your salmon and I appreciate you thanked him. Thank you for bringing us along. Many Blessings to you and Erin.
Ahahaaa! Your joy when you caught that salmon was priceless! Looked absoluely delicious! I never go fishing or camping but sometimes I find myself wishing I did so I could have fresh fish when I wanted it. Great video and an usual fantastic photography!! Stay helathy and safe! Hugs for Erin.
about the point at 5:25, you also have to consider that the CO2 from burning wood will end up in the atmosphere anyways if the wood is let to rot. But natural gas is an addition to the natural cycle since it comes from deep underground where it won't affect anything.
Your videos are amazing. I love the fact that you do land acknowledgments of the Indigineous Nations who were stewards of the environment forever before colonialism. I know you aren't a political channel - but you give so much knowledge and joy and that recognition means a lot.
Fun trip, nothing better than a fresh Salmon meal on the shore,...Just back from some Salmon fishing in your neck of the woods, rivers were low but we still did pretty good, would love to get back up again this fall, amazing place
The importance of keeping in contact goes both ways. Got the message that my wife fell back home and was in the ambulance. Took me a while to get home, and it all turned out alright. But I feel it’s a must.
Congratulations on your salmon. I remember my first time. It’s definitely a special event. I know I often forget to mention it but, your camera work is outstanding. That sunset was incredible
Haha, what a great feeling to get your target species in the 11th hour! I just had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago at the end of a trip to the Rockies, just south of Banff. I had caught countless trout in the previous 2 weeks, even rare ones like Bull trout and Dolly Varden, but I couldn't seem to get a Cutthroat to save my life. Literally the last cast of my last day before flying back to Ontario, a juicy little 1.5lbs Cutthroat in my net 😀👍. Congrats and thanks for another awesome video!
Jon, I really love the way you take time to explain things and how you approach things. I'm finding your videos to be some of the best out there, so impressed !!! it's an absolute joy to be tagging along on your trips bro :) congrats on the salmon too (a year late, hehe)
Nice!! I saved this for monday as, although vaccinated twice, I got this madness flu, and had to be home locked for ten days. But today was my last day. Such a nice place you live at!!!
Another fantastic video! They really make my day. Being a fly fisher geez wish I could spend some time in those areas…but living in Saskatchewan such places I can only dream of. Even where I live it would be a huge undertaking to even start.
That chainlink bridge above the falls was amazing. I love when man made structures are intertwined with nature. Not too much but enough to compliment an area to allow us to enjoy it even more. I also love the idea of animals using it too. Would love to see a camera setup on it for a couple of nights and see what animals use it
Pukaskwa does have trail cams for their FB page but I don't think on the bridge...that would be awesome. Totally agree, love when they find that sweet spot of complimenting nature with human design
That was an epic sunset! I'm struggling with salmon this year too! I don't have much time to hit the water, and the days I have, have been poor conditions.
I did a 2-night backpacking trip in Pukaskwa in mid-May, 1994. The first night out I had a late start and slept under the stars on some rocks beside the trail. Crossed that suspension bridge on the second day. Next night a storm kicked up on the lake and blew my tent over. I tried cooking pancakes for breakfast but it was raining too hard; the batter was diluted to mush on the pan before it could cook. And, it was cold. We were post-holing through residual snow on the trail in many places. Between the wind and the rain and the cold, I gave up the trip at that point and I've never managed to make it back. 😞
Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread Ed Abbey Interesting to me one man inspired by rock and sun, little water. Another man inspired by water and trees, the fish in those waters. I think they could be twin sons of different mothers. Yes I borrowed those words from Dan Fogelberg. Love the pre-dawn flaming skies you captured. Very nice.
I love that you thank the animal/fish that you catch and cook. It's a noble thing to do.
Nice Salmon! such a pretty fish! loved how excited you got :D

23:44 Baird boys would be proud of that "Yeaaahh" Congrats on the catch!
Eating that fresh caught salmon almost looked like a spiritual moment. Actually, everything outdoors is very spiritual. 🦋
