For years of always being the camera op, I was first ac on a project a few days ago for an NBA promo video and I have a new found respect for focus puller, especially when the camera op is doing sporadic moves.
It’s the person who controls the cameras focus during a film. This is so the main subject whether it be a person or object is never out of focus. If you’re not familiar with cinematography in movies, the camera doesn’t just magically always stay on the subject moving. If an actor comes closer or further away from the camera then they will go out of focus. The focus puller basically monitors the cameras focus and manually adjusts the cameras lens to keep the subject always clear. Focus pullers can also do other things such as a rack focus where the focus changes from one object to another. An example of this is the camera focusing on a flower close up only to then change its focus to something in the background like a war zone. It can be used to guide the viewers eyes to what the cinematographer or director wants the audience to see and reveals things to them as well. Focus pullers are very important to filmmaking
@@joselazo6786 Absolutely not lol. And like I said, there are things such as rack focuses which you can’t achieve with an auto focus. I don’t even think most cinema cameras have the option for auto focus now that I come to think of it 😂
The most UNDERRATED job. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Respect the Focus puller!
