I intended to watch this for not more than a couple of minutes, but time just flew by like a breeze. Mesmerizing. You have given a message through this video "Whatever you do, just do it well".
I was happy to see a light oiling of the entrance pallet jewel! Many people neglect that surface. It is an area of friction, the enemy of accuracy. I also enjoyed seeing the old cap jewels. I have spent hours on hands and knees trying to find those screws after I popped them off of my tweezers into the great void.
That time machine bit was absolutely a work of genius lol especially hitting the compressor to get rid of the minion lmao 🤣 loved it. Oh, great restoration too. Respect.
Brilliant video. It encapsulates the task of restoring a watch so well, with some added humour! Excellent amplitude for a 100 year old watch that has taken quite a beating! The new mainspring helped, but also the great care in restoring the watch. Well done and Thank You!
You know the satisfaction you get when you complete a project? Well, these videos leave the viewer with the same feeling without having to put on pants.
There are still watches that are not throwaway, they're just outrageously expensive, mostly. Except for great Japanese brands like Seiko, Orient, Citizen etc. Those will work in a 100 years as well, if taken care of, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
@@MetalTrabant I wear a orient star every single day. Have a gray leather strap on it. This watch will will work an tell time long after i am gone in death. Very well made watch. An its a watch that you service when the service is needed. Only watch i own as of today.
This is the first time that I have watched a video by you and let me say - you blew my mind! Simply brilliant! The perfection of your work is highlighted even more because of no unnecessary talking - you let your work speak for itself. I also love the fact that you have restored something that is antique - to perfection. I'm so tired of seeing things that are made to last only 5 years and then thrown away. Simply amazing. You made my day. Lots of respect to you.
I want to thank you for bringing back a piece of mechanical art. Your skills both as a watchmaker and video artist are sublime. It was such a joy to see you once again displaying artisan skills.
I'm really trying to think of something that we produce today that will be worth restoring in a 100 years. That is one magnificent watch. Simple and dignified.
The time taken for the restoration, the actual work involved for polishing and fitting, the expertise required, amaze me every time I watch a restoration
Nice bit of history and a nice restoration. Just for a bit of trivia - at this time in its history, Rolex was not manufacturing many (if any) parts themselves. They were buying up parts from other manufacturers, assembling them in-house and branding them themselves, eventually Hans Wilsdorf was able to negotiate with these manufacturers and have them produce parts specifically for his company's watches. Believe it or not, It wasn't until the early 2000's that Rolex began manufacturing all of their components in-house.
That speaks for how complicated the manufacturing of mechanical watches are, it takes decades to learn the whole process, and if some one does a better job than You, just utilices it for Your own benefit.
I'm in awe of what it takes to become a watchmaker and repair professional. Understanding how all these parts work together. I can't imagine that watching an artist can be more satisfying than watching you. Thank you and keep em coming.
Very nice rescue of a tired old watch, probably the only thing that I would have preferred to do would be to replace the winder crown with a more period correct or even repair the old winder crown, that being just a personal choice, otherwise a great addition to any collection.
There's something wrong with the watch he repaired. Says 'superbalance' on the ratchet wheel but the balance isn't a 'superbalance'.. it's a bi metallic split compensated balance. The case screw didn't fix the movement into the case. I suspect he fitted a stem tube(glued in when he should have used a friction fit tube) and waterproof crown as this helped fix the movement in place rather then the case screw. I suspect this movement is from another watch case and in the past was married into the case.
I can’t believe I stumbled across this channel a year ago during the height of the pandemic without subscribing. I’m so glad UA-cam brought u back to me
