I know some people are sick of people commenting about Smash Bros., but come on, the new version of the song, that came with the Terry Bogard DLC in Smash Ultimate, is now the best version of the song, and they even managed to make the cheesy English version good.
I honestly annoyed when they mention Smash on a lot of the videos revolving around Psycho Soldier. I mean Super Smash Bros Ultimate may be a great fun game, but it's not like it's the very best game in the universe. I get that it is good, but people overpraise it to no end. I honestly just prefer 2D fighters and 3D fighters and not really into the party "fighter"s. I get that people really love it and that is their own opinion but it doesn't change that it is annoying. I didn't grow up with SNK but I did play a few of the games like a couple of King of Fighters games, Samurai Showdown, and the Japanese arcade version of Psycho Soldier. It's like people only give credit to Psycho Soldier because of Smash. Maybe they didn't know about it but these SNK games came way before the first Smash. It's like the legacy to newcomers all amounts to Smash. If people see a Guilty Gear, a Devil May Cry, or a Virtua Fighter character in Smash Ultimate, people would start referring videos referring to these IPs to Smash and that would be annoying as well.
My favorite version really is the cassette version. Kaori was the original singer for this song and on my opinion, the best one. I love her voice and I love the melody of the cassette version, it also somewhat sounds like a tokusatsu theme. I could imagine Psycho Soldier as a tokusatsu series anyway, specially with that intro saying "Psycho Soldier!" with that sound. I second version '97 as a second favorite, I like this version a lot. (Unrelated to the song, this old 80's Athena is really cute). lol

The original English version is so offbeat it's hilarious. Prior to the Smash remix I think my favorite might be KOF 94 for having a pretty cool relaxed take on the song or the cassette version for its pure 80s feel.
It was a nice touch having each remix sung by Athena’s VA at the time. Kind of wish Haruna Ikezawa had sung a version of this song. I mean she‘s been around since 1998 for Pete’s sake.
that cassette tape version is really nice. Match of the Millenium version was pretty neat as well. 97 vocal is my usual goto. can't go wrong with that one.

The best of course is the original 87 cassete version 3:20 it's more emocional and more powerful vocal, the next great one is the Neo Geo 94 version 8:49 but this is way more cheeling, the nexts versions was always more like a imitation of previous versions.
