I know the title means he regrets it for the rest of his life but the wording sounds like he regrets even being born lol

Well they actually won the team event. I think the one he regrets most was the olympics mixed doubles final against the japanese. Having won so many championships together, ut would have been the perfect ending for the Xu Xin abd Liu Shiwen

That was indeed an AWESOME match. So many ups&downs and turn arounds. Not to mention the clash of styles, penholder vs shake holder, so rare nowadays.

Yes, I must agree on this . Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes your team members covers you, sometimes they do not . In this case they did covered Xu Xin .

This loss was of no consequence for either Xu Xin or the Chinese team. I am sure he regrets his loss to Simon Gauzy at 2019 wctt much more. Xu Xin had a shot at singles gold there.

idk being top 1 of the world in the Ma Long era is big enough for you yet but you cannot deny that he has created huge inspiration all across the world throughout his career for his style of play
kinda like the Ronaldinho of Table Tennis

Tbf he’s not popular because of titles. He was just a very fun player to watch, and when Xu Xin’s played well, any guaranteed to be worth a watch for real enthusiasts of the sport. He’s like Koki Niwa, he isn’t the best performing player, but damn is he fun to watch.

Winning titles isn’t everything. Him being a penholder inspired many others, as he was the only extremely relevant penholder. And from March 2010 to April 2022 he was pretty much always in the top 10, often being in top 5 or top 3. He also had to compete with the likes of Wang Hao, Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Zhang Jike, Ma Long, and Fan Zhendong, all of which being among the greatest players in their time.
