- Isles of Sea and Sky Part 9 - there's a great powerup that only unlocks once I get nine black diamonds. Turns out that the journey to get there is much crazier than you'd expect.

For those asking, 100% currently (assumed dlc because of fog covered islands) is:
13 keys (once everything’s unlocked)
12 of each stone (earth, water, fire, wind, dark)
109 stars
So dlc is gotta be fog Islands but i saw he HAVED acuss to a fog

I have a weird feeling too that Tyler isn't always doing them the way he's supposed to. Like the game has given so many power ups at this point that there's a million possible solutions and he's just button mashing until he gets close to one. I had the same issue with Animal Well, where all the powers he had just made the puzzles easy in certain places
@@whatevername4873 Games like those are impossible to balance at some point. Once you get all the powerups, designing puzzles can be hell. In Animal well, the creator could block the players from using the disk and bubble wand by putting tons of vines all around or putting a hummingbird in the room. But if there's a hummingbird and a ton of vines in too many rooms, then it feels pointless to even have them unlocked. It's design hell where whatever you do, it will be annoying for some of the playerbase.
this game is so open with the mechanics that you arent expected to figure excatly what the original solution is

tbf the game only cares about stars for completion so the excess gems dont matter anymore
I’ve seen many people say that you need 13 of each elemental rock, maybe not for unlocks, but to 100% the resources.
@@zehph The only benefit of getting all the rocks is a steam achievement and bragging rights.

I do agree not getting all the gems just to 100% the game is worth it. I was trying to agree with zehph but that may of not been clear

I wasn't really interested during the first episode, but I'm so glad I gave this series a chance. It's turned into one of my favourites.
I felt the same when playing the game. Early game is repetitive but end game is a lot of thinking out of the box and exploring weird and interesting puzzles. Serpent Island is definitely rewarding
I love this series, from the first time that you can go through rocks, my mind is blown away
this game has been a masterclass in puzzle design that let's the player teach themselves by experiencing interactions, massive respect to the devs!
On the four elemental islands there are deities that grant powers through gems. On the snake island, however, it is YOU who floats and has their power awakened through the black diamonds. How to interpret that is up to you.
They need to add a DLC ot this game later on, this is such a great journey!
based on some of the secret paths and map layout, I think a dlc IS planned. like bottom left there's a seemingly useless secret path, but just in the clouds you can see an inaccessible island. on the big map, there's still a ton of unused space in the corners. even if it wasn't planned, they have a great groundwork for a damn good dlc
there is stuff left unfinished because of irl issues they had, but they said they are working on adding those things soon

at 6:30 it looks like there is a path through the rocks on the overworld into the clouds, i'm sure there's islands there you haven't found yet
On the snake island, there is a symbol like the one you spawn the evil twins, but it's upside down! You never pressed that and we don't know what's doing!!!
It currently does nothing(either you or the evil twin pressing it). I spent a fair amount of effort trying both.

as far as i know, there's no special reward or achievement for getting all keys, but there are 12 of every gem and an achievement to get there if you want

Same here! There was also a stump in the previous room, on the unused arm on the left. I personally suspect they lead to additional puzzles.

@@combak2712 This game has multiple spots that look like they'd be something but are not at the moment. Possibly space left for future patches / DLCs.
There was more content for the game planned, but due to some IRL issues the dev went ahead and released the game. There's several places in the game where it LOOKS like you should be able to do something, but there's nothing there. On the one hand, it's pretty frustrating to run into when your trying to 100% the game and there are so many dead ends, but on the other hand, it DOES leave the game in state that's pretty DLC friendly. And what is in the game is solid and fun. So I would welcome the DLC.
There's a puzzle game called Tactical Nexus that just recently went free on Steam, basically because the devs felt guilty taking people's money and *only* having them play a hundred hours of the game rather than the 10,000 the game boasts. It's an awesome puzzle game, sort of RPG resource management pushed to its limit kind of thing. It's awesome fun, and the devs seem great, so I HIGHLY recommend checking it out
First puzzle game I've ever seen to have rogue-lite style metaprogression too. You earn medals for beating levels with certain scores, and then in other levels you can access the medal shop to spend your medals on boosts; the more levels you've completed, and the better you completed them, the better the items you can buy in the shop to help you along. It's a really addictive concept
It seems a little disingenuous to not mention the 125$ worth of DLC. It looks like the base game is plenty complete though, and the DLC ate just more content, but it's still a bit weird.
@@TlalocTemporal The DLC is basically bonus content. The devs have even said they don't recommend buying ANY DLC unless you've played a few hundred hours of the base game minimum, then buy them one at a time. they even have recommendations for how many sunstone (the meta-currency) you should have before buying any of them

I can’t believe how different some of your solutions were to mine. In the "trickiest puzzle in the game so far" that you solved around the 30th minute, I solved it completely differently, by pushing a shadow block on the spikes which allowed me to trigger a push from my shadowclone while moving leftwards towards the spikes (but since there’s a block there, my character doesn’t move on the spikes). It’s rare to have such precise and complexe sokoban-like puzzles and still be able to come up with really different ideas on how to solve them.
I did that fire puzzle in the goofiest way. I got the demon to keep pushing the blocks on top of each other. No fire used at all. It was so much readjusting location over and over.

This game has been absolutely fantastic, it's not quite my favorite game you've played (that goes to A Can of Wormholes) but it's certainly top 5. It'll be bittersweet seeing the final episode, I don't want it to end yet! Hopefully it gets DLC later down the line that we can return for!

This game was, by far, my favorite game of the year. I 100% completed it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
after just now seeing your superluminal series re upload and hearing what you sounded like when i had only been watching you for a short while at that point made me realise how much i love you new mic, and how you have progressed. i know your quality got better but going back and looking at those old videos really opened my eyes on how much better they have gotten, keep up the good work. long time viewer here. :)
Superliminal and superluminal have quite different meanings
So far this game has been really cool. But these evil twin puzzles seem real irritating trying to get the position right, like they don’t have quite the same elegance of previous solutions. They seem quite wall smash to line up everything
To be fair to the game designer though Tyler .... doesnt seem to be thinking about his moves at all when dealing with the twins and just wall smashing so it makes sense that's the vibe thopse sections give off
Serpant island is insanity and feels very very rewarding to see. Looking back at episode one and comparing to the puzzles now, the progression is incredible in the game
All of the puzzles on this island took forever to solve but eventually each one was conquered.
Also, the puzzle at 14:18 I actually used the “intended solution” if I didn’t have the Cape (which honestly I forgot I had at that moment lamo)

Is it just me, or did anyone notice the that the circles demons spawned on were upside down, but it looked like there were some spots with right side up circles in the elemental rooms? Are they another puzzle? Are you supposed to get a demon guy on those circles? 🤷♂️
Tyler always calls the purple guy "evil", even though *he's* the one always plotting how to kill/imprison his clone 😔
Hey, the clones *always* laugh when player-character dies, but Tyler only laughs *occasionally* when the clone dies

It feels like you skipped a thing. There is always a reversed summoning spot very hard to reach in every demon areas. (The picto is reversed upside down on them).
I think you never tryed to reach them.

I feel kinda bad for saying this, but I'm glad I didn't end up buying this game and instead I'm just watching aliensrock's playthroughs. it's nice to see all the sokoban concepts, but I don't think I'd have the patience to play through all of it. Some puzzles look really tedious, like the shadowy blocks + clone ones.
I might pick it up if there's dlc tho, might feel more confident by then lol

28:20 Couldn't you have just pushed the closest fire elemental from you to the left to destroy the block. Then push him to be above you as you walk up. So you don't move and the box gets hit. Seems way easier...

The editing on the snake island will make it very hard for people to use your videos as a walkthrough. You should make them seamless if you're going to edit stuff out to make it the least amount of correct moves.

Hello, I have a question. Can you please tell me why you never went on to do a slice and dice series? It is a great rougelike while being super hard at times.

"Is this a boss region?" What gave it away Tyler? Was it the fact that the new mechanic requires the dark gems that are scattered throughout the land as rewards for puzzles attached to secrets? Or maybe it was the ominous dark indigo color of the island? Perhaps the green water was a clue? No, the thing that finally clues him in is realizing that the island uses all the elemental buddies. Sometimes for a genius puzzle solver, Tyler can be ludicrously blind to obvious signs. The whole island screams boss island.
