- In this video, I use trash and junk from around the house to make 10 different types of Christmas ornaments. These include vintage style bells from empty prescription pill bottles, mushrooms from a foam egg carton, a snowman and a snowball made from old jar lids, miniature ornament boxes from empty matchboxes, bird cages made from sticks and paper cups, a snowflake made from sticks, a leather tree made from the cover of an old planner, paper wood slice trees from old sheet music, and a commemorative baby ornament made from an old letter block.

I FORGOT to explain something! Were you wondering why I turned the egg cups inside out?! The egg carton cups were rounded on the sides but flat on the bottom. At first, when I “massaged” them, I was hoping to round them out. When that didn’t work, I thought to turn them inside out. Turning them inside out also concealed the imprinted little design on the bottom of the egg cup.
thanks! all egg cartons are not created equal, lol, one i had was too stiff to do it, another one from egglands best brand was much more pliable. i thought it was very tacky of your friend Deirdre to charge for her little snips of printables in her Etsy shop especially when you are kind enough to give links to free much nicer printables. her skill does not hold a candle to yours.
Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thank you for sharing !! I’m going to have to try the pill bottles to see if I can make that. It’s absolutely adorable 🥰!! I started making some Halloween 🎃 ornaments out of cardboard ❤I had no idea 🤷♀️ I could even do that and they turned out adorable for my Halloween 🎃 homemade tree 🌲!! I’ll attach it on my craft channel it’s called Trends By Jenn
I love this! In 1979 my dad was stationed in Crete with the Army. We cut a big branch for a Christmas tree, leaned it against the wall, and made all our ornaments out of spools, toilet tissue rolls and everything we could get our hands on! Your projects are far more sophisticated than what we could do as kids, but the spirit of your creativity sure evoked those memories of making something from whatever you have!! And loving it!!
What a lovely memory, Nicole! No expensive decor could have replaced the special ornaments you made that year!🥰

I was teaching class on Saturday. Our tree got delivered. The kids were picking up their toys. My daughter said let's put them on the tree! They used hair ribbons and scrunchies, too. When I got home I was blown away how darling it was!! Teddy bears and cars...cute under the tree!! And this is why their dad is more fun than me!!
You are brilliant! I loved all of them. It's important that people still know how to make something from almost nothing, you're keeping this tradition alive. Thank you.
Oh, thank you, Cinder! 😊
Lovely Sherry! This episode was very nostalgic for me because I remember making ornaments with my mom out of junk and foraged things. My mom died when I was just 21 years old but she filled my childhood with things like this. I believe she is the one that formed me as a Maker/Up-cycler. Thank you for the tender memories. 💜🤟
I am so glad that you enjoyed the video, Lisa! I am so sorry that you lost your mother so young, but you are lucky to have such lovely memories of her. My mother died in a car accident when I was a baby, so sadly, I have no memories of her. My dad remarried and I was raised by a wonderful woman who was my “mom.” She passed away from cancer a few years ago.
Wow nice comment you must be a thoughtful person to drop a wonderful comment on this one i hope you are safe and sound in health?
I do appreciate your attention to detail (even with junk). One man's trash is another's treasure!
There just aren’t enough words to express how darling, creative, unique, fun, memory-connected and affordable ALL these ideas are!!! Seriously!! The baby block idea??? OMGoodness!!!
Oh, thank you so much, V! I’m so glad you liked today’s video! I came up with the baby block idea a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t wait to include it in a video.
I’m on the hunt for baby blocks now! I want to make one for my 4 yr old granddaughter and one for her sister who is, so far, scheduled to arrive November 17!
Baby Ophelia did arrive on November 17!
I could watch you everyday! I can't wait to try that baby block ornament for some special newcomers to out family. Thank you for your wonderful videos and projects.
Thank you, JoDee! I am so glad you liked the baby block! 😊
We have a little friend due to arrive Dec. 14. I can’t wait to get his birth information so I can make an ornament!
Sherry your "brass" bells were GENIUS! As always, I enjoy HOW your mind works and your creativity brings your ideas to life-TFS :D
Thank you, C.J.! I’m so glad you liked the bells! 😊
I love this so much! Homemade ornaments are the best and they carry our memories through the years. I love reading everyone's memories who shared here in the comments! Here's mine- About 15 years ago, I was at "starting over" point in my life, so was a friend/neighbor. We were both single moms and didn't have extra money to spend on decorations. We challenged each other to spend $5 or less to decorate our trees. She made bright stars from neon-colored plastic straws for her tree. She also visited bars and restaurants to ask for some of those little drink umbrellas for her tree. Her tree was whimsical and bright! I picked up pine cones from my yard and shells at the beach. I attached gold curly ribbon (all I had) with the only glue I had, Liquid Nails! 😂 I added some clear glass angels from Dollar Tree. My tree had a different beauty. It was natural and woodsy beachy. Both our trees were beautiful! We made cookies and hot chocolate and invited the neighborhood children to come see our trees. The children loved it ❤️ I still have those ornaments. I mean, they're put together with Liquid Nails. I'll always have them! 😂
That "snowball" ornament is beautiful! These are all great ideas. I have something I do to make ornaments with trash. I save the metal ends from canned biscuits or canned crescent rolls. They are the perfect flat, round surface to use as an ornament, and thin enough so that a hole can easily be made in them for a hanger to be placed. Sometimes I paint them, and then I mod podge a vintage looking image inside the part with the small rim. Sometimes, I allow them to rust a bit ,which they do pretty quickly if you wet them and let them sit for a bit, then I mod podge an image inside and spray sealer all over to keep the rusty look. They need to be sealed either way. They turn out some very cute little, simple round ornaments. Almost forgot, I have also painted them and stamped them with a Christmasey image, or used small molds to glue on, then painted. Again, they are a perfect ,flat enough, round surface to place anything on and make a cute ornament. The kind I get, the paper comes right out when I open them,so I just wash the metal discs and use them this way. I've even stuck them on wreaths before, and nobody ever could tell what they once were. So, just a low cost, basically free, ornament idea, and one that can easily be done with kiddos since they don't have sharp edges. Happy crafting!
Crystal, what a fantastic idea! I know exactly what you mean; I have some Pillsbury crescent rolls in my refrigerator that I am going to have to eat this week! 😜
Omg, I do the same!
I love them all, especially the matchbox shiny bright ornament boxes. I remember that brand from my childhood, and we carefully kept our glass ornaments in those original boxes.
Thank you, Linda! At the antique store where I have a booth, Shiny Brite ornaments in the original box can sell for as much as $50!!!
I love the pill bottle bells! It just goes to show you that you can make beautiful ornaments from junk. I love both of your channels.
Thank you so much, Dawn! 😊
I love all these. Especially the bells made with the pill bottles and egg carton. Something I have a ton of. I’ve been saving my pill bottles to make a lighted garland with them for Christmas. Idk how it will turn out but in my mind it’s beautiful. But I’m sure I’ve got extra to make some bells. I really enjoyed the video. I think using recycled items to craft with is more my favorite than any other. Thanks!
❤️💜💚
Love the nostalgia! Oh, how I long for that wholesomeness...
I was just reminiscing about making paper snowflakes and other Christmas decorations in grade school. I sure hope that children today get to have these sweet experiences, too!
Two absolutely talented ladies
Loved the block with baby info - that is a great gift to give new parents!
Just amazing how real those bells look! Love this video!
A Collaboration made in heaven! Particularly love the baby's first ornament.
Thank you, Beth! 😊
My two favorite DIY'ers in one video!! Doesn't get much better than that!!
Thank you, Lisa! 😊
These are lovely, the mushrooms are definitely happening. I love the tree slices with the words too. I made many shapes with twigs one year (my all hygge Christmas 😊) and some of them came out looking a bit Blair witch project according to my sons. The bits of decor in the middle was perfect, I’ll do that next time.
Those ornaments turned out beautiful I can't wait to see what Deidre shows us.
When I first started watching this video I thought the first item you made, the Bell’s was going to be my favorite. I almost started writing to say I love the bells the best, but then I watched the next item being made and I loved that……the next item after that I love that it……it just kept going. Your ideas are amazing and come out beautiful!! YOU ALWAYS inspire me💗😀
Ohmygosh Sherry these ornaments are all absolutely beautiful! Who would of thought they all started as junk! You are one very gifted lady! Thank you for sharing your God given gifts with us all, you've given me so much inspiration! God bless you and your family abundantly in all things and much love from me too! ❤️🙏🥰😘😊
Thank you, Nikkie! I really appreciate these sweet comments! 😊 Blessing to you and your family, too!
everything is awesome but I love the bells and the mushrooms especially.
Love these. I've had a woodland & vintage tree for years. My favorite is the mini shiny brite boxes. So darling. 🥰🎄🐦💕
I so look forward to your videos. Your creativity seems to have no bounds!! My favorite this week (really hard to choose just one) is the bells! TFS
Thank you so much, sweet Mary! 😊
Sherry, I can't believe how amazing those pill bottle bells look! No one would ever guess.
The ornaments are all great & will be doing them with my Grandkids. We love doing crafts together.
My favorites are the brass bells and the bird cages but I loved them all (as usual!). So fun and inspiring!
Thank you, Carol! 😊
I love that you two know each other. I watch various videos and think, “Wow! She should meet ********. They would make the best of friends.” And....there you two are. I absolutely, positively love your projects and the baby block is my fav. Thanks for sharing!
The white paint really makes the details of the church really pop! Really like the way you make multiple hang tags.
You two make me smile! I'm so happy you share your talents with us!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 YES YES YES!!! The ABSOLUTE best creators and crafters collaborating!!!
Sherry, they all turned out fabulous !!! I LOVE to make homemade Christmas ornaments !!! Years ago, my family and friends would have an ornament swap, and the ornaments had to be homemade, it was so much fun seeing what people could come up with.🎄🎄
You always make the most ordinary look extraordinary. I think the twig snowflake is my favorite!
The baby block ornament at the very end is by far my favorite Christmas project I've seen you create this year and last year, too. I'm going to save this idea now. Then I'm going on a hunt for wood blocks.
These ornaments are terrific. I’m definitely going to make the bells and I think the leather trees would look adorable with letter beads hung across them like garland. Thank you Sherry
I can’t believe how pretty you made these! Love it!
Omg ladies! Sheri and Deidre together, my perfect duet. What a treat. 💕
Keep shining on! Thank you so much for your continued Inspiration ladies. 🌞
You are so welcome! Thank you for those kind words, Elise! 😊
Freaking genius! Bells from old pill bottles!
Those bells!!! I wish I would have seen the baby block idea years ago, so adorable! Thank you for all of your great ideas and inspiration Sherry.
Oh, thank you, Debra! I came up with that baby block idea while sitting in the doctor’s office (of all places) a few weeks ago! I couldn’t wait to try it out. I’m so glad you liked it!! 😊
Oh Sherry, what a wonderful surprise for you and Deidre to do a collaboration! I love Deidre’s channel as well as yours. Sherry, all of these ideas are just wonderful! But my favorite is absolutely the baby block ornaments. Since I have become a grandparent this year, I will be making lots of ornaments for our little bundle of joy! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you, Lee! I, too, love Deidre’s channel. Congratulations on becoming a grandparent! I am so ready for grandchildren, but my boys don’t seem to be in a hurry to mark this happen! 😜
The birdcage is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your inspiration! 😍
I absolutely LOVE the baby block. I have a new granddaughter so I plan to make one for her. I always love how creative you are.
Thank you, Brandy! I thought of that idea a few weeks ago at the doctor’s office. The receptionist was showing off pictures of her first grand baby. I’m so glad you like it! 😊
That baby block is darling!!
Oh my goodness Sherry, each ornament is so precious !!!! I love the mushrooms and the bird cages !! Hope you have a great week !
How fun to see you and Deidre together! I hope we see more of you two collaborating. I think it is wonderful that so many of you are a community. Sherry, you are something. I can't even pick a favorite this week. I second a previous comment, I could watch you everyday!

I loved all these projects!! Looking forward to turning trash into Christmas ornaments.😊💕
Finally a great craft idea for using pill bottles!
All projects absolutely adorable, as always, very clever and creative. My faves were the pill bottle bells and the baby block - what a beautiful, one of a kind memory that little block is. TFS
Thank you, Annie! 😊 Funny thing-I came up with the baby block idea at the doctor’s office (of all places)! The receptionist was showing me pictures of her first grand baby!
My jaw dropped with the things you used to make these very creative projects. Holy moly they came out fantastic. I will be making the bells. Thanks for posting
Oh, thank you, Kim! You are so very sweet! 😊
Everything is fantastic. The baby block is genius.
Oh my!!! I love all of the ornaments!! You're imagination is incredible!! You're a joy to watch every week!
Thank you, Mary! I really appreciate those kind words! 😊
I love the vintage matchbox ornaments box!! We used to have those brands for our Christmas trees!! 💜
In the antique store where my booth is located, some vendors sell boxes of Shiny Brite ornaments in their original boxes for $50!!! And, people will pay that much!
Liked the snowballs and snowman
LOVE the LETTER O BLOCK ORNAMENT...
Growing up in my family we learn to decorate our Christmas 🎄 with what we had I’m from Mexico 🇲🇽 up until 13 years old I leave in Mexico I’m now 72 years young ,enjoying your beautiful show ,which by the way I had made many of your crafts today I pick Christmas 🎄 and the mushrooms 🍄 for my gifts to my family in thanksgiving.thanks for sharing 🙏🏼😍
I love this! If you had twice as many lids you could make the snowmen double sided!
That’s a great idea, Krickette! 🥰
These are absolutely delightful!
This brings back sweet memories of my mum-the most resourceful woman I ever knew. She has been gone 5 years now, but her lessons to me live on in me and in the 4-H kids with whom I share them. 💝
Thank you! I sure hope I can share some ideas that you can use with your 4H kids!😀
❤️❤️❤️ ... the match boxes and small snowman from x3 lids and lg lid snowball.
Liked the baby block ornament
Darling, Darling, Darling Projects!!! Always so clever!
I’m fascinated. It is so relaxing and uplifting to watch you create.❤
Your attention to detail is second to none! I love each of your projects!
I'm amazed at your creativity and how great everything turned out! Such inspiring ways to keep stuff out of the trash!
Thank you, Cynthia! I love making these “junk” videos. It is such a challenge to see what can be done with something that otherwise would have gone in the trash.
Ann here Sherry. You amaze me with simple unique diy's. I know now I can use all our medicine bottles. I love the bird cage out of sticks in your yard. How brilliant. Now these wood rounds are adorable.
Those bird cages are charming!
2 of my very favourite ladies ❤️🙏🥰
I love the mushrooms, I think they are very whimsical! And I also love the “woodsy” vintage birdcages! Just awesome, everything!
Thank you, Sarah! 😊
Just adorable. I don't know if I'd call it junk😍, more like found objects. They are so sweet. TFS. Can't wait to watch Deidre's video.
As if you could get any better?!? What a fun surprise to wake up to this morning!! I absolutely love watching both of you and have used many of your ideas for myself! I cannot pick as favorite as all the ideas are so very good!! Loved this so very much!
I loved those BELLS and that BLOCK and everything in between!
Thank you, Donna!😊
Good afternoon, Sherry ! Yay! Can not wait to see your Christmas diy treasures! I'll be sure to visit Deidra's channel, too! Something to watch as I recover from a terrible cold. Thank you for sharing! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Good afternoon, Bobbie! The weather is crazy. It is going to be in the 70’s this week, and down in the 30’s this weekend! Prime cold and flu season!
Wow! Those bells and mushrooms were 🏆👑🔥
These projects were wonderful Sherry! The 'bells' looked real and very old. The snowman made out of three lids was adorable. The ornament made out of the larger lid was very pretty. The match boxes were too cute. So, so clever.
Sherry, the pill bottle bells are wonderful...they look so much like the metal ones. It is amazing what a little creativity and hot glue can do.
Thank you, Gale!
Inovative ornaments are great but my favorites are your mushroom, wood rounds with tree shaped words and baby block ornaments.. thank you for sharing.
Love your “junk” ornaments! After each one I would think, that’s the one I like best! Brought back memories of making ornaments through the years! Believe it or not, I still have dried milkweed Santa’s after twenty years! Blessed and safe days!
Thank you, Alice! That is amazing that those milkweed Santa’s have held up for so long!
I knew you would be my one creator to make those bells lol. I am in love with them. Now I hope to see videos where you show me ideas for those large ones. Anyone else that knows of any ideas please lmk 💕🙏
Thank you! I think I am going to hang some off the end of my mantel and from the staircase banister. I’m getting out the Christmas tree and decorations this week, so we’ll see what looks good.
love your mushrooms, birdcages and scripted tree rounds!!!!!
The brass bell, bird cages and leather tree are my favorite!💝🌲💝Thanks!
I love the bird houses. They are darling and would look nice on anyone's tree !!
The music paper trees are just adorable. They will look nice on a tree or as a garland !
I also love the twig snowflakes. They are darling.
Love the bird cages
I totally like the bells.
Love you both. Excited to see you guys together.
The uk hasn’t used foam egg boxes for decades. They’re made from petroleum and not environmentally friendly at all. I was so surprised to see them! We use cardboard egg boxes now.
I absolutely love the bells made from medicine bottles. I've got to try this.
You make absolute magic out of everything you touch! I enjoy your channel so very much, thank you for brightening my days. ❤️
Oh, what a sweet sweet thing to say, Renee! 😊 Thank you!
I am excited too!!!! I follow both of your channels! Y'all are amazing!
So elegant. They do not look homemade❤❤❤❤❤
Love the bells.
I am in awe of those pill bootle brass bells!
You and Deidre together are a hoot! Both overflowing with talent!
