- In Episode 257 of the Counselling Tutor Podcast, your hosts Rory Lees-Oakes and Ken Kelly take us through this week’s three topics:
• First up in ‘Theory in Practice’ we look at Locus of Evaluation.
• Then in ‘Practice Today’, we think about what you might do when meeting a client in a social setting.
• And lastly in ‘Practice Matters’, Rory speaks with Tayba Azim on counselling Muslim clients and supporting them with their mental health.
What a wonderful and genuinely passionate podcast and the issue of Locus of evaluation so beautifully described. Thank you!
Coherent and helpful as usual xx
Great show as always although could not find the John Shlien citation anywhere on the website show notes?
Really enjoyed listening to this podcast, especially the bit about counselling Muslim clients. For a Muslim client coming to therapy there are so many intersectional experiences that they may bring to therapy. It's so important for therapists to be aware of this, and learn about others so as not to cause further damage to the client and their experiences of therapy. The client may well be attending therapy because of oppressive experiences within society, and to be met with ignorance and prejudice within therapy is compounding that experience. I always say there is nothing wrong with being curious and asking questions. It shows you're interested and want to learn!
So glad you found value in this episode.
You can only be accepting of others once you treat yourself in the same accepting way though....
Self-care first is so important.
