My favorite McTell song! What a beautiful story he weaves in a little over four minutes! To a small degree it reminds me of my childhood, wading in the streams of a tremendous wooded area (state owned) with my friends, all day long!
Nice one. I hadn't heard it before. My sister pinged a link to me as a going away present for a work trip to a particularly hot and boring bit of Asia, to remind me of cool, beautiful home. We grew up by the canal which runs about 200 yards from this stage, and I often used to walk up it in the evenings when I was a boy, help boats through the locks, and hitch a ride home on one when I was tired of walking. None of the boats were horse drawn though. Ralph is a bit older than me!
Thank you for this Watchawhile - my favourite song of Ralph's and he performs it beautifully here.... always takes me back to the narrow-boats on the canal there behind the Cropredy stage ... :-)
Mine as well. There are many beautiful songs, and this is one of them (check out 'Nice To Be Here' by The Moody Blues). My wife and I have been to the UK a few times. Several years ago we rented a canal barge in Market Harborough for one week. A great many of these have been converted into houseboats. A wonderful experience.
Always exquisite to listen to. Always brings the tears.
Same for me, he has an amazing gift to make people feel his music.
Sadly Ralph’s brother has passed away today. Deep condolences to him and his family. R.I.P. Bruce. 😞
One of the greatest songs about summer ever written.
This song always gets me emotional! Beautiful

Beautiful song....great talent.
I was sat at the front watching this, the beautiful sun setting made the experience utterly incredible. Thank you for recording it. 👍
You're welcome Dan.

I want verses from this on my tombstone. If I were to have one.
I heard this played on BBC Radio 3 the other day!
Peer Gynt Sunrise!
