Paul Jakcson Jr. Ray Parker Jr. Al Mackay, Tony Maiden, Freddie Stone, Nile Rodgers, Wah Wah Whatson, Leo Noncentelli, Jimmy Nolan, Charles skip Pitts and Sugarfoot are the proof that takes more than "play 16th notes" to be funky
This was GREAT! Thanks for posting this! PJJ is a killer player! :) I met him at my first NAMM show in 1995. Paul was a Rivera endorser, and was at their booth. I got there on the Thursday AM, and I chatted with Paul for about 10 min, as it was still early. He was really nice. Three days later, on Sunday afternoon, I ran into him again outside the convention centre. He said "Hey Ian, how did you like the show!?". I was shocked that he remembered my name after 4 days of NAMM madness! What a great dude! :)
Also, Mason, can you try and get Wendy Melvoin on the "show"? She seems really approachable and loves everything-guitar, bet it would be amazing to talk about what they used back in the 80's, both in the studio and live, but specially in the studio. I know Prince used an always clean, modified SLO100 on their shows, but that's all really. Prince also had a custom stereo Crybaby, which Dunlop refuses to put the details out but it's supposed to be really "different" from most Wah's.
In the Quincy Jones documentary on Netflix, Paul Jackson shows up with that strat stacked with EMG's SA, so I guess he eventually let go the Bartollinis?
Hello Mason, Nice interview! Very interesting the Clone the Tone video you recently made. Do you have in mind which guitarist will clone the tone in the next one?
Great! Well everybody will tell you: John Frusciante, The Edge, Tom Morello, Jimmy Hendrix and I'll tell you Dean DeLeo, Noel Gallagher, Junior Marvin (Bob Marley), Gustavo Cerati (Soda Stereo).
Live interview with the Rig Doctor and session icon/solo artist Paul Jackson Jr.
Appreciate this!
