Id still get the roof checked out, Jen, as condensation is actually worse than a leak. The condensation you cant see may be soaking the wood in your roof even when it isnt raining and water not dripping. If the condensation issue isnt resolve, you could have problems later. I had a similar issue with condensation in my loft due to not enough air getting in. I had to install extra vents and pull some insulation back from the eaves to increase air flow.
Sorry to hear about the water problems. One thing that might be irrelevant for you, but otherwise may be worth considering, is to get any unused chimneys taken down to below the level of tiles or slates, and getting the gap covered with matching tiles/slates. No matter how good the flashing, or how well the chimney is capped, an unused chimney is a weak point.
I Jen, v unlikely that amount of water is a build up of condensation. Much more likely that the roofing felt beneath the states has perished, tiles need to be lifted to take a look and more vents are indeed a good idea. Next time there is heavy rain should be a clincher!
@@nigelyoung1616 the house was built in 1927 - a very different design of roof. The slates are fastened to the wood with no underfelt and are all still original. Before the loft conversion, going into the loft involved seeing the underside of all the actual slates.
You have an impressive collection of locomotives. There's never to many look at zoes game collection 😆 🤣 . You should visit the seven valley again I live not to far from it and love it . There's many trains that go to multiple places in the west Midlands .
Worst nightmare I am sure. You might want to consider removing the damp and damaged areas of the drywall ceiling- you don’t want mold starting. Good luck
Sorry to hear about the leak. Glad it wasn't as bad as feared. I planned for fewer purchases. That was until the Hornby 2023 announcement. One loco pre-ordered already Somerset and Dorset 4F. Will probably cave in to temptation and get more. I think more of a mixture of product reviews, projects and out and about is the way forward for me. Wishing you a leak free 2023. Regards Paul..
I hate leaks, I ended up building a “tent” over my layout when not in use. Oh! One or three locos I see…Well you know what they say…”The one who dies with the most toys wins!”
Sorry to hear of your leak . I was wondering if you could ask your viewers if any body has the break rigging for a merchant navy class loco (hornby) that they don’t want as I lost mine during a move Great video as always also always something we can learn
Sorry to hear about the roof leak/condensation problem. I hope all is ok now. my news is I am halfway out of my old house and halfway into my new house which will have its own layout room and a lot nicer landlord. martin. (Thailand). ☔☔☔
Don't envy the leak. Water has a way of hiding its source and where it's flowing. Watch out no damp or rot has set in. As far as moving to other video themes go for it. No doubt Zoe has pointed out your YT stats - I look at mine all the time to spot what works and what doesn't. Used to enjoy some of your visits to old railway sites and preserved lines. Perhaps visit a few Monday clubbers layouts too
New fan of your channel and would love to see you out and about more on special projects, I agree the reviews get a bit same same especially when there are 10 of a model in a week. Good luck whatever you do and look forward to more enjoyable content in 2023.
Sorry to hear about the water ingress. Hope ithasn't caused damage and you get to the bottom of sorting it. As to more storage, perhaps you should write to the High Council of Gallifrey, and apply for a light inter dimensional railway order for running rights to extend the layout into the TARDIS. Should get you a bit of space in there... Happy modelling! D
Water ingress really is a problem with my shed roof, which I clearly need to fix somehow. Mostly it drips on the area which I want to develop as the town scene, so it’s delaying me finishing off the levels there. I agree about fewer reviews but more visits and interviews. I’m intrigued as to what happens at Dapol as they produce some superb models at very good prices. How do they do it? As for the Oxford Rail J27s, whatever happened to their planned J26? Since Hornby bought them out it seems to have vamooshed into cyberspace. Has it been dropped completely, or has Simon Kohler kicked it into the long grass?
Oh dear, sorry to hear about your drips. I like your reviews. I do find another popular UA-camr's reviews entertaining and informative, but I think there is room for other reviewers that simerimes come to conclusions. It's good to have more than one view point. On the other hand it's your channel, so why not do what you enjoy most?
I’d be taking down some of that boarding you’ve put up and see exactly what’s going on behind. Might be a pain in the short term but in the long term it could save you a lot of grief….and expense. Had a similar issue here, though the loft wasn’t used for the layout but made a ‘storage room’ with painted hardboard similar to what you have done. Masses of condensation in the end and had to take it all off and get a few vents put into the roof. Some of the trusses etc had turned black with mould and no doubt the start of rot. Got to it just in time.
Condensation is a nightmare. When I still lived at my parents I converted the metal shed into a model railway room. Until I put ceiling tiles up I constantly got condensation on the ceiling that fell on the layout. Hope you got it sorted. A few more non review videos may be what's needed!
Hi Jenny it may be worth a look behind the ply wood as condensation if not cured could lead to problems in the future . A building material called CFC is used to keep rooms insulated . You may be able to blag some of its from a builder before he throws it away .
Interviews would be a step up the food chain. Since you ask and so not breaking the unwritten rules on youtube viewing, I'd like to see teardown videos of the electronics, from which we might learn things, like who uses the same computer chips in their DCC, what the capabilities of the chips are. Because they will only be off the shelf microcontrollers and components. Don't fancy doing it yourself - even better a dialogue between the naive and the expert.
Maybe you can sell off some of the duplicates that you have no emotional ties with (like you don't sell off your child and teen years equipment! Or your first product review loco or car) to free up storage space and recoup some prior investment (I am not in the market due to being in the USA and so shipping cost would be a bear!)?
Hi Jenny Good news about the leak but I guess you will sort it out in time, I like your reviews (even though the vast majority are OO, lol), although a bit of variety isn't a bad thing. Some more visits to preserved railways and build or working on layout videos would be good, maybe some history details of the loco's you have, old tooling verses new tooling which are better, is it worth the difference in prices etc. Another avenue could be secondhand bargains at Toyfairs (I know Well Chuffed Railways do this but maybe a variety of scales might be a differing factor). Anyway good luck with whatever you decide to do, just keep doing the Monday club! I think we all like that one, lol. Thanks
hope there was not any real damage to weir yard,it looks pretty amazing, great video jenny, i have been following your work for nearly 10 years always interesting, peace n best wishes.jpj
I've not had water problems on my layout, bt I do have a cat-hair one! Missy will insist on lying on the lumpiest bits of track she can find, leavng tufts of surplus fur behind following a good scratch (and the occasional fur-ball!) for me to clean up before I can do anything- such as picking up all the rolling stock she has 'killed!'
Ahh any loft based modeller (or homeowner's) worst nightmare. I'm going to be going into our loft in a year or so hence I'll be fully insulating the loft. One thing that often causes problems is when the lead flashing lifts and allows rainwater in. It's got to be sorted more or less as soon as you discover it really. I've got some preorders in too. Alex
Sorry Jennifer I can understand your problem .thankfully I have a dry bedroom . And how typical it happens in wintertime. When it's difficult trying to find someone to repair the roof thanks for your videos. Bryan

Hello Jenny-joo. Lots of stuff covered in this video. May I ask how much those little display cabinets cost and from where they were purchased? (Please don't say Amazon.) :)
Roofs leaking on model railways doesn't sound very nice at all, I'm glad you've been able to sort it out. Deffo keep the reviews coming, you're quite good at them. It's also lovely to see videos of visiting places so I'd deffo love to see more of those from you. :)
I had a similar issue this year because of the cold snap we had before Christmas. Where we had been drying clothes in doors, water vapour had reached the inside of roof tiles and then as soon as the temp rose, it all melted and leaked all over the place

Yeah condensation can be really bad as it is the hidden cause of rot that won’t go away.

We have only one remaining chimney and it is still used for a log burning stove.

Interesting idea with the tent.
probbably not condensation . i'd reccon the high winds in the right direction probbably blew water upwards under the slates
It is a possibility, but I still think frozen condensation is another possible cause.
