Thanks everyone, be good to each other!
I personally like the art style it's like Saturday morning cartoons mixed with what a child imagination thinks when playing with army men
I've definitely come around on it a lot. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but I think Wayforward did a great job
Great video, I appreciate you open with a tl;dr version to not lead people along for 15 mins like so many other video creators would, but still expand on all your thoughts through the rest of the video.
Thanks boss! It's something I've seen other creators do before, and I respect the move (as well as viewer's time) so I figured it'd be a good include here.
You definitely hit the nail in the head. I’ve been playing it and loving it since the minute it released but the lackluster multiplayer stings and the shortcomings of the art direction (bar those beautiful designs and animations), wether intentional or not, make the whole package sour sweet. I imagine some world in which we could’ve gotten either some maps and units matching the art style of the COs and the opening cutscene or at least some modern pixel rendition maybe even a la octopath.
Easy purchase for me. Tons of content and the local muiltiplayer is huge for me and I personally love the artstyle.
Same here, I’m a big fan of the toy soldier/board game aesthetic
Ultimately, due to the art style and lack of real online, I decided to spend the money on second-hand copies of the two DS games, which I've never played. I usually have a straightforward time over being selective about games I buy, but this one was particularly frustrating because they got so many things right along with key things wrong. I was on the fence for quite a while.
Totally understandable reasoning. Those are the biggest sticking points I see people bring up, and it makes total sense.
Nice video, great work!
Is there physical release for this game?
There is! I don't have the physical edition personally, but I've seen plenty of people who do.
I'll definitely check this out in like a couple months for now I've got some shorter games to finish up first maybe after ff16, which I feel the cartoony art style will make for a very nice change of pace
I’m the same, after tears of the kingdom & ff16, this is 3rd choice!
Yeah I hear y'all for sure, there's a wild array of stuff coming up.
I get what you mean about sound- the GBA sound chip could really crank out some harsh mechanical sounds, it's a big part of the atmosphere
Indeed it could, it was a beast of a little thing.
I never expected the online multiplayer to be good, it's still Nintendo. They're online has always been a joke, kinda sucks that custom maps can only be shared with friends, though. Especially since the map creator got a pretty big upgrade here.
Simple post because I just found your channel and I know any comments help!
Great video, thanks for covering Advanced Wars!
No problem, thanks for watching!
This is my introduction to the franchise and liking it so far. Hope they balance the COs and add online multiplayer as one thing I abhor in games is imbalance in games with asymmetric elements. Though I understand balancing asymmetry is very hard.
I personally love the art style, and have been loving the game.
I originally didn't like the graphic that much, but they've since grown on me. I think the thing that put me off was that it looked too much like Tiny Metal, which is in itself an Advance Wars clone. As for sound design, I had no issues there with two exceptions. Hawke's theme did not have the oomph I wished it had, and the CO power theme from AW2 was downgraded instead of upgraded, nevermind that it only plays during factory missions. As for online features, I withhold my opinion since I hate PvP in any game. It's never been fun for me.
Yeah, it seems that most people, you and I included, have come around on the graphical style. It's just so endearing, you know? I'm also sad about Hawke's theme, it's just so...soft now.
What do i want?
A charming Strategy gsme with lovable characters and fun clever gameplay
I think I'm gonna love it
I cant believe how mucb Manga hated this remake
Bur people say dont take bim seriously
Nintendo really sucks with online. Yet they make you pay for whatever bare bones service you get.
I never played Advance Wars when it came out, but my little brother was always a big fan of the series. (We grew up on Godzilla 2: War of the Monsters on the NES, which was a similar concept except the other side was all kaiju. I hear that the indie game Kaiju Wars is a similar premise, and I've been meaning to try it out.)
Much as I usually think of March of the Black Queen or Final Fantasy Tactics as my first TRPG, looking back, it was probably Godzilla 2 =]
Oh man, what a starting point!
Hey at least there are no stupid comm towers in its otherwise luckluster multiplayer.
You should buy it if you want Nintendo care about Advance Wars, its already on thin ice being delayed twice
The sad reality is, I don't think Nintendo really cares about it in the first place. Unless it gets absolutely bonkers sales, Nintendo seems to be uncomfortable with the whole concept of the franchise; see the fact that it's not even being released in Japan.
Me: I want online match making
Game: You can play with friends
Me: I don't have friends. By the way, what is a friend?
Game: Ask Andy :(
As for the character models I don't really see anything wrong with them they seem all right to me
Me and my son were going thru my containers of games and systems and he found my ds and 2ds. Sitting right there, advance wars. So not sure I'm gonna buy this. Well not for 59.99. May wait for a sale.
That's totally fair, of course. I still have my old copies as well.
The game is worth it if you always wanted to play advance wars For the quality of life improvements
This game was an absolute day one buy. I love the art style. Yes it looks like toys and that's okay. Game has a ton of content and I played the old ones to death. Would be nice to have some more online features but I don't need to play with randoms and none of my friends own the game anyway so playing with AI on infinite maps is fine by me.
I completely agree. I've come around completely on the unit art, and everything else about the game is so clearly passionate, it's great.
Yes.
What do you think of the UI? From my limited time with the game, it feels a little under considered-for example, enemy CO meters not being always visible, the speed-up function not being faster. This feels like one area where the previous games have the edge. Wonder if you agree?
I do agree, absolutely. It's quite annoying having to go into the menu to check enemy meter progress, and there's been times where I'm trying to get more info about enemy units and terrain and can't access it as easily as I remember being able to in the GBA/DS games. I will say tho, I'm happy having a fast forward mechanic at all, can't really complain there as it wasn't something I expected to be included in the first place.
Got my sub, good content.
Much appreciated chief! I do my best. :D
This looks really fun!
It is Ticonite, I can confirm! :D
Maybe it's just me, but the partial voice acting is driving me nuts. I can't stand them voicing a paragraph, to a sentence, to a word, to a grunt for 2 sentences, randomly in any order.
I agree the voice acting itself is also just passable. It's really noticeable when you activate your power and they just kind of say the power name, without much impact.
Tbh I don't think the unit style itself is bad, except the infantry. Their animations are pretty bad, especially when they capture things.
Also there is some frame rate drops. Slightly hard to notice, mostly happens using speed up. Especially noticeable on the AW1 final battle.
"Unfinished" is the new buzzword anyone who just wants to complain for no reason uses.
It doesn't mean anything. Anyone who has ever coded or created something will know that nothing is ever "finished" to begin with. It's simply meaningless.
Something can be rushed, but saying something is unfinished just shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
Sorry, I needed to rant for a sec.
No need to apologize, you're good! I agree as well, I hardly feel that the models look unfinished. I quite like them as I've grown used to them. But it is a sentiment some of my viewers had, so I figured it was worth mentioning.
@@TitaniumLegman Haha, I hope you didn't think the rant was adressed directly at you, as it wasn't the case at all. But reading it again, it's tone does make it confusing, so I wanted to make sure there's no misunderstanding.
Since I didn't mention it before, nice video btw. I saw other people compliment it already, but the tldr is one heck of a power move. Respect earned.
@@miwestraveler3986 Oh no worries, I didn't feel attacked or targeted or anything, all is well chief! 👍 And thank you for the kind words, I do my best to make compelling content that still respects people's time.
I wish you could switch to the old artstyle.
Its not exciting when you see the same CO power for a 100th time in a game
The art is to cartoony? This type of art is something i like for a not-Grimm Dark game like Days of Ruin. Days of Ruin always was darker and more grimm than it´s predecessors.
That is why, the original AW and Days of Ruin should have diffrend art stiles in the end.
is there a campaign selection after you complete the game?
You can select what missions you want to run freely once you beat the campaign, if that's what you mean.
Wish I had a Nintendo. Seems like I have been missing out on some good strategy games
"a Nintendo" ok boomer
Don't do that DJ. No need to be rude, in my comments or elsewhere.
And for you prauz, yes absolutely there have been some GREAT strategy offerings on the Switch recently. More of them have come to PC lately, such as Triangle Strategy and of course Tactics Ogre, but Nintendo is returning to some of their roots.
If you don’t believe in “glorifying war” then don’t make war games.
