    The dial looks like a kitchen countertop, but the overall concept and options on the Sharkdiver make it a winner.

      Yeah, I could just eat off it... 🤤 That’s the thing though, whatever option you wanted, it’s there. There are even carbon fiber dials for the brass models floating around. Whatever your preference, there’s a model for you.

    • @masqueman01
      @masqueman01 6 років тому

      ha ha. The versatility they offer is staggering! This design is very slab-sided in construction with sharp edges (on purpose). It's a brutalist take on a tool diver. I happen to like the looks so that is not a slam. It's just a different approach than a multi-faceted or beveled, polished Seiko for example. I'm gonna give them a closer look, especially in the smaller sizes.

      Oh, did you go for Black or Blue? I had to get the black model... It's truly *the perfect tool watch,* in my humble opinion, and black felt most appropriate. I'm wearing it now actually. I may do a follow up, as the bracelet changes the look entirely (if it was a 10/10, it's now an 11/10).

    Really happy to see Helson getting some recognition from you, I've always said for a long time that the Shark Diver is the best micro out there and the best tool watch. I love mine to death. You need to get your hands on a 42 or 45, even if just to borrow and feel it out. They are completely different beasts from the 40 or 38. ESPECIALLY the bracelet.
    If you have the wrists for it, the 45mm is unbeatable value. 2000m WR, anti-magnetic to 70,000 A/m, Automatic helium escape valve, and ratcheting divers extension bracelet for under $630. Isn't that unbeatable? Also my strap still smells glorious even after over years.

      I have to say, I love the bracelet/clasp design here. The locking system is extremely similar to my Sinn 556 (which is a good thing). It’s one of the better bracelets I have had the pleasure of owning, the one featured on my recently acquired SS 40 ETA in Black. I cannot go back to wearing this on anything else. It’s simply incredible.

    Happy to see the review and that you love it! There are people on WUS that have 7 versions. The blue will soon be mine! The cool thing is that the SS have a lumed bezel. Also, the brand is actually the persons name, Peter Helson. The factory that makes these is called Fullswing and is based in Hong Kong. They also make Armida watches.

    Very cool long awaited review. I've been aware of Helson for a while, but this may be the closest look I've seen of one from a review. I think you have a very cool and unique example. A 2nd Shark Diver?! You are head over heels for this one! Please do share the 2nd one whenever you get it. Be curious to see how the 2nd Shark Diver is like.
    Helson has been a very well regarded microbrand. One of the best and favorite to many who appreciate microbrands. I've even heard many people who own Rolex Submariners, Omega Seamaster, etc.. they will get a Helson for actual dive and general rugged usage.
    I have to admit, I was surprised there were so many case size options. I was always under the impression they were mostly all 42mm and up on the larger side of watch cases. Has it always been this way or somewhat recent expanding the case size options? that's very cool and unique. I don't think any other brand offers such variety of case sizes for a specific watch model.

    • @stimpackedmarines
      @stimpackedmarines 6 років тому +2

      Wing Yip the 38mm version was only released less than a month ago, due to the size trend returning back to smaller cases. It also has a slightly different lug shape than all of the others though.

      No, I can’t peg another company that takes their mainline series and makes it *this* accessible. I couldn’t be more impressed with the Stainless Steel model. I plan to talk on it later, but I’ll let this video sink in before giving my thoughts on the stainless steel variant I purchased.

    • @stimpackedmarines
      @stimpackedmarines 6 років тому

      @patrick Have you tried their ratcheting divers clasp yet? I don't believe it's on the 40mm, but comes standard on the 42 and 45 steel models. Not only are the bracelets on those models beefier and better feeling, the clasp is absolutely amazing for the people like me whose wrist seems to change whole inches depending on the weather and my diet :P Really let's you nail any length on the fly in an instant, which you can't even do with Rolex's glidelock. You have to actually take off the watch and manipulate it with your fingers, while Helson's clasp is just a light pinch away without the watch ever leaving your wrist!

  • @taazen74
    @taazen74 5 років тому +1

    What do you think of the 45mm and, was it 18mm thick? And a depth to 2000 meters? I'm thinking of getting it for around $600.00 including shipping. Would you say that's a good deal? I have 3 other Bronze watches for the same price, around $5-600. It's the "Zelos Abyss 2", "Heroic 18 M9400" and "Lum-Tec Combat B18 ". Hope sooo much you can help me out a little, please. 🙏

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  5 років тому +1

      That sounds like a good deal, if you can rock a 45mm watch, go for it. Those models you mention are all unique in their own right, so it seems like a valid addition to the collection. 👌

    • @taazen74
      @taazen74 5 років тому +1

      @@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett,they all sure do. I might get them all at one point. I won the "Zelos Abyss 2", so that became my first Automatic Bronze Watch in my collection. As I think of it, it's a very special watch to an great price. This has to be with me forever since it's my first one.😊. I just hope sooo much that I will get use to it wearing it on my wrist. The size is great at 43mm, it the height at 19mm, hmmm, that's the BIG question. The only thing I miss on this watch is that it doesn't have the minutes/seconds marks for an accurate time. It's just little important for me, but.....I can always use the other bezel to check the minutes ore to get it right when I adjust it. Anyway, it's a piece of art and great achievement, so this is an legendary watch I think. Especially for the price. Looking forward to see more reviews from you, and thankyou so much for getting back to me. That means a lot. I'm now a full follower of your channel. I'll get back to you, amd I hope you will review a lot of Bromze watches. Maybe those I mentioned? That would be perfect. 😉🙏🌠✌

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 років тому

      It can, yes. I'm uncertain of the exact compound here, but brass will turn green with time. It's the *copper* mixture of brass that, when oxidized, creates a green patina.

      I agree, I paid about $50.00 more than that for my Squale 1521 50 atmos with Swiss movement, Italian rubber, sapphire crystal and 500m rating plus the reputation, warranty and heritage. I like the watch in SS but in my humble opinion I would value it at no more than US$300.00 to US $350.00 which is higher than other Chinese micro brands making similar watches. Also the 500m rating is not independently certified and is far below any usable depth. As far as I know the watch isn’t even iso rated like seiko divers to 200 meters but I’m happy to be corrected on that.

    • @danielf4862
      @danielf4862 6 років тому

      Noosa Mike You are right, however the sense I get from browsing the forums is that Helson quality is better then Squale. There is zero heritage, but they make it up in quality.

    • @stimpackedmarines
      @stimpackedmarines 6 років тому

      @noosa mike SWISS movement, ITALIAN rubber. CHINESE microbrands. I'm sensing a pattern. Clearly you've never handled the watch but it seems like you're focused an awful lot on geography rather than quality, willing to praise or pass a watch based on the name of the country and your biased idea of what Swiss or Chinese mean. Yet another dumb racist opinion to ignore.
      If you disagree, please tell me how "Italian rubber" is superior to the CUDA included with Helsons, other than "the fact that it's Italian".

  • @danielf4862
    @danielf4862 6 років тому

    Do you think that any of the curved CrafterBlue rubber straps would fit the Helson? The Sumo and MM300 are 20mm.

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 років тому

      I don't imagine so... Though, the curvature of the MM300's lugs could be proportionally the same, where the drilled area for the spring bars lie may be slightly off. If it rests closer to the case, you could shave off that part of the rubber, but any distance the other the direction and that's money down the drain. I only own a CB Turtle strap, so I couldn't test this myself.

    Hi Patrick thats a great looking watch and I love the channel content. Any chance of you doing a review on the Seiko 6105 homage the Sharkey Apocalypse? I love the 6105 but don't have the funds at the minute to purchase. I also am attracted to a 6105 as I want a watch I can take swimming / surfing etc which I am guessing wouldn't be advisable with a vintage piece like the original 6105. If you could recommend any alternatives to the Sharkey that would be great too. I have a SKX but the asymmetrical case of the 6105 is the business! Any help is greatly appreciated, keep up the good work.

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 років тому

      So, I believe we're discussing the 6105-8110/-19, in which case... Yeah, they're very overpriced currently. I've owned the lesser known 6105-8000, and it's a fantastic watch - also, contrary to what many believe, with a full service and replacement of gaskets the watch is still worthy to swim/surf with - but neither the movement or case detailing "truly" demand the $1.5-1.8 asking price I see these fall into now... I purchased the 8000 model I owned for around $500 a year or so back and low and behold they've blown up (must be some new articles floating around the web for these second gen diver's). I think you're better off with a homage. Also, wait for it, Seiko *will definitely make a homage to these soon,* along with a variety of "scale accurate" LE's that are outrageously priced and limited, they'll make slightly larger models with the same ubiquitous handset of all the other Prospex Reissued Diver's. They're already down this path, so it's not a stretch to imagine. I don't foresee reviewing a Sharkey soon, but I have seen them and they appear to be just fine. There's plenty of companies doing homages of the old school Tuna back to the 6105's and Turtles of old. So long as the movement is reliable and the price is right, you should be good.

    • @Conaire_Mc
      @Conaire_Mc 6 років тому

      Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett thanks for the reply, I hope Seiko make a reissue of the 6105 but if it’s the same as the 62mas I won’t have the funds to purchase 😪. The Sharkey interests me as it has the looks and a NH35 movement so cant be bad for the price! Can anyone who owns one verify the 200m water rating is accurate as I want to be able to take it in the water and treat as my summer beater. Thanks again and enjoy the Helson,

    I still think the Christopher Ward C60 Trident 600 is a better value. For the same price as the Helson you get ceramic, Swiss made, and 600m WR. But the customization possible with the Helson is pretty impressive.

      You can get ceramic, sapphire, steel, brass, bronze, *everything* up to aluminum as a bezel insert choice. I simply chose Aluminum as that’s my preference and at $700 for the Stainless Steel version I bought (as mentioned in this video)? It’s a superior deal to my C. Ward Trident Bronze 600, hands down.
      PS-I should add, the prices are straightforward... You’re not waiting for some “Seasonal” or “Holiday” sale to get a good deal. The price is what it is.

      I think Helson made a lot of good decisions with these watches. The endless options are definitely cool. But I don't think they're in the same league as Christopher Ward in terms of design execution. The C60 doesn't look out of place sitting next to significantly higher end pieces, but I can't imagine that's true with the Shark Diver. Maybe some day soon though

      The shark diver also has a nice ratcheting bracelet, anti-magnetism, helium escape valve, 2000m, etc. in their larger sizes. I think that is unbeatable by anyone else on the market for sure.

    Thank you for not giving it fake patina by throwing it in a bag with a hardboiled egg. Kuddos!!!

      So, I sold mine as soon as I received my Stainless Steel variant. Not that I didn’t love the Brass cased version, I simply didn’t want to own two Shark Divers. I’ve owned my current model... Going on a year? Love it. Was wearing it just yesterday, actually! However, I wish I could speak on this one for you. It Latina’d well and came with a better strap/securing bar (hex head screws as opposed to flat head). There are dial options not in stone now as well, so plenty of choices if interested still.

    Hi Patrick! I'm one of your subscribers and I realize this is an old video (not sure if you'll ever read this), but I believe it's the most recent video you made with a Helson watch. I know you hold the company in high regard but was wondering if you could do a video after reading about all of the quality control issues Helson has had with the Sharkmaster 600: forums.watchuseek.com/f74/new-helson-sharkmaster-600-due-october-4749837-101.html
    To save you some time, it was discovered that their 600 m rated diving watch couldn't even stand up to moisture from a nearby shower (arguably the lowest moisture test you could conduct). Many watches were found to be completely open to water ingress and now there are rust issues. IMO, you should inform your viewers on this and not recommend Helson until they have fixed the issues in their testing (they do not test their watches).

      Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett the ETA steel, brass (black) and brass (blue Jade) ;)) ... They are superior pieces - I own many higher end brands (Omega, Rolex etc) but my SD gets nearly the most wrisrtime because of the build and my lifestyle, I bike a Lot and when I see water im in it ... Never affraid if it can take it or not :)
      Btw. Which model was it you've ordered ? The second piece ? And try em (if you haven't already) on a thick distressed cognac colored strap ... It pools superb :))

      I find myself biking with these quite a bit as well! I ordered an ETA 40mm Black Shark Diver. *Could not* be happier. Best watch purchase as of late.

    Here's why I disagree. While I think it's awesome that Helson provide such a wide range of customoization at affordable prices, I don't think that makes it s great tool watch. There might be 100 different combinations you can choose from, but that will never affect you once you've got the watch on your wrist. At that time, it doesn't matter if there's 2 other size available or different bezel materials. All that matters is how the watch performs on the wrist. And I don't believe there is really one "best" tool watch. I know I'm being a little nitpicky, but that's just my 2 cents.

      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  6 років тому

      This and my newest addition are performing quite admirably, one with it’s NH35 and the other with it’s ETA2824 (which is one of the highest regarded movements ever made, with as many clones as the Rolex Submariner). I think it’s safe to say it comes down to personal opinion, as this and all it’s variations offer the most diverse, reliable (500m being the shallowest depth of WR) and affordable (for it’s accessories/capabilities) tool watch series on the market. *You like it or you don’t.* My point being, Helson’s making it hard not to like.

      Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett You make a good point, Pat. And I agree that Helson is providing some great value for money. They sure are great tool watches, I guess I just meant the actual watch should speak for itself, not the many options in a collection. However, I'm sure they do. I've heard good friends and of course yourself speak very highly of these watches given the price. I did not mean to degrade Helson in any way with my comment. Anyway, love your work here on this channel keep it up.
      Cheers

    How much did they pay you though? That dial is hideous and legibility is bad.
