    This train used to take 3 hours 30 minutes back in 2005/6. But then an accident happened in the potohar region where the train derailed on a steep curve. The average speed used to be 120kph but after that accident they reduced the speed a lot. Especially in the potohar region where in some sections the speed is maximum 65~70kph. There are plans to upgrade the infrastructure to dual lane and reduce the amount of curves in the track. Lets see how many centuries it takes to do that :)

    As an Indian, seeing Chai for Rs 100 gives a bit of a heart attack, cuz it's about Rs 10-15 in India. It was after seeing the £0.28 that I realised the crash of Pakistani Rupees. £0.28 would be about Rs 28 in India, approx, which is still an expensive Tea, but at least not hilarious. Anything is cheaper than the £3.75 at Pret in Paddington, so I'll take that.

I expected this train to be on the level of some of the most neglected and overcrowded trains out there, but it turns out to be pretty decent :)
    I don't know how Pakistan's economy is, but the train ticket seems quite expensive to me. The cheaper 2nd class seats are cheaper, so I hope those are pretty affordable

    • @TheSkcube
      @TheSkcube 4 місяці тому +1

      There doesn't seem to be a direct flight, so they just have buses to compete with.
      While it says first class, I would say that the seating and service are more comparable to an AC chair car on India railways and a similar trip would cost around the same on Indian railways.
      The business class has more privacy that the first class, though I am guessing it's not air conditioned.

    Thank you for this beautifully atmospheric video and this intimate perspective of rail travel in Pakistan. Though as a brit-pak, I have to say I find it quite melancholic. I can't help but see the lost past/future that could have been - the old grand station in disrepair with non-functioning ticketing and ads instead of a departure board, the aged 'super deluxe parlour' class, old semaphores, decaying tracks and trains, an unconnected Islamabad/RP/Lahore - each the result of decades upon decades of mismanagement/myopia/incompetence, and a corrupt contemptuous elite that have looted the country and its people.
    prob doesn't help i nearly fell into a moving shithole of doom on one too lol. As a kid, I had to take a shiet and the the toilet was just a (pretty big) hole, from which you could see straight through to the tracks hurtling by underneath, and with the floor heavily 'lubricated' as you approached it with nothing to hold onto. While squatting I could barely stay balanced/align my butt with the hole, the bumpy train could barely stay aligned with the tracks, and the previous users weren't very successful either :s
