The fictional town name of Royston Vasey in the show is actually the real name of the legendary comedian Roy chubby Brown, he does have a part in the show, but get on to his live stand up, he really is the best.
My favourite line: 'It's a shit business' and parts: When Iris explains to Mrs Levinson why she won't buy expensive panties... and any Job Centre scene :D
Still remember seeing the trailers for this show in the late 90s. It looked crazy and it didn't disappoint. The highlight was seeing their live show around 2000/2001.
The name of the village Royston Vasey comes from the real name of English comedian Roy Chubby Brown who also starred in it as the Mayor. Ironically it was filmed near Sheffield where an upcoming Roy Chubby Brown show has just been cancelled by the local council
Some of it was filmed in Bacup as well, rumour has it they were going to film more of it there but it was too much like a real Royston Vasey. I don't blame them they still have coconutters there.
They are all based on real people and I was actually on that re-start course with Reese . it`s obviously exaggerated for comic purposes but not by much . Charlie and Stella Hull where also a local couple hence the last name (I`m From Hull )
I lived in the town where it was filmed - they used to film in my school during the summer. Many a time I bunked off school and sat in the Royston Cafe
This is one of the best british comedy series. The darkness, the details, the easter eggs..... I can watch it over and over. Next check out Psychoville, for another thrilling ride of the macabre comedy trail.
One of funnist shows ever from me teenage years! Used to quote this show all time with me mates 😂 glad u got round to this show bud u gonna love it 🇬🇧👍
I visited Hadfield the location Royston Vasey was based upon, it's surprisingly difficult to get to and when you are there, so few signs to find the way out, so it felt like I was never going to leave!
This show was very funny, but extremely strange. I’m interested to see if you will get it. I do remember years ago, while the show was running, I was living in a fairly small town during an election, and the slogan for one of the people running was “a local candidate for local people.” I never knew if they took inspiration from the show, or just didn’t realise.
Reece Sheersmith, Steve Pemberton and Mark Gatiss play all the main roles with a few appearance from Jeremy Dyson. All 4 of them write it together. Sheersmith and Pemberton now write and star in the brilliant 'Inside number 9'. Mark Gatiss was writing and appearing in Dr Who and Sherlock, he most recently starred in Game of Thrones as the head of the Iron Bank. Dyson created and wrote the west end show Ghost Stories along with it's movie adaptation. 4 very talented guy's. Also don't forget to check out the League of gentlemen Christmas special, it's brilliant like an old horror movie.
Hi Josh, just to let you know, the scenes with Mr Chinnery the Vet are a play on "All Creatures Great and Small" a series of books about a Yorkshire vet that was turned into a popular TV show in the 80s and has recently been adapted again.
I'm so glad you finally got around to TLoG. One of my favourite shows ever, and such an amazing achievement for all of them. It's a classic of British comedy, and yes, weird as all hell, lol. The League has four members, three of whom play most of the characters:- Steve Pemberton - Writes and acts. Plays Tubbs the wife in the local shop. Also writes and acts in Psychoville and Inside No. 9. Mark Gatiss - Played both the "burnt boy" and the police officer in the local shop. Also writes for and acts in Doctor Who and Sherlock. Reece Shearsmith - Writes and acts. Plays Edward the husband in the local shop. Also writes and acts in Psychoville and Inside No. 9. Jeremy Dyson - Writes the show, doesn't act, but has a few cameos. There's a lot here referencing other British TV shows, but it's not necessary to get the links, as the comedy speaks for itself.
Such an English show, it was fascinating to watch what you thought of it... normally one might say, "Its a local show..... for local people, you know."
Yes! Thank you for checking this out! I recommend also their shows Psychoville and Inside No 9 too! Also, it's three main actors that also write the show with another writer too.

Great show , I saw them live to . You still have a lot of great characters to come , Pops, Papa Lazarou, Herr Lip, Les McQueen, Iris the cleaner, to name but a few . Between the three of them they play nearly 100 characters !
The Christmas special is superb too. Possibly the best comedy Christmas special I’ve ever watched. Worth keeping in mind for a reaction vid this Christmas!

I'm obsessed with The League of Gentlemen. Lol The League are Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson. He only has blink-and-you'll-miss-it parts. Obviously, you'll need to watch Psychoville and Inside No. 9. Sooooo unbelievably good.

That Neil Degrasse Tyson shirt tho... Oh and the mayor is played by Roy Chubby Brown (real name Royston Vasey btw), a REALLY coarse comedian. I highly recommend Chubby Goes Down Under (And Other Sticky Places), a tour of Australasia and South Asia.
I come from a very small Welsh village on top of a mountain & growing up I always referred to it as Roystan Vasey. It got to the point that when my husband joined me on a trip home to meet my parents he asked (as he’s not from the Uk) in front of them & their friends from the village “so…what IS Roystan Vasey? Cause Rabbit keeps saying THIS is Roystan Vasey…is it a Welsh phrase?” Oppps hehehe

Once you get League of Gentlemen...you'll never leave! I wasn't into it when it first aired in the UK but a girlfriend bought me the box set of DVDs and I have watched every episode more than once. The level of creativity and writing is fantastic, the characters are frequently based on people they met (eg.
