The great timpanist Kurt Hans Goedicke has absolutely put his finger on the pulse of what it is like to play at the very top of the game .... The Red Arrows fly precision with, what is it, 9 aircraft. We act as one, as a team of 90 to 100 musicians ....... I am pleased to see he is alive and well and, by all accounts, passing on his amazing knowledge to the generations that follow
@@someguythatsucksatdrumstan1510 The mystery continues! I was briefly a student of Nigel's a couple of years ago so I could try to ask him if he knows who it was. I heard that Russell Jordan (ex LPO, currently Royal Opera House) did cover with the LSO a bit when they were in between timpanists, so I wonder if it was him.

And still teaching today. My son is in his first year at RCS and is in Kurt’s department
I love how there's a trumpet player in the background practicing the fugal section of Also Sprach Zarathustra.
Did Kurt stay on for the Episode II soundtrack or had he left at that point?
No. He left the LSO in 2000
My question is then who played timpani for that movie?
@@someguythatsucksatdrumstan1510 I'd imagine Nigel Thomas, the current timpanist.
@@AidanMmusic96 I don't think so. He joined the LSO in 2003. John Williams didn't score episode II until 2002, in january.
