Growing up in South Louisiana, I understand and feel their pain. My heart really does go out to them. When I was a kid, I loved watching Night Court. They had an episode of a hurricane about to hit New York. At that time, I'd never seen a hurricane hit that far north. I want to say the farthest north I'd seen one hit was Hugo and that was about it. They probably had 1 or 2 hit when I was a teen playing football. Back then I didn't really watch anymore TV. It was football, baseball or basketball practice and then homework. I think the first storm I saw hit the northeast was Sandy. I wanna say it was a subtropical system and it merged with a front. When it meged, it became the largest storm in the Atlantic Ocean ever recorded. Back in 1988 I saw the hurricane named Gilbert and how powerful of a storm it was. Gilbert would have the title strongest hurricane ever recorded at that time. I became a hurricane watcher after that. That recorded that Gilbert had would eventually get broken. As an electrician I was out in the field working due to Katrina and Rita damage. Hurricane Willma would break Gilbert's record in 2005. Anyways, I could go on and on about Hurricanes, but I'm sure maybe 1 or 2 people might be interested if that. So I'll finish with may all of your dreams come true, peace love and cheerios
If water raises 6-inches to a foot above the car floor, this very well could be considered enough damage for the car to be totaled as a flood damaged car. The flood waters in the car interior causes black mold in the carpet, shorts out and corrodes electrical connections that are not water-proof in the interior of the car and costing more money to repair; making it a total loss by car insurance company. States will not register cars that are flood damage and list the cars as salvage and not operable on the road.

They probably do. But i don't think you can prepare for what is coming. Not truly. There is a point at which the cost of the infrastructure to prevent it exceeds the costs of repairing the damage. considering this is likely to be mild compared what is coming on the next decades is likely you will see some prioritization of what is re-engineered to be saved and some things that are just sacrificed as loss. Manhattan not only needs to invest in flooding protection against heavy rainfall but also and probably more importantly against flooding from sea level rise. I would expect this to happen more often in the future regardless of their efforts to mitigate it. At this point in the evolution of Climate change one has to be ready for this kind of thing at a personal level. Governments won't be able to fully cope with the size and speed of it.

However, before humans came along and paved over the land, the rain just seeped into the green earth and absorbed in. When we came along and paved the planet, turning what was once marsh into a concrete environment right near the ocean, the water has nowhere to seep into, so we get flooding. And because what was once marsh and near the ocean is so close to sea level, the sea will come up higher into the concrete paradise we created. You can't put the genie back in the bottle. You can't undo technology. All of this flooding is a result of natural rainfall, necessary to replenish the planet, but the really bad effects of it are the fault of us humans. If we're the closest species made in God's image, he made us to mess up his beautiful blue orb. Did the denizens of the deep create the plastic and all the other pollution in their environment - the oceans? If man ceases to exist and the planet grows over all the concrete to its former pristine beauty and the next dominating life form sprouts up and becomes the custodians of this planet, hopefully they'll live in harmony with nature. This is mind blowing for me, after working inside a school in Bayonne, NJ(the whole day). I took the bus to the city to grab some things and it was clear, no water, no rain but noticed that a lot of restaurants ad shops were closed. They all had sings “due to storm” but it looked like nothing happened when I arrived around 4:30pm.

Well, technically it's better to have saturated ground than dried out ground when it comes to taking in rain. Dry ground takes really long to absorb water. If the ground is still wet, it gets absorbed much quicker.
I'd put my money on the dry soil, personally. Ground that's already heavily-saturated from previous storms will not be able to hold excess water. If you take some mud and quickly throw a few gallons of water on it, the mud isn't going to soak up much of that extra water.
How do the electric cars handle so much water, Tesla model 3 etc, the batteries could short circuit. Obviously people are more important, stay dry.., hopefully people who are in 2 floor and above are lucky

This is mind blowing for me, after working inside a school in Bayonne, NJ(the whole day). I took the bus to the city to grab some things and it was clear, no water, no rain but noticed that a lot of restaurants ad shops were closed. They all had sings “due to storm” but it looked like nothing happened when I arrived around 4:30pm.

Well, technically it's better to have saturated ground than dried out ground when it comes to taking in rain. Dry ground takes really long to absorb water. If the ground is still wet, it gets absorbed much quicker.
I'd put my money on the dry soil, personally. Ground that's already heavily-saturated from previous storms will not be able to hold excess water. If you take some mud and quickly throw a few gallons of water on it, the mud isn't going to soak up much of that extra water.
How do the electric cars handle so much water, Tesla model 3 etc, the batteries could short circuit. Obviously people are more important, stay dry.., hopefully people who are in 2 floor and above are lucky
