Great video Tom good job your quick on you feet, looking at when you picked him up I thought he was a bit lame then could be just me as I am not a farmer . Keep the videos coming and Happy Farming
Your highlands are all really great around you! Mr. Bull is such a mellow one, all around. A better crush would support him. Good luck with the bulling.
Nicely done with the foot Tom, them mobile crush's are a pain to move on the tines, noticed the rails had to be adjusted before moving on the manitu, and who left that tractor in the road? ha ha, all that space and its never enough.
Thank god you didnt get kicked in the head tom mate that would have hurt i always wondered how you dealt with highland cattle when there is a little problem keep up the good work pembertons the future is bright for you guys 👍
That's a very different chute than the ones I've seen stateside. I like how it has plenty of room for the horns. A cousin and uncle of mine raise this breed of cattle on a very small scale. I'm sure they would have a use for such a piece of equipment if they ever found one.
You need a chain across the rump of the bull, winch the leg up against the chain and stops them kicking back.Only trouble now is you've got to remove the bandage and he's not going to be keen on going in the crush again.
From what I’ve learned of the hoof go, it’s the bigger side that has the problem- because they are not stepping on it(because it hurts) it gets more grown then the other side..
For the future and you have to something like this again. Tie string to gate jump man 2 push gate with Man2 but you can shut gate with string. Oh Cardu is a bloody good malt up here in Scotland.
Another brilliant Video Tom. Keep it up and you got lucky 😂 unlike me brushing a horses tail😂😱🤣🤦🏼♂️ that did hurt! Im not even going to say were it hit me😫 EDIT: it wasn’t a powerful kick it was a little tap but it bloody hurt 🤕
i may be wrong but when you went pick him up from where he comes from as he was walking out stall into trailer he looked like a slight barely there issue with back /feet and prob got worse just wondering were you learnt to do the feet would a block of helped if it was worse than was
Great job Tom, lovely young placid bull. Why do some of the Highlands have their horns pointing down and some have them pointing up? Which is the show version or does it matter?
Wow. You’re fair lucky the cow didn’t get stuck On the pallet forks while you were tending to the bull Tom. Maybe keep them stock safe next time. Stay nearer the bull and you ll get less kicks
I love your music choices. Where do you get it from? It is so upbeat. I would like to have a good selection to play while I am doing some work, to keep me going and happy lol.
Another interesting video, good to see you take all precautions and do your husbandry right. Quick question do you milk the Highlands or leave for the calves.
really like the vids...not so keen on the tunes haha, have spent most of the day watching your vids, your cattle are so quiet, might have to change up my music... Next time your looking for a bull, check out Speckled Park, the breed was developed here in Saskatchewan, Canada...great marbling, quiet and look great in the pasture...and they handle a Canadian winter...no small feat. Also, what is the plant I see hanging in your shelters? Have now subscribed and rung the bell, keep them comin'...

I was sore and hungry.....found out I had a 6-7hr snooze...... I was black and blue for about a month and I still cant lift my left arm over shoulder height without pain ......been about..3 years lol

Hey Tom..great Video as every Video from you ;-) By the way, you wear Dunlop Purofort+ rubberboots, what do you think of them?..I wear them too, but I have the other Dunlop Purofort Professional as well...Best wishes from Germany,..Gerrit ;-)
I figured out why I stopped watching your videos. I suffer from chronic pain and often wake in the night. I liked your videos. Brought me back to my childhood on a small cow/calf, grass fed and baby beef farm in Northern Ontario in Canada. I stopped because it's just too much trouble raising the volume to hear what you say - and I really want to hear what you say, but then I'd have to quickly stop the video and turn down the volume before disturbing anyone else in the house. Now I'm watching during the day and still, l find it annoying! It would be so much nicer if you could turn the volume down to the same level as the verbal parts. The content is all I need to keep me awake and watching!
George Goertzen Thanks for the advice george, I’m trying to use less music now as I got abit reliant on and people like it with out which is great for me 😀 so your saying turn the volume down for it aswel when I do use it?
@@TomPembertonFarmLife it would be nice if I didn't have to keep turning the volume down for the music, then I have to turn it back up and 'rewind' just to hear what you say. I'm not fond of your music choices but I'm in my 60's, so that's no surprise, but I can't even use headphones to keep from disturbing or waking my daughter-in-law at 3am as having it at a volume to hear your voice is just plain painful when the music comes blasting up - so please, just keep it at or maybe just slightly above the volume of your voice. My ears thank you.
George Goertzen No problem at all, I need good and bad feed back so I can improve the videos all the time. Thanks for letting me know, in the new one I only have about 15/20 seconds and have put it to about 20% volume for the music. Hopefully that’s better
Why don't you have a crush where you can lift the foot and tie it down onto a block so you can work on it. Seems very dangerous having a animals foot flying around near your head. Safety first Tom, well worth getting one.
Older video, but I must comment. Similar intervention of small problems with humans, a small toe nail problem can completely disable a human. An ingrown toenail can kill you. Sounds ridiculous but and abscess tooth, or toenails if you don’t treat it is a very serious health issue. Your timely treatment puts out a small fire before it’s an out of control fire. Seems common sense but it’s a very important lesson.
Please be careful. Here in the States, we romanticize police work. But it's not listed as one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs. Farmers, Ranchers and Agricultural Managers rank No. 8 (Logging is No. 1). When I was agricultural reporter, I had to write about a farmer who was killed while plowing on an incline sideways. The tractor toppled over, pinning the man. He bled to death. Perhaps you could add a harness device to restrict the animal's ability to kick. Just a thought.
Glad u got the foot done but the positioning of urself while doing it is an accident waiting to happen 🙄☹️ important thing is u treated the foot and u didn't get hurt
@@christophersheridan494 don't be so stupid. Avoiding getting kicked is basic safety. If Tom gets a hoof to his head he won't have to worry about doing anything on the farm again
@@christophersheridan494 I am a farmer! and that is certainly not true here. A serious injury from not taking a few mins to do it safely could mean you won't be farming in the future. I get what you mean. Always a lot to do and maybe short cuts are taken but no job is above safety.
