I remember that commercial, can’t wait to make this Linda. You and Sam had a good laugh over his rendition of the commercial. I do love a crispy skin. Thanks for the big batch recipe we can keep in the fridge or freezer for future use.
I’ll try this one. I tried one a couple weeks ago with bread crumbs & it was yuk! 😂 My mama used to use cornflakes after Daddy started having heart attacks. As best I remember, that made a nice, crispy crust. I need to find her recipe.
Linda, we don't have Saltine crackers over here but we do have Ritz, would they work as a substitute? Or are Saltines more like Water biscuits, hard & cracky rather than flaky? If you brushed the Chicken lightly with the Oil rather than adding it to the powders, would that make the mixture shelf stable? The constituents are all happy enough in your pantry after all? The Oil is there presumably to make the mixture stick to the meat, right? Thanks.
Saltines are crispy...there's a difference but I'll bet Ritz will work also. I believe you're right about the addition of the oil. I was suppose to moisten the chicken before I added it to the bag....I didn't. That may be why I had a hard time getting enough to stick.
I had no idea they still made Shake 'n Bake until I saw the Original Chicken flavor at Ollie's and bought one for old times' sake. I'll just say I liked it a lot better as a kid. I don't know if they changed the recipe or if my tastes have changed (probably both). This video would be a lot better if you edited it.
