- Welcome back to another episode of Restorations with Vick. This week Vick works his craft on a player edition Mike Bibby Jordan 13 low.
For the restoration process to go well, the shoe needed to be cleaned thoroughly. Vick broke out the RESHOEVN8R Signature Kit, and his 16 oz bottle of solution - the big boy! Typically we recommend not getting suede wet, especially colored suede, but with the amount of dirt on this shoe we had no other choice. Using the soft bristle brush on the uppers, Mr. Almighty was careful to not oversaturate the purple suede - thankfully it did not bleed! From there he moved on to the midsole and pods using the medium bristle brush, and the stiff bristle brush took care of the outsoles.
After the scrub down, the shoe was much cleaner, but not clean enough for Vick to feel comfortable enough to start the restoration process. To the washing machine they went! Using the patented RESHOEVN8R laundry bag, Vick let the kicks go throw a cold-water cycle to help get the rest of the dirt out of the shoe. Please be aware - doing this with an older shoe can cause damage. It can also cause suede to bleed or discolor. Vick was aware of these risks and confident in his ability to restore any issues that came up!
After coming out of the washing machine, he noticed a big improvement, but the sock liners and parts of the uppers still had a dingy yellow look to them, so Vick allowed them to dry in his UV set up for 24 hours. As you could see from the before and after photos, this was WIN! However, the pods on the midsole had an annoying purple tint that Vick wanted to get rid of. Trying to bring back that bright white original coloring, Vick attempted a peeling method using Barge superstick cement. Unfortunately, this part of the mission failed!
As old as they shoes were, it was no surprise that separation had begun to occur, so Vick removed all of the old glue and replaced it using a new can of Barge superstick. Good as new! After giving the uppers a new paint job (using a drop of black and brown mixed with white paint) the job was all but complete! The final touch touch… a silver sharpie to restore up the Jumpman logo on the back of the shoe!

I actually used a white paint marker from walmart on the pods one time about 2 years ago when I 1st started and they are still holding up great. They look brand new.

this may sound silly af but Colgate toothpaste always works for me when whitening the midsoles for 13s. just make sure you dont get it on the suede part otherwise it could ruin it. leave it in your UV box for at least 10-12 hrs then your midsoles will be in "mint" condition.... lol but for real it works!

@@RESHOEVN8R for sure! Oh and use Saran Wrap so the toothpaste doesn’t dry out! And if you feel like it could go longer in the ice box then do a second session of 10-12 hrs.
I only used acetone to remove some stains on the rubber midsole of my shoe and it worked. Hopefully, this will also work on others.

Had this problem on my 13's as wild as this sounds, tape off the suede and spray the pods with white plastidip. Easy to use and more importantly easy remove if you're unhappy with the results just a quick peel off with little trouble and no cracking. Just stick to light coats and it shouldn't look caked or anything. Mine have been holding on really well and its been a couple years now.

I dyed my Royal 1s midsole with random splash of tomato Spaghetti Sauce in the supermarket when I dropped a glass container by accident, even the stitching was stained but some q-tips dipped in a good bleach removed all the stains and made the midsole bright white again
could you just have used oxi clean? I used it to fix the yellowing on a pair of tiffs. came out great.

No doubt you’re the expert but I used Angelus white acrylic paint on my 13 pods and they haven’t chipped. The paint adhered really nicely and and it’s been over a year now 🤷♂️

If I ever want to unyellow sneakers, it has to be with the indoor setup. In NYC, we can’t just whiten sneakers to use them only in 2-3 months of the year…lol. Especially since the sneakers yellow again within a month after the treatment.
I met Mike Bibby and got his autograph twice. He was at the U of Arizona at the time.

How do you guys clean your brushes? I try cleaning mine but I can never get them completely clean
Wash them out and then dry them bristles facing down.

I use tap water in the middle, not hot, not cold, and rise them out a few times and run my fingers through them to help break up the bristles and get the remainder of the stuff out of them. Then I use the cleaning towel in the kit and brush back and forth 3-5 times with each brush to just grab the bulk excess water off. Then set in the drying rack to drip dry for a day.

There is a hand cleaner called goop that I used to remove a receipt stain off of a clear icy outsole of my Pantone Jordan 11 the process takes days and it is very gradual to fade but it does work

That is the usual method for yellowing , because these were purple not yellow, the method wouldn't have worked as well.
