Suspect this is one of those marmite situations where you either love it or hate it. I've only quickly scanned through the video but I can tell straight away that all the clutter and distraction would totally do my nut in. A nice black background and some subtle scanlines is all i can deal with when i'm playing. I do sometimes wonder if i'm on a spectrum of some sort (not the Sinclair variety sadly). Thanks for the video though - always like to see how folk do their emulation.
Looks really good but (being a Linux user) I still prefer the command line over clunky front ends. So much easier for me to type (eg.) "mame -w berzerk" than to wade through a menu. Good video though for those who may want to use this 😁
Did you ever try mame's HLSL settings? You can tweek these values to make the image look *exactly* like the tubes appeared in your arcade, including bloom, phosphor degradation and loads more options. It uses the GPU to do the effects. You can make it look like a proper knackered old CRT- it's awesome
I'm kinda the same but love this as its tried to recreate the experience of being in an arcade. 😊

Great video Alan. Thanks for giving us a good run through of it. Is it available for raspberry pi?
Looks nice! All that's missing is the ashtrays and the cola stains.
And quarters lined up on the marquee...
