Good morning, friend! 🫶 Today, I want to share some homeschool encouragement with you and a simple decision/introduction we made that changed everything! To be honest, I haven't always loved homeschooling. There have been many tears shed and hard lessons, but God is so faithful, and I am here to tell you, don't give up! It gets sweeter, every single year! ❤
We have 3 parts to our homeschool day; basket time, group subjects, and independent work. The only things that aren't family style are math and language arts. Everything else is done together.
Yes yes yes I 💯 agree. This is my 5th year homeschooling and our unit studies are fun awesome there all learning together and feed off of each other. We also found this in our read aloud time at lunch time. My kids love it and look forward to it. I do individual learning too but I understand exactly what your saying. I never brought curriculum I felt like nah I can do better than that. I love the freedom relax no stressful atmosphere I'm homeschooling 4 kids. The Lord has definitely been ordering my steps. I pulled them out 5 years ago best decision ever.
We do our group subjects together and it is great! However, I’m interested in unit studies where science and social studies are intertwined and with art and so forth. I’ve been doing this for 6 years now and I’m to the point where I’m ready to embrace a more relaxed homeschool. And to implement worship into our mornings. God Bless you! ❤
Hello from Australia. I have 3 boys myself although they are 1, 5 & 7yrs old, so we are in the beginnings still. Love your content...and loved this video! God has been working in me too so this was super encouraging and refreshing to hear. x
We do several unit studies each homeschool year too! They were such a game changer for us and the most enjoyed part as well. My preschooler joins in with my 8 year old and loves it. We use TG&TB and Campfire Curriculum! CC has brought so much fun in our home and has had me do things I never thought I would ❤️. We’re adding in a Bible study this year and I cannot wait! 😊
Thanks for this video! Unit studies are amazing & a blessing in our homeschool as well! I agree 100% with u on that! This is going to be our 3rd year homeschooling & thanks to you, we have learned about unit studies! When I was researching how to homeschool (details) & how to simplify, your videos were the 1st & you brought so much encouragement & help to get things going for us! Our 1st year, I bought all individual curriculum for each of our 3 children & still haven't touched it much to this day so far, lol.... Shortly after, is when I was encouraged to try unit studies & thats mostly what we have done since then..... We have been using gather round & campfire curriculums so far & love them both. I'd love to make our own unit study, only using the Bible! And yes, individual subjects (or learning anything) & having that 1 on 1 with kiddos is amazing too . The connection & love built with just spending time together is amazing! Since I have removed my kiddos from public schools, we have such a closer relationship & connection with eachother & love spending time together! The discussions we have about anything we go over is amazing & I think theres more learning in the discussions at times, than in the paper worksheets...."connection". Sometimes discussions go on for a long time but is good & healthy for all! Its amazing how simple this homeschooling can really be & relaxed & enjoyable! Plus this is the most natural way to do things, stay home with your kids & raise them up, teach them, train them up instead of having someone else do it. Thanks again for all of your videos & encouragement! 💗
This was so encouraging! I have a 6th grader and a 10th grader and we all really want to continue our unit studies and family studies for morning basket, science, and history, however, I was doubting that we could still homeschool that way with my 10th grader. I can't wait to see your next video on what unit studies you will be using.
Family style learning is the BEST! It fosters deeper relationships between all of us and builds memories of togetherness ❤. I honestly don’t think we’ll ever stop using unit studies.
Well said, Jamie!! ❤❤ love hearing your heart and what the Lord has done in your family and homeschool! I love our family subjects so much as well and have the best memories of the books and things I’ve done with my kids and all the discussions and things we’ve discovered together!
Thanks for sharing! We’re using Gather Round this year with a 10th, 8th, and 6th grader. I’m absolutely loving it, and it’s a beautiful time to have with all of the kids together. I appreciate your sharing in every video 💖
Long unit studies don't work for my kids, in the past we've done Gather round, Campfire Curriculum, Harbor and sprout and they eventually get bored. Brilliantly put together curriculums though. Anyway now i just create my own, shorter ones.
Thank you so much for watching! ❤️ I tell you, I missed out on some precious years early on with my traditional "boxed" mindset...but God is so faithful, and our time together has become sweeter every year since! 🙌❤️
I'm so glad I found your channel! Your videos are so encouraging ❤ I'm a homeschool mama of two boys and I just love doing certain subjects together too! Such a special time 🥰
Jessica! ❤️ I'm so happy you're here! Thank you forwatching! 🌸! I hope you have a wonderful homeschool year. Enjoy soaking up every moment with your sweet boys! 💙💙
This is my second year homeschooling my Littles. Thank you for the video. What do you think about the 4 day homeschool? I'm just now learning about it.
How have you implemented reading with all your boys working around jobs? My oldest now has a job and we have had to carry on often without him which stinks :(
Yes! We are feeling this too, mama! I do try and get most of the reading done before he leaves. We have our mornings/lunchtime together before he leaves. This works best for us! We can do group subjects, reading and independent studies usually before even leaves. Some days we don't get to reading and some days we do! We love reading in the evening as well, when life allows. 💙
Was it gather round or another curriculum that had a list of life skills associated with unit studies? I was interest, but didn’t know where I had seen it laid out that way.
How would that work or what would that look like for little ones? Right now my boys are 3 and 1. My three year old loves learning and reading books. Are there unit studies geared toward young ones? Like kindergarten and first grade age. Of course looking into the future of what’s best for our family
The Good and the Beautiful has unit studies for preschool-2nd, 3rd-8th! Campfire Curriculum is another amazing unit study company that’s story format and geared towards all ages 😊. They’ve brought so much fun and life to our family.
Yes, agreed! There are many unit studies that are for younger kiddos! When mine were that young, we just snuggled and did crafts and read together. CM Simple Studies also has some for K-6!
I really want to do unit studies someday. We do Bible together, learn our hymn, do memory work. But my kids are 1st/2nd grade level work and my other is pre-k. I try to give time to my youngest first but the older grows bored or tries to do everything for the little one so we can get to her work. And then when I’m needing to give direct instruction to my older, my youngest refuses to play independently. Sigh… it’s a new season here as my youngest when to a preschool last year but now he’s home. So….
You are in a different season for sure, and it can sometimes be a difficult one.❤️ You are doing a great job, friend! You are!!! One thing... we used marble runs, magnettiles, busy boxes... all kinds of fun stuff during the younger years to help encourage independent play (with toys only available during homeschool time). We found that if we made specific items only available at certain times, my youngest was excited to get to pick from the busy boxes set aside only for school time. That helped allow me extra time to help my older child at the time. Just a thought! Hang in their mama, you're doing a mighty work! ❤️🤗
Hey there! We use a mix of all things, and I will be sharing out curriculum picks soon! We've used Gather Round unit studies, Campfire Curriculum, CM Simple Studies and more!
Hey! It totally depends on the year! When they were younger, we got through more. Now, we truly go at our own pace and may get to 6 a year if it all works out!

Just started using Gather round and we love it. I have never done unit studies before but I love it already. We are on week 2

My boys love the good and the beautiful science units. The gatherround holiday units have been so good.
Love this! Our shared morning time/family subjects have always been my favorite too!

I only teach math and language arts. Any other subjects are mainly me reading aloud to them as a group.
It is awesome when you reach a happy place 😍
🥰Thanks for the unit study encouragement, God has been putting this on my heart in this upcoming season.💗 Together time is the best imho.🙏
We do the same and absolutely love it❤
Is unit studies a curriculum to buy or can you do this with a BJU press curriculum
This is my second year homeschooling my Littles. Thank you for the video. What do you think about the 4 day homeschool? I'm just now learning about it.
New subscriber here. Love homeschooling.
Welcome, Judy! ❤️ So happy you're here. 🌸
This is lovely advice. What are your favorite elementary history and science unit studies?
Never mind! You answer this in the Video 😊

Gather ‘Round recently released Life Skills! It’s in my cart and I can’t wait to start off our homeschool year with this unit🎉
