- As my review - seriously considering switching to 2020 iPhone SE as my daily driver instead of a flagship (iPhone 11 Pro Max) for the foreseeable future. I'm challenging myself to see if I can do it with the help of my iPad & RX100 VII. Want to join me?
I will be back with you in a week to tell you what I have learned. I'm curious to discover if my usage has evolved to a point that necessitates a flagship experience.

Trying it as I type this but I still prefer the regular 11. We'll see what I end up sticking with.

J T dont u see that the hype for se (media, sites, yt etc) is even bigger than during any flagship release? Dont you eventually get bored just by seeing thousandth „my day in a life with iphone se” kind of video? Why is that such a big deal for people. Wow u will use a freaking phone everyone was using 3 years ago! Worth posting a video definitely! In my opinion no „tech enthousiast” should be bothered by this release at least not to the point where its somehow cool to post this kinda vids

Imagine the SE with an ultra wide camera, a night mode as good as the 11.
That would be a killer phone 🤔

I just switched and it’s so weird but having someone I can use with one hand is huge. Also missed Touch ID a lot.

Yeah, I have an 11 pro max and it looks nowhere near a big in my hands as it does on hers. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.

It’s interesting how the camera matters so much to a lot of people. It’s the least important feature to me. I mean the photo is gonna be looked at for like 2 seconds on social media and then ya done. But that’s me.

0:57 FINALLY someone who appreciated the iPhone 8 for what it was instead of shitting on it for no reason lol. I've been using mine since launch day in 2017 and it's been a fantastic phone!
It's because a lot of muppets have been trained to believe that bezels are disgusting and shouldn't be allowed. Personally I love having some bezels on a phone as it means I can actually pick up and use my phone freely, rather than handling it like a newborn hamster.
The amount of times I have accidentally skipped or fast-forwarded videos and activated apps or features when hurriedly picking up devices like the P30 Pro is insane.

@@fruitymonkey8641 Yep I'm still totally satisfied with mine, still runs like the day I bought it. That said I might finally upgrade later this year. If the iPhone 12 Pro has 120Hz and a smaller notch I'm in.

Your hands are so small. iPhone SE 2020 is actually smaller than it looks in this video.
I traded in my iPhone XR for one. Yep, It has the same screen as the iPhone 11 and XR just smaller. I don’t mind touching the home button instead of the screen and It has raise to wake so I don’t need to tap to wake if I want to see my screen. I actually “LIKE” the bezels for somewhere to put my fingers without triggering an app which is very frustrating sometimes. I think its a good size for one handed operation without having to stretch your finger to something on the screen. The control panel is much more handy coming from the bottom so you don’t have to reach all the way up to the top of the screen. Fingerprint reader is actually faster than Face ID and you can open your phone laying on the table of taking it out of your pocket . I also have a Sony a6000 great camera for carrying and excellent photography... Thank You, great review! 👍😎
Welcome back Erica! I knew you were going to upload a video about the SE. Actually, I will never buy a +$1,000 phone again. If I check the used iPhone market my XS already lost 50% of what I paid in 2018 when brand new, and the XR (which was $300 cheaper) cost just $50 less than the XS in the used market right now, very poor resale value for the XS/XS Max and I suspect the same will happen with the 2019 Pro models.
My XS will need a battery replacement soon and I'm seriously thinking in selling my XS and getting this SE. Otherwise I'll wait for the succesor of the regular iPhone 11.

Here a good tip on getting to a low brightness
Go to Settings - Accessibility - Display and Text Size - Reduce White point
You can adjust how dim the display gets after you turn reduce White point on
I have been using this to use my phone in dim places
I traded my XS for an SE and so far I’m happy. It’s fast, it’s easy and I feel like I’ve sacrificed nothing
Welcome back erica! Truly missed your video's! The SE is truly a great phone especially for what you pay for it, with alot of the same great features as the high end iphones! I can't wait to see your verdict on the device after a week!

Although I do enjoy my 11 promax I am also considering switching to the brand new SE if I do switch to the SE the one thing I will miss for sure about my 11 Pro Max will beThe battery life

I had a se. I switched to the 11 pro max. My se downloaded very slow and I wasnt happy with the battery of the se at all.
I did like the red color and it was nice and light. The se is under clocked and overrated imo
A car owner could do just fine without their car, if they had access to a bicycle, a moped, a train, a bus and a plane. I will follow this because i want to hear what your feelings towards the SE are, but to me the idea behind this experiment lacks a sense of reality.
How so? Spending too much money on a phone, wisening up and selling it, then buying something more sensible? That should be extremely practical
@@EricaGriffin I'm all for not spending a fortune on a phone. I've been running OnePlus the last three years, for that reason. But: Having to consider "do I take the good camera with me?" every time you're going somewhere you'd might feel like taking a picture, is way more of a hassle than simply always carrying the acceptable camera in your phone. ..and in my world, not even counting that I'd have to go buy a good camera and some sort of tablet before I could get going, I'd also have to carry the tablet with me for train journeys, or days where I know I'll have slow periods. ..or get annoyed I don't have it. So.. I'd have to carry two more gadgets, or spend time before leaving debating whether to bring them or not.
I can see how owners of the most expensive iPhones would consider the savings an incentive, but to me this three pieces of hardware setup creates nothing but headaches. If you decide to take that route, I hope you share the way you make it work with us 🙂

The idea isn’t to spend $400 bucks. It’s too sell an expensive phone and get your money back.
Glad to see someone do a real world review. I decided to retire my Xs(256) for the SE (64) Black😊. I have a Canon Power Shot SX620 HS for when I know I’m going to travel or do some photography that requires more than what the Xs or now the SE can provide. AirPods work very well. Even with all the Apps I have loaded, I still have 41GB of storage unused. How? iCloud! My music and Photos are in the 2TB of cloud storage which is more than I will ever use. Like you, I like the size of the SE. I wear Wrangler Cargo pants because they have a Tech pocket for phones. Blue jeans don’t. The SE even with a reasonable case fits very well in the front pocket. While the Xs/11Pro/Max phones aren’t great pieces of tech, Paying $1000+ each year or 2 makes no sense and it is mainly just for a better camera. Great analysis on your part! I realized this in December when I decided to keep my Xs vice moving to the 11Pro. I then bought the Power Shot. The 3 of the 4 12s are going to be huge! One will be only slightly smaller. The SE is a fine phone for those who want a premium small phone for a low price who don’t want or need their phone to everything including the kitchen sink. Ever seen a Swiss Army knife with all the tools? It’s so big that it’s nearly unusable and garish to boot! A more reasonable approach is an iPhone that does the basics well then specialize with tools that do various functions well. My iPad Mini 5 has an 8MP camera. Who cares? No one is going to use an iPad as a camera replacement. No, the iPad is for reading and viewing video content or playing games. Can it take a picture if nothing else is handy? Yes, but it’s not going to be your first choice. Thus is true of the SE. Should it be your first choice for photography? No, it has a very good camera, but it’s for those moments when your real camera isn’t handy. It’s primary purpose is communications. If I want to play games, I’ll do that on my XBOX 1X! The SE is for people who want a small powerful inexpensive iPhone.
All I see is a 4 year old phone with a new processor in it. Yugo with a racing engine, 90 year old with a heart of a 13 year old, honda civic with nitrous, surgeon working as garbage man or even better now, infectious disease doctor working as janitor in a hospital treating covid patients. Yes, that is this phone, infectious disease proffesor doctor working as janitor in a hospital.

Get the NeuralCam app. It gives you the Night Mode capability on really any iPhone as far as I know but I do know it works on the SE and 8. Other apps give 11Pro capabilities on the SE. I couldn’t agree more with your assessment.
That is kinda interesting. I do have a business phone which happens to be an iPhone 7. My private phone is an iPhone 11 Pro. When I was on my iPhone 7 all day at work, I really, REALLY enjoyed coming back to my iPhone 11 Pro. The level of experience is way higher.

I understand when somebody say that iPhone 11 looking like tablet in your hands, but, for numbers that made diferent betwen those two mobile gadgets, I vote for BIGGER brother Erica!
I can bet with you in 1 kilo ice cream, photos form SE model can be enough good or quality like big 11 boy, so try cameras and tell us am I think right or vrong?!

I take it at 1400+ tax you maxed out yeah iPhone 11 Pro you could’ve went to step down I wouldn’t have cost you that much. There’s no doubt that the pro is better but I see what you’re talking about is it 700 or $800 better I think we can say that about all flag ship phones. Samsung wants two grand for the foldable phone is it worth it to some people it is. But seeing Apple Going back to the square style which was my favorite yeah iPhone four and five and they’re giving you a wide range of prices I think I have to go to that style because this phone looks too much like an android
Hummm, coming from the iPhone Pro Max is a tough sell. Although I commend you for a least trying. I predict the two biggest hang ups will be low light camera performance, and battery life. The new SE is amazing for its price though.
Spoiler alert, she kept both phones! Can’t give up that larger screen for consuming video content.
This is a great phone for someone who wants the apple logo without compromising phone quality, and their wallets. 🤣❤

I had secondary phone as iPhone 6 till last month. Primary phone is XS Max.
Can’t move back completely to home button iPhone. It is in the past now.

I actually swapped out my iPhone 11 Pro for the SE 2020 and I love it. The battery is my only issue, but it’s not terrible and I make it work. 🖤
My daily driver is Karbonn k150.. works very well.. you can use it too... It almost 2days battery life when once we change
I did it. I just sold my 11 pro max on eBay and got an iPhone SE. I don’t regret it. My only regret was spending so much money on the 11 pro max.

No duh you don't need it. Its the highest end luxury phone. Thats like someone driving a ferrari and then moving down to a camero and saying "Wow you know I don't really NEED a ferrari I guess"
Of course you don't need it. But the moment the iPhone 12 comes around I'm sure you'll switch to the highest end model.
I use my phone for professional camera and video purposes. It’s much more than the common person uses a phone for... so in that way, yeah I’m not common.
I am DONE with the iPhone 12. All of them have an ugly Yellow TINT! I am on my 5th replacement and while this one looks better, it is still yellow. I think I will get an SE
Hey Erica, do you give away or sell any of your old devices? I'm planning to switch my wife to her first iPhone sometime in the next couple weeks. We are literally using a happy tie and cable tie to strap her charging cable to her current phone to get it to charge, so the SE may have released just in time to save us from buying an iPhone 11.
As the SE does not have anything better than your 11Pro, the good news is that you don't have to spend 500 bucks and keep your phone which is better... ;-)
I'm moving from the samsung galaxy s8+ to the iphone SE. I should probably be fine, I only expect to miss the screen size a little and some battery life.
so brave. i did consider it. I love the smaller size but would definitely miss watching movies and stuff on the OLED, etc. I look at the slightly older XR that i had and the screen was horrible when i compare.

Hey Erica, how are you finding the screen on your SE? I know there are going to be differences between the two but that looked like a really warm screen? Especially looking at the difference when the camera viewfinder was open compared to the real life colour? SE looked really yellow compared to the closer to real life tone of the 11plus.
Disliked the video because there's no way someone will trade their iP11 Pro max to iP SE. Unless it's for a swap and additional cash.
The battery is the biggest disappointment for the SE. It just doesn't come close to any of the other iPhones. Lets see how the SE+ does when it comes out. Hopefully its better.

This is interesting to follow, the only downsides for you I think are battery life and screen size. Plus points are the smaller size and lighter than the Pro Max
you talk about the display and say you watch movies on the iPad anyway. the funny thing is that the iPad has a lower resolution than the iPhone SE. ipad pro is under 300 ppi
Challenge? For me and many others this wouldn't be a challenge this would be a luxury.
Sure it would be no problem for me to use iphone se if i would have the crazy good ipad and sony camera like you-then i would'nt care what phone i have :)

Probably the only thing that is going to be hugely different is the display quality. Otherwise you are going to be able to do exactly the same thing as you are before.
I don't believe in 4.7" screen, whatever the specs are. In 2020 we need bigger screens, well most people need bigger screens.
I kinda want to since I used to have iPhones only and went to a Note 8 when it came out and now this 400 dollar iPhone is tempting again to go back .....might give it a try

If you have the iPad and a good slr camera then the iphone se will do your basic phone needs. No need for the pro max unless you have what you said the all in one device. You got it.
i was using the iPhone 11 and went and got the iPhone SE 2020 and it was strange at first as i was use to swiping up and not its through a button but now after a few days its like iv always had 1 :) good luck hope you find it as good as i do :)
If i really wanted to switch to the se id sell the 11 pro and the rx100 buy a moment case with ultrawide and telephoto lenses and get alot of change back
