I did basically the same thing in 1995. But I made the rear section of the shelf fold-able from the tail gate to right in front of the roll bar. Makes it much easier to get to the front to load and unload. And my front section of the shelf goes all the way to the sidewalls. I also took out the rear seat belts and rear seat brackets. This makes it very smooth to slide items in and out. Then I used indoor/outdoor carpet to completely cover. And I used the hardtop bolts to secure “D” rings for hold downs. Nice video. Thanks
@@mannyaldana3337 I have changed up my rear storage. In the summer I run with no top or doors. So I custom build a waterproof carpeted box that I can slide in (after the removeal of the back seat and seat belts) and when I shut the tail gate it locks it into place. I still have the “D” rings and spider nets. Works great and more thief proof. I don’t know how to get a photo to you?
Excellent solution.. we did something similar for our 2 dr JK.. 10cf custom box bolted to the seatbelt anchors.. secure yet easily removable. Access through gate. 2 panels clip into the box for sleeping. Works great.. we're 5-8 and 6-2.. lots of room for our shepherd behind the seats. 😁
This is perfect! I'm waiting to purchase a rear bumper for my 33'' spare and in the meantime, this will be a perfect shelf to store stuff on top of the spare. Thanks!!
Your idea really checks a lot of things off my list regarding yj storage. Thanks for sharing.

Would also be cool to bolt your factory spare tire carrier to the top of the shelf
