I did this EXACT technique to make my own wedding dress-pinned on myself and everything. Thanks for sharing 🥰
The way you are adjusting the patterns is great. For such a tight fitting dress your method works absolutely fine. I am a seamstress/coupeuse and I would not do it anyway else! Big hugs from the Netherlands!
Hi, I am so happy I found you. I am a self taught seamstress. I make and alter garments. I always second guess myself on how I reach my goal when I'm designing something. Watching this video gave me a reassurance that I'm doing it right. I also picked up the tip to use my curve ruler more. I usually free hand when I connect my markings. I see the curve ruler makes a smoother transition. I truly love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing them. God Bless!
These Patternmaking videos have literally saved my life. You are a God send. If you ever find time do a pair of pants or shorts. That would be everything! Best wishes on your success
Will add it to the list for future tuts. Thanks for watching!

wow, your measurements are exactly what mine were in my 20s!
you are amazing thank you
thank u... this really help
i really enjoy your videos. please wherr can i get a dress form like yours?
Hello Daniela!
I love your videos! I'm actually making my first gown ever and this video has helped me feel more confident about making it. But I have a question about the last part. When you tried on the garment and made the last adjustments to one side of the dress, when making the adjustments to the pattern do you divide the adjustments by 4 and make changes like you did the first time?
Thank you in advance!
Very nice
Love your videos...thanks a lot...but i have the same question as Laura, "...in your fitting technique- you pulled the excess fabric to one side. In making the adjustment back on the pattern, wouldn't you want to split the difference in half since you were not altering on each side seam?" Thanks.
Hi Daniela,
your video is very good, you get good skills for draping. Personally i use to work more with paper pattern than draping, but i learn some tricks with time. About waist and hip width, isn't better to dispatch your measurement between all pieces insted of only at side seam ?
for waist measurement i'm agreed to remove 1/4 '' at side only is not to big.
You have to add 5'' to hips width. you can use the 6 seams ( 2 for front princess seam, 2 at side seam & 2 for back princess seam ) and increase each one of 3/8''. shape will remain more soft along than add 1 1/4 in one shot which create side bump on paper pattern.
also once your fitting done, since you pin the fabric only on one side, you can split the over value on both side seam. it will help to keep the grain line more balance.
it was my advice, if it can help in your future design
Philippe Lachance This is exactly what I was going to suggest, when there is a big discrepancy between measurements then it should definitely be split across all of the seams so it follows the body flow more closely.
I guess this is something that comes naturally when you are more used to drafting custom blocks from scratch on paper, because you automatically distribute the measurements across centre front, side front, side back & centre back.
I love the confidence and sense of freedom draping can instill because it's so immediately visual, a combination of the knowledge of both methods really allows you to trust yourself more when designing & pattern cutting :)
doesn't it depend on where the other seams sit on the body? In this case, if the princess seam - the front panel in this case - ends up just right and the side seam is the wrong fit it doesn't make sense to divide the difference? if it's not a big difference it's probably no important... I don't know, I'm just guesing :)
wow! I can't stop watching all the videos. Wish you were my sister
:

Hello Daniela, great videos. I have a question when o transferred the first pattern piece to the paper, you measured 1' why is this? I'm a bit confused here. Thank you
