Thanks for posting an update on this one. The owner is Hull. Hull has a full mall portfolio and also owns Prince of Orange. There is an entire group of mall UA-cam folks that probably messaged you that love piling on Hull for making their malls look very plain with carpet tiles, brown walls and contractor grade lighting. Most likely all of those people do not live in towns like Sumter and Orangeburg. These are negative UA-cam folks that don’t look at the fact that the mall owner doesn’t have an unlimited budget and there is zero reason to make a mall fancy and extravagant in towns like Sumter and Orangeburg. The local folks don’t need high end stores, they need a nice clean mall with a good range of stores. In many cases, if Hull didn’t own these malls, the malls would be closed or rotting away like Signal Hill or Pennrose. So many people love being negative and not looking at the fact that a nice clean mall is better than no mall. Also, I would love to know if these negative folks have a career history as mall general managers or commercial property owners… most likely no… 😂😂😂 Opinions are free, but I doubt any of these UA-cam commenters that bash Hull are going to open up their checkbook and buy these malls and change them into fancy places with amazing breathtaking retail experiences… oh, what checkbook? 😂😂😂
That mall is a shell of what it onnce was. Theyve lost Service Merchandise, Chick fila, Camelot music, Aladins castle, Radio Shack, KB toys, Walden books, Corn Dog 7, Orange Julius, Sears and many more over the years. It was called Jessamine mall when it opened. I was there the day it opened. They also had a cool little fountain. There's a LOT more stores closed than you think, theyve been walled off. The parking lot has never been repaved.
You’re in my town!! That’s what used to be the Jessamine mall. It’s shit now. Sumter has so much crime and crazy shootings! They used to have a chick fil a.
Nate, just to add another comment for the folks that are negative on these Hull malls… Let’s compare Sumter mall (Hull) to Dutch Square (not Hull). One mall has no restaurants in the court, a majority of vacant stores with open view glass fronts showing random trash and junk left behind and all the other negative aspects of a mall with high vacancy, mentally distressed folks sitting and walking around the mall talking to themselves and randomly yelling and such a high crime rate that the police have put temporary solar cameras with blue beacons all over the parking lot. The other mall is Sumter mall. I’ll take Sumter mall all day and night. If people want fancy retail, they can jump in the car and drive over to Columbiana Mall or up to South Park and make a day trip out of it. What is a good mall and a bad mall is sometimes just point of view… and then there are facts. 😂 Thanks again for posting this mall. It’s good to see it’s doing well and there for the community.
Glad to see any mall business providing full and part time paychecks for families.
