I think if magic would be real, there would be many moms and dads who would happily use forbidden magic to save their children.

Which is not to say, however, that just any loving parent would resort to torture, much less to an experimental procedure that is as likely to end the whole world as it is to spare one condemned life. With enough desperation, I think any loving parent can become obsessed.

Alexius is exactly the kind of villain I like, someone who was once a good person but went way too far. I'm in the middle of the bad Future right now. I wish we could save Felix, but the Wardens conveniently disappeared... Corypheus really thought it out. He approached desperate people (Alexius, Clarel, Samson, Lucius) and fed them lies until he got what he wanted.
That's why I'm sparing Loghain in my main canon. He's really not a bad guy, he just does bad things to protect what he cares about. King Cailan was an idiot blinded by glory, and Loghain knew that if he flanked the Darkspawn during the Battle of Ostagar, they would have lost more soldiers...
Alexius was one of my favorite villains. I loved how he ranted and raved about the Elder One being supreme but the facade dropped and the real motive came to light during the confrontation at Redcliffe: he loved his son and wanted to save him from a cruel death.
This theme is intense! So much atmosphere to it! Alexius gave up so much just to save his son, even the entire world just to stop him from dying. Sad stuff.
Not only is it a fantastic score for a boss fight, showcasing his broken personality and choices, but it has the undertone of "Oh shit, somethings coming we /need/ to get out of here!"
I can never NOT choose the Mages route anymore. I was disheartened when I had to kill Alistair's mum Fiona at Haven. As much as I like Ser Barris, I just can't do it.
Gereon Alexus is my favorite minor character in the franchise. In my top five favorite all around characters too. I love his story. I love his demeanor. He is incredibly memorable to me. Solas right now is my top favorite, but the more I listen to this, I understand his profound despair, he gets bumped up. God Picking between Ser Barris and this storyline is the most painful decision. Ser Barris is awesome (I hope I am remembering his name right... lol, Alexius is a bit easier to remember)
I really enjoyed the mage plot-line, more-so than the Templars, but I really love Calpernia and I've enjoyed doing her side-plot the last two times I've played.
I swear to god...This theme is the reason why I sided with the Mages...If not..Would of let them to become mindless slaves in Redcliffe to the Venatorri.
Always sided the mages and I always will do it, because extremes never end well, they want to live in harmony and free helping people with their magic, and I'm sure they can even regulate themselves, I think they don't want any abuse of power, if there is power of any kind there is a chance of corruption, and these are the ones who must be punished, not all of them.
Alexius isn't just attached to his son--he's OBSESSED. Beware the reach of a parent's grief.

The strings really pull you in every time they float in, this is one of the best pieces in the soundtrack in my opinion.

Truth Alexius was a very good villain, i think he would have made a better main villain than Corypheus :)
He and Loghain are my favorite villains precisely because they fit the fallen hero trope so well.

I like how this theme plays when you fight the High Dragon in Crestwood.
