Seems to me that the same internal shenanigans at the U.S. Mint that took place with the production of the 5 known 1913 Liberty Head Nickels may have taken place with this coin as well. Thanks for sharing J&B. See ya in the next one.
The coin is a "special production " for special client. And also hard to believe someone found it in a roll coin. Thank you Ms B and Mrs J for great video. Stay safe and healthy and see you tonight
How can a coin that could’ve been intentionally struck on wrong planchet be considered an error vs illegal if not preauthorized while, if memory correct, an aluminum coin could be confiscated or mechanical doubling not an error since its accidental and during minting process? So confusing lol
It's a special coin someone at the mint made for fun and wasn't supposed to get outside of the mint. No I'm not the POLLOCK Mr. J mention in the video, 😁. Thanks for sharing this story.
Definitely not an error coin but a great coin minted for someone special. Once in a while I'd say someone at the mint gets an idea and go's with it.1905 INDIAN HEAD GOLD. Now that's an idea🖒🤔
i do think it is an error. the reason if the person running the press was trying to meet a schedule/quota it is plausible that a few gold blanks could be over looked in the machines hopper after the pressing was done. So before anyone double check they move on to the next work order, change dyes and dump a bunch of copper blanks on top of the forgotten gold ones.
I think this coin is a special/ intentional print. Someone meant for this to happen. Were any found in circulation? Probably not. Thanks for sharing J.
Very cool coin! I feel either it was minted to hand out to special collectors like you said, or someone was trying to make themselves some extra cash. 👍
What is a 'pattern coin'? Don't know that I've heard that term before... Now I've got a new coin to add to my bucket list of what I want to dig that'll never happen. ;-) In a way, it's somewhat comforting that the ineptitude of the mint is not a new thing. Given that the story of the 1913 V-nickel is of a mint employee striking them & giving them to his daughter to take home and her spending some on ice cream on the way, it wouldn't be a stretch if something similar happened here.
There’s no WAY those coins were stuck in error. Just getting the gold planchet into the press would be a set of circumstances that would be along the odds of getting bit by a shark, struck by lighting, and winning the lottery ON THE SAME DAY. That doesn’t make it any less cool, though!
I think an employee of the mint did it on purpose it is hard to believe that the employee dose not know the difference of the look of copper and gold. Just saying
No, I don't consider it an error. Call it a special production piece if you want. Another coin sneaking out of a secure mint. It is supposed to be secure, right?
I have a 1905 Indian head penny that is either nickel or silver on the front and red copper on the back. The front is almost mirror like and I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the internet but I’m sure it is rare. Anyone ever here of this?
Definitely a Inside, ONLY 5 in gold minted like that let's get real, speaking of quotes like they say is not what you know it's who you know priced @ 200+K SHEESH

I bought a few Indian heads yesterday one was a very clean 1905 .I can't wait to get home and weight it!
That's an exceptional coin. Had to be intentionally altered. Thanks J and B!
I have a new thought about error coins, would really enjoy picking someone's mind about how errors are handled at the mint.
Very interesting! Maybe mint employees were trying to sneak gold out as pennies some how. Just another thought. Thanks for the video and info J&B!

I think it is a “Special Production” piece. Not only the gold but the strike is awesome.

Ty for the info as always jb coins.
Someone at the mint made it and this is why we coin hunt
I think it’s beautiful! I also think I believe Pollack.
, by the way still loving the intro best intro on UA-cam
An error like this seems very intentional, but wow if you could get your hands on this one.

Or struck on cent planchet in hopes of smuggling out the valuable gold . Just a thought .

Wow didn’t know that I will keep a eye on it thank you JNB

This is awesome info especially because I never knew that it was a Indian head penny struck in gold
Hmmm my guess would be an intentional error - the worker was probably singing an 1870s one hit wonder and decided to have a little fun 😀

Wow I had no idea that existed. Cool video
I think there's a strong possibility that it's not an error coin. Would be nice to know for sure.
My opinion is production piece if buyer it was a huge one thank you for the video I'll be checking
🎉🎉🎉🎉 bro i have a 1905 kipper one down in the Caribbean in st Lucia
Not an error! 👍👍👍
i like the Indian head penny :)

I think it's a special production coin
Mr JB I just find out a 1863 4.3 gr indian head penny they have any value thanks

Thanks J&B i have that coin 1900

No question in my mind this is not an error. It was done on purpose for one of those meant workers to sell and make himself some extra money.
How do I get it graded
My kinda "error." Sadly, none of my 1905 Indian Head Cents look or weigh like that ✌️❤️🦅

I have a 1865 Indian head weight3.1 fancy 5 no mintmark Gouged on front dlbon America L initial at bottom of headdress
I would love to believe that that is an error because then it would be possible to find one. But I’m just not so sure
I think it was a special minting and someone profited from it. But there’s no one around now to verify that. 🤭
I think it was done deliberately either way love to have one
It's worth that money.
You can bet that those gold coins landed in the hands of relatives of the people working in the mint
Someone at the mint made these on purpose and there are only a few made.
I would think it would be intentionally made.
I found one hunting rolls I have to get it certified
Probably done on purpose, but you can never forgo a mistake by a govt worker.
I believe all of those air coins are done on purpose, coins like this you can’t possibly mistake a gold planchet for a copper
I have a 1904 Indian Head Wheat one cent penny how much could that be worth?
.30
🤔🤔 mistake?? I think not 😂
I feel it was a "special minting" for special "friends" but ya never know for sure.

Yeah it was definitely an inside job. If I had the chance to do it I would. you would've too. 🤑
Not sure what I would call it. Since there is more than one, it seems more deliberate than an error..just saying..
What about 1903? The value ?
I've got 3 of these
I think this is a one-off.
1904 Cuánto es el Valor Gracias

Where he found it was somebody in the mint sold it to him that’s where I found it. You can bet your bottom dollar on that.
Don’t hold your breath
