Three years ago my life changed. I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment caused insomnia. One night at about 2am as I was sitting in my comfy chair surfing the internet I stumbled across Fruity Knitting. My mother and grandmother had been fans of various "home arts" and as an only child I picked up a few things, including some knitting skills. As I started watching your videos, I was able to relax. I took up knitting to keep me occupied during the many hours in chairs resting from treatment or just fatigue. I am in remission today, though the odds are very high the cancer will return. I will use your videos and knitting to help me through the challenge. Of course I will continue my contribution. Do what you need to do and keep the faith - your army will do what it can to help you.
My sister was diagnosed with cancer last June, she fought it and she is cancer free. Always fight, always have hope, take things day by day. God bless you!

I can clearly see an army of knitters lining the hilly paths of Wales as a miraculously healed Andrew walks past them smiling and waving. They all wear the most delicious sweaters, mittens and scarves and like me are glad they didn’t have to worry about covid travel restrictions or expensive plane tickets to get there, all they had to do was shut their eyes and pray.
Petitioning our Heavenly Father for your comfort, peace, and complete healing. You have become such treasures to us all!

As a long time viewer, let me say...I watched many an episode with Stage 3 cancer. Then Stage 4 cancer. I would fall asleep watching something happy. Later I would have to scroll back to where I remembered. I am 5’8” and dropped to 100 pounds. I could not hold my head up at night. I could no longer hold small needles so started knitting chunky scarfs. DR said to get my affairs in order, especially guardianship of my son. 5% chance of making it through the year. I have been cancer free for TWO years now. Thank you for being my piece of happiness when I was so sick. You both kept me company in the middle of the night when I was supposed to be sleeping. I really felt it was important to have something happy on while I dozed in and out. I wish some of your spectacular knitting skills rubbed off on my, but I tend to knit slowly and not so fancy. XO

Dear Cape Codder, I am reading this as Andrew and Andrea announced Andrew’s diagnosis, but more than a year later. Cancer is such an insidious and awful disease. We never know from the point of diagnosis what the story of our journey with this illness will be or how our story ends. I am thrilled for your good health and I hope it continues! You came so close to your end but you fought back and thrived. I am a cancer survivor and I almost lost my life to a broken neck. Every day I wake up is a blessing and I am even grateful for any pain I feel because it reminds me I am alive! Keep doing what you are doing because it is working! God bless you and keep well! Andrew and Andrea, I found you during a most difficult year, I was diagnosed in 2019 with Ovarian cancer while helping my father during his chemo/immunology treatments for his stage iv. You can imagine the stress...but you were there to brighten my days. Surround yourself with positive thoughts, activities that you love and positive people. I believe in the power of prayer, and in miracles. Today my father and I are cancer free. I pray for you, for your family, and for your medical team.
You will heal!!! Because you smile with your soul, because you have a noble heart, because life has something greater waiting for you, and because through it all, you shine brightly!!

My grandmother was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in the early 80’s. She died maybe 20 years later in her late 70’s. She managed to exceed the “average” lifespan for a healthy female. This isn’t to give false hope, she had her challenges. But accepting life might look different from now on makes all the difference. Change is hard, but not impossible, and a happy life looks different for everyone. My grandparents had a very happy marriage, my grandmother needed help and my grandfather loved being needed. ❤️
When I say my daily prayer I always bring up an image of each person in turn. For your turn Andrew and Andrea, the image will be the two of you on the sofa: Andrea, examining Andrew’s latest WiP “Yes, well done Andrew, your stitches are lovely and even”. I don’t think it was a coincidence that I became a patron after my cancer diagnosis in August. Your videos have been such a serene comfort for me during my recovery from surgery and now during radiation therapy. So not a coincidence that you have helped me and I have helped you by becoming a patron. God works in serendipitous ways! Sending loads of healing energy to you both! ❤️❤️❤️
You are so right about the chances that Andrew will do well. A friend who found himself in a similar situation to Andrew’s was feeling glum when a friend came to visit him. She said “You’re thinking about the statistical chances of survival, aren’t you.” And he said “Yep, 5% at the end of 12 months, which may as well be zero.” She said “That’s where you’re wrong. Statistics aren’t telling your story, because statistically, you shouldn’t have cancer in the first place. You’re fit, a healthy weight, have never smoked, have a good family and everything else that should mean that you are extremely unlikely to get cancer at your age. So forget the statistics and concentrate on all the things that contribute to recovery.” She told him to see if he could make 5 people laugh every day. Four years on he is still fine (and still making people laugh). Andrew and Andrea, you have brought us so many gifts and I hope you know how much you are loved.

Andrea, So strange how this came up tonight on my feed. I really miss Andrew and want to let you know how I often think of you and Madeline .
You where such a huge inspiration to me during the first lockdown and really inspired me to knit more than just hats.
I lost my son Nathan and a beloved brother Grahame within a year of each other so understand a bit of of your grieving process.
My heart just breaks for you as you continue through this time of loss.
I too lived away from my family and know how difficult this can be .
Please know that I think of you so of you both so much and also thank you for what you bring to the knitting community.

The reason why I kept watching you wasn't actually the knitting content. Most of all it was the possitivity and visible love between you two that kept me attracted. All things are possible with God - of this I am certain. Andrew, I'm praying for your complete healing and restoration of health, as well as hope, comfort, strength and peace. Andrea and Madeline ( I have a Madeline too!), I'm praying for courage, strength, peace and hope. I'm praying against anything that would come in to discourage, darken, undermine or hinder your healing and restoration, or steal hope or courage. I retired a year ago as an Oncology nurse. I worked the last 35 years in Radiation Oncology. I will be holding you in my heart and prayers. Take one day at a time. When you have a not great day remember that doesn't mean that the rest of the days will be that way. Get out in the outdoors, watch funny movies and always love.
Dear Andrew and Andrea, What incredibly sad news to hear. I have only been an occasional viewer of your podcast, but have enjoyed every bit of it, and will happily be a patron. However, I have another suggestion as well. We, as your viewers, are saddened that you will have to face anxiety resulting from financial insecurity while having to adapt to the changes to your lifestyle and focusing on Andrew's health. It seems that a gofundme campaign might be a good idea in the sense that it will provide some margin of support beyond the monthly subscriptions, and hopefully bring some peace of mind with regards to money matters. This will help us to do our bit in a very small way.

This brought me many flashbacks, the feeling that that news hits you like a speeding train, you didn't see coming. I'm glad you have each other and a warm community. It will be quite a fight and the only thing I can say; little steps, humour and be kind to yourselves. A lot will happen. It took a lot to even announce it. So brave.

My little princess fights against a very rare leukemia, only 12 people on the entire world had this leukemia. My Daughter is the miracle, She is Alive! Keep fighting, always believe! A big hug😘❤️

As a kidney cancer survivor for 13 years, I am holding the picture of you, Andrew, in perfect health in my heart and my prayers. I cried with you both through this video as I understand the fear, stress, and challenge that cancer brings to your life. I have to say, though, that I am grateful for what cancer brought to me on the levels of truly being grateful, of slowing down to enjoy and live in the moment, of reducing the stress and worry in my life-especially of the small stuff, and for the immense community of friends and family who came forward to support us through that journey. From what I have read in the comments here, we are all part of that community, and as one of those members, I encourage you to take time to do what you need to do. Rest, bake bread, lie on the grass and watch the clouds go by, knit, do whatever brings you joy. The Fruity Knitting community is here, holding you, Andrea, and Madeline, and will continue to be here regardless of how much content you produce, or how often you produce it. Just heard your news, my son is just in remission after going through a year of immuno therapy. He had two tumors. Surgery was not an opption. Please ask your doctor about this. It worked for him it may work for you. Prayers for you and your family.

I am a 30 year bone cancer survivor and they gave me 6 months to live back then but I am still here.... and you are right to have hope and see what you can find, my treatment was an experimental one .... I found this video yesterday and keep crying in frustration. I loved you since beginning when I saw Andrea talking while staying in that lovely window, then I discovered your beautiful family. My husband stopped sweeping when I started your episode this morning and said "Oh shit, he's sick" and we were both so sad to hear this news. You have so many episodes that we can all watch (or rewatch) while you settle in and find your new normal. We will all be here, just focus on you. I know because my husband is also fighting an incurable cancer. After the initial shock comes a choice. To give in or to live. We chose to live & have done & lived alot together for almost 3.5yrs. This is one of the best videos as it is real. My boyfriend had cancer and the emotions that go with it is something I felt. Sometimes when one has cancer, one feels alone and we assume everyone on social media is having a better time but it is not real. I like videos about wellbeing and working with changes, this is real life.
Episode 108 was indeed my favorite so far. You just keep getting better and better! I hope that helps you keep your spirits up during this uncertain time. You are being lifted up in prayer. God still works miracles and cares for people more than we can appreciate. My wife had a similar experience a couple of years ago. Through the prayers of our church family and the skills of the radiation oncologists @ Mayo Clinic, she is doing well. May God give you peace and confidence in His care.
I love your show and the news is devastating. I hope that you can explore other options. After receiving a cancer diagnosis years ago, I hit the medical library hard. I read a lot about my specific tumor, most of which has been forgotten, but one sentence remained with me, "even in the worst prognoses there are survivors". Holding your family in my heart.

I KNOW what you, or I should say, Andrea, is going through right now. Our daughter was diagnosed with an "inoperable" brain tumor on her brain stem when she was 24 years old. She was given only 2-5 months to live, but she WAS operated on at Barrow's Neurological Institute in Arizona and she lived for over five years. Let me say that I was SO happy to hear you ask for our prayers. You have already been a WONDERFUL witness to your faith, which is a GREAT result of a HORRIBLE circumstance. We will continue to pray for comfort, strength and confidence in Him for your family and of course, for a miracle for Andrew.
I'm not a regular viewer, but the moments I tune into the show I really enjoy it. I love the indept discussion of knitting and am really happy that I stumbled upon your first podcast a couple of years ago.
I mostly hope that you will keep finding the joy in everyday living no matter what life throws at you. It's what I hope for everyone. Cherish the good moments from the past and plan for a good future, but live now and enjoy the good moments. :) good luck

I am crying with you. You both are amazing people. For me, seeing Andrea’s knitting is enough together with her tutorials. So sorry to hear these bad news.
I am a born again Christian and I believe that Christ can heal the body as well as the spirt. I will walk in faith , even when I cannot see ,is one of my favorite verses in the bible. Stay positive and may God have his hand upon you Andrew, as well as your family!

we understand your grief about this announcement - it was hard for me to tell my children re my diagnosis - to tell 50,000 more than mine is extraordinary. we admire your bravery and we pray for joy and gratitude to multiply! I stumbled on your program four years ago, my diagnosis was four years ago. Be safe, be strong - love you.
As a brain injury survivor (and patron) myself, I completely agree than research into brain conditions is underfunded. Prayers to you both. Please just take one day at a time and quite rightly focus on Andrew’s health. I am inherently also a workaholic and have had to learn to listen to my body and if I need the rest, to take it. Take care and thinking of you both during a incredibly difficult time. If it’s any comfort, being type A is probably a good thing as it makes you fighters. My husband would claim I was belligerent, but I think being strong minded is one of the reasons I am still here. Big hugs to Andrea too as these things are tough on spouses.

You two are the embodiment of graciousness in sharing such difficult news with us, your adoring fans. Meeting you both at Shetland Wool Week 2018 was certainly a high point for me. It is apparent that you both strive for quality of life (and you have certainly enhanced it for all of us via Fruity Knitting). Towards that end, and speaking as an experienced palliative medicine nurse practitioner, please investigate palliative care while you are walking this new path. It will aim to maximize quality of life for Andrew, as well as for Andrea, Madelaine, and all those closest to you. You have my best wishes and prayers. Godspeed.
