Draco Malfoy in books/movies 1-5 is a very different from Draco Malfoy in HBP. A few things I noticed about this scene: - He wears a very formal outfit for a train ride going to school - He carries a briefcase - Crabbe and Goyle are not sitting with him (they are at the table across the isle) I think the costume choice and the briefcase are meant to both show he has grown up, and more importantly give the impression that he has a job to do (which he does). The shot where he walks along the platform gives off a very business-like vibe with both his clothes and briefcase and this was a nice job on the filmmakers' part to let the audience know that he is on a mission. His childhood and days of fun and games are over, now he is stuck with the mission from Voldemort, which has forced him to grow up faster than he should have to. Additionally, this might just be because there's not enough seats at one table, but I think the fact that Crabbe and Goyle are sitting farther away and do not interact with him have significance. Throughout the movie series they were Draco's sidekicks and were associated with bullying other students. Now those days of bullying other students seems so unimportant to him compared to what he now has to face and having Draco sit with other people signifies that he has moved onto hanging out with other people (like Death Eaters) and therefore has moved onto other things. (I'm not saying Draco doesn't hang out with Crabbe and Goyle anymore, I'm just saying its symbolic) I could be completely wrong, but its just my interpretation. :)
DuckyNatalie You nailed it with the part about the costume choice and the briefcase, although I personally interpreted the part about Crabbe and Goyle a bit differently. Bear in mind that this scene is still in the aftermath of the Malfoys’ fall from grace, when they (especially Lucius) were very much disliked - if not outright hated - by both sides of the war. Prior to this point, Draco’s family background and his father’s connections within the Ministry of Magic afforded him more than enough power and prestige to command respect from his fellow students, especially Crabbe and Goyle, who were Draco’s two main lackeys and by all accounts only followed him for the aforementioned reasons. When Lucius was imprisoned, however, not only did all of that power and prestige go up in smoke, but Voldemort now held Lucius in utter contempt, while Draco was given a mission that by all accounts would have resulted in him being equally screwed over no matter what. As a result, the entire foundation of Draco’s relationship with Crabbe and Goyle was completely destroyed, culminating in a quote from Crabbe in Deathly Hallows where he basically tells Draco to piss off.++ Based on all of that, Crabbe and Goyle’s relative isolation from Draco in this scene could also come across as them already starting to lose respect for Draco and distance themselves from him now that what drew them to Draco’s side in the first place is gone. ++ _“I don’t take your orders no more,_ *Draco*_. @@KilluaZoldyck-qx9jf Disagreed. The "ugly" colours perfectly fits the dark tone of these films. You wouldn't see the beauty in it since you're nothing but an idiot.
Is a shame Malfoy wasn't a badass in all other films like in this one; that's possibly one of main disagreements with JK Rowling; I wouldn't have written him pathetic as she did in the first 5 films but a badass, through and through
Rowling wrote the original books, not the movies, although that’s beside the point. Bear in mind that, in the previous 5 books/films, Draco had a very comfortable life, parents who were insanely wealthy and were highly-respected members of wizarding society, and a father who could even call in favors from the Minister for Magic himself. Hence, there was never any serious need for Draco to become a badass per se, so for the most part he was content to live his own life and milk his family’s wealth and status for all it was worth (which was a lot) without really bothering to become a “badass”. In HBP, however, Draco’s situation was completely different; not only did the Malfoys’ fall from grace strip Draco of the prestige that he once exploited to the max, but Lucius’ imprisonment in Azkaban forced Draco to step up and be the man of the house. On top of that, Voldemort had essentially pressed Draco into service as a Death Eater and ordered him to kill Dumbledore (knowing that Draco wouldn’t stand a chance of doing so, thus allowing Voldemort to indirectly punish Lucius for the latter’s past failures), which Draco knew ran the risk of him and his entire family being severely harmed and possibly even killed if he screwed up in any conceivable way. All of this pushed Draco so far out of his comfort zone that he had to become more badass in order to protect himself and his family.
i disagree respectfully; draco's sudden wake-up call into life where he has to protect himself without his father is really rash and gives a sharp tug into a cool new lifestyle from draco, one where we see more complex emotions from him that give way to why he was such a sissy and a brat in the first five books/films. but yeah for some reason in the films he snivels a lot more, like he's always a point away from crying and i think that's just the films trying to exaggerate draco's typical villain persona. all of the harry potter characters rigidly follow one archetype and emphasizing it in the films is what makes it so strange, so memorable and different to us watchers
After all the times that Harry humiliated Malfoy, this seemed only just. It was satisfying to see the adversary win at least one, single time. Apart from this instance, Harry's victories over Malfoy were always too easy. No menace that way.
in addition, not to be that person but in the books draco isn't angry or resentful like this; he's still grinning like a little kid at his triumph. the films paint him as more of an enemy than they mean to

@capt truth book is way better than movies, now I am not saying movies are bad but it's impossible to put all scenes in movie but in books there are just so many precious scenes that we would have loved to see,... Anyway it's about the way you see things, innit?
In the book Draco has his head in Pansy's lap while she's stroking his hair and fawning all over him bragging about becoming a Death Eater. Wonder why it wasn't added in the film 🤔
honestly if you think about it, what draco did was pretty horrifying. I would be terrified if I was Harry. If Harry wasn't found by Luna (or Tonks in the books) by sheer luck, who knows how long he would have stayed underneath, unable to move or even speak. Completely trapped and hidden with no way of getting out...
he was literally through the hallway, even if Luna didn't saw the powder, she would had stumble on him, same for any other people who would had walk in the train.

@capt truth book is way better than movies, now I am not saying movies are bad but it's impossible to put all scenes in movie but in books there are just so many precious scenes that we would have loved to see,...
Anyway it's about the way you see things, innit?
@capt truth yeah I agree with you on this point ,Luna is really better for this scene ,but to say entire book was stupid is bit much...
@capt truth Lmao no book forever
I Wouldn't Expect Draco To Say "Mummy"
One of the best HP films ever made. This movie was the most faithful one. Best Hp movie imo. Best story and best ending. Yes, I'm right. Kaash na ho!
Kaash kya na ho?
I like how Harry gets him back for this. Sectum Sempra!
Should have aimed for his balls instead. No way of fixing those :D
End of Malfoy line :)
It seems impossible to get onto a rack under such a cloak.
Satoshi Aoyama it's a world full of magic. everything's possible.
Draco had the chance to get one of the rarest items of all time and what did he do? He returned it safely to Harry what good sport
0:38 BLAISE TALKS???
Draco- whats that
Draco- Blaise?
Blaise- I dunno
Congratulations to Scarlett Bryne (Pansy's actress) who had a baby today
Nora from tvd
Awewww
In the books it was Toni’s that performed the spell Luna did
Tonks*
In the book Draco has his head in Pansy's lap while she's stroking his hair and fawning all over him bragging about becoming a Death Eater. Wonder why it wasn't added in the film 🤔
2:23 Oh yeah 🥵❤️
How is anyone noticing Zabini?
Dude, how do they all say that spell so fast 😂
honestly if you think about it, what draco did was pretty horrifying.
Harry Finally learns not to always eavesdrop on people
Matthew Quach yeah! Eventhough they're in train it was still Draco's private conversation with Pansy and Zabini.
@Nice green shit I know right. I'm always going to be on Harry's side.
What other time did Harry eavesdrop?
You guys have to realize that Harry only eavesdropped on them because he had a feeling that Draco was involved in something dark. Which in the end Harry was actually right about Draco.
Padme Sole exactly
2:31 poor Harry

I'm honestly surprised how nobody has talked about how nobody has talked about how the Polar Express' chugging sound is used for 5972 when it pulls into the station at 1:26.
2:00 Draco entered hitman mode.
